If you liked "Clerks" ...
pryzfytr27 May 2014
If you liked "Clerks", you'll go for this low-budget independent film (I'm certain that writer/director Larry Longstreth is cringing at that comparison if he reads these reviews!) I resisted seeing it at first (I'm likely a generation - or more - older than the target audience) but when I did I was captivated from the start. There are some genuine Coca-Cola-out-the-nose funny parts (be careful when you sip!), besides an actual interesting story.

The quality of the acting bests most "Lifetime" movies, as well. You'll get no spoilers, nor a plot outline, from me. I will say that if you are just on either side of thirty, viewing is mandatory! Older viewers who remember that age (fondly or not) may also empathize with "leading man" Ben (played by Longstreth.)

Anyone with a wicked sense of humor will certainly get a few side-aches!

There is much swearing(too much for me, although it likely represents how people of that age actually speak!) so little ones should perhaps watch Shrek XXXVIII instead.

New generation of comedy
wineiv21 November 2011
My 19 year old brought it home to watch with friends. I joined and was shocked at how funny it was. The movie isn't kid friendly but hit home for me, my teen and her friends. I've told all my co-workers to get it at blockbuster asap. A couple have and now we quote it around the work place. If you like office space, clerks or just hate pop culture you'll love this. As an older woman I was able to watch it and enjoy the film making fun of the younger people. The pink shirts and gender bending pants. It's refreshing to see this and think all hope is not lost for my daughters generation. My husband loved the parts making fun of MMA fighting and the father figure's lecture to his son. Overall our entire family was shocked at how good this was. It is clearly not a big budget film but it's still good. We look forward to whatever this guy makes next. 10 out of 10 for us.

What color is the blue square

Warning: Spoilers
This is a humorous "coming of age" story about Ben Baker (Larry Longstreth). Ben drinks, smokes pot and works at a video game store. He is an adult living as a teen, playing D &D. Ben is smart, but an underachiever. His girlfriend Donna (Marisa Zakaria) is bored with his ways and leaves. Ben remakes himself to get her back, becoming the type of guy he hates. He has trouble adjusting, not knowing if he would be happier selling out and conforming to what Donna wants him to be, or just being himself without Donna. The movie symbolically shows Ben's dilemma with the blue square question.

I loved the metaphor of the blue square. The dialouge was 5 stars. The plot maintained my interest. The acting was...well I think they all got stoned and played themselves. It is a story for those of us who grew up late.

Frequent f-bombs, off screen sex, no nudity. Entertaining and clever like a good indie.
