A pretty good one!

The 11th season of "Death in Paradise" has been a pretty enjoyable so far. I was looking forward to this episode, because a lot of people have said it to be the best of the season. Personally, I found this entry to be pretty good, but not as good as the previous one.

Let's start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values of this episode are great. The episode looks good and the music fits the beautiful scenery. The acting's solid for the most part, except for Ben Starr, who tries to be charismatic, but it doesn't always work (though he is not bad). Josephine Jobert and all of the other regulars continue to be lovely in their roles. Out of the guest stars William Gaminara gives a very good, endeering performance.

. The mystery is very compelling. There are some interesting characters and the murder mystery has good twists and turns. At times, this story got surprisingly deep. The subplot with Florence deciding to accept the job to become an undercover agent was very-well done.

But...

. I was quite disappointed by the solution to the mystery. Even though the motive for the murder was buyable, the identity of the killer (Chris) was not a surprise in any way. The whole way how the solution was handled, felt kind of dull and predictable for me.

Overall, very good, but not great.

8/10 HK.

Episode 11.3

Zach Ogilvy, an IT tycoon goes skydiving with some of his colleagues.

The others land safely but not Zach. His dead body is found on a tree but it was not due to the landing or a mishap in mid air. He was stabbed.

DI Parker sees footage taken of Zack jumping off the plane so just how and when did the murder take place?

Parker also finds that Zach was bit of an ogre. No one liked him, he was a bully, his company had a culture of making people work long hours.

It was an entertaining episode but I did think that one person was a suspect very much from the off. The crime scene remark very much had them nailed.

I would loved to have seen DI Parker go skydiving.

"Officer Marlon Pryce is that the stations trash can?"

Warning: Spoilers
Wannabe Mark Zuckerberg Zachary Ogilvy, desperate to promote his online social media enterprise, has brought a group to Saint Marie, for a 'Team Building Exercise'.

This involved pressurising the company 'Team' into a skydiving endeavour, tragically it ends in one of the 'Team' being found murdered.

Zachary Ogilvy is an atypical entrepreneur desperate, to be the 'Next Big Thing in Social Media' at any cost to, absolutely anyone with the temerity to stand in his way.

This breeds hate and mistrust amongst the, corporate machinations and double dealings.

The joint police operation involving Jamaica and Saint Marie is moving on apace, with DS Florence Cassell being offered the position of the undercover officer. It's likely to be an onerous and demanding assignment, that will test her courage, knowledge, perspicacity, and strength of character. The Commissioner and DI Parker, will sorely miss her expertise, but have every confidence in her abilities to undertake the case.

Is DS Florence Cassell exhibiting a degree of cold feet over her participation, or are ghosts of a past case haunting her being and disturbing her equanimity?

A fantastic episode.

A skydiver is killed in bizarre circumstances, and DS Cassell has a big decision to make.

There has definitely been a switch up, the tone is altogether different, no silliness here at all, this was quite series, but excellent, for me this was the best episode of the series so far. The mystery itself was a cracker, but all of the strands were interesting.

The idea of Buddy Base was a good one, it seems an eternity since we last had a new social media platform, the main ones have dominated for so long.

Josephine Jobert has been hard to avoid in recent times, she's been everywhere, and for good reason, there seems an almost inevitability about her moving on. I thought the scenes between Florence and The Commissioner were wonderful, great that the show has a rich history to draw on. I like that there's a stoeh arc running through.

Nice to see William Gaminara, such a good actor. Ben Starr was excellent also.

I can't help but feel that the writer was having a bit of a pop at Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of the new platform was definitely a bit strange.

Some real depth here, this was a cracker, 9/10.

I still wonder about Madeleine Dumas
safenoe12 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad episode of Death in Paradise, although kind of far-fetched with planes making a double landing so the pilot could do the nasty deed.

Unfortunately, in episode 4 of this season we see the departure (again) of Josephine Jobert. Does this mean Aude Legastelois (DS Madeleine Dumas) will return after being written out after only 10 episodes (2 in season 8, the whole of season 9)? I don't think Aude has made any public statement on her departure at the end of season 9.

I like Death in Paradise, although I understand behind the scenes tensions run high because of the unbearably hot weather in real life.

An entertaining hour
ak202021 January 2022
Yet again, this series has produced an nice, entertaining hour. Without divulging anything as a spoiler, I imagine most of those watching it will guess "whodunnit" as I did, (and how it was done, but not the why) well before Nevil does.

Warning: Spoilers
Isn't the show so much better without the overly silly subplot. I cringe when looking back at some of the 'hilarious antics' that Dwayne used to get up to in early episodes.

Both the plots worked well here for me, it was nice to see the lovely Lucy Griffiths (Maid Marion in the BBC's early 00's Robin Hood) in the main one, with the ongoing plot involving Florence being deceptively engaging too.

I hope she isn't leaving full-time, but all signs point in that direction.

Another good episode from the oddly shorter 11th series.

Not
scooterbreeze30 September 2022
This show has been boring for the last several episodes. The main characters can act, but the writing is not very good. Murder mysteries should be suspenseful or try to keep the audience guessing. It hasn't been believable since the last season or two.

The commissioner has been portrayed for a long time as one dimensional. He doesn't like the detective and that's all we see or hear when the two of them interact. It's supposed to be funny but it comes off all wrong.

I'm very tired of them trying to cast American characters with actors who can't pull off an American accent. If you want an American accent cast an American actor.

Again no evidence
aislingdublin3 June 2022
Loved the show up to last series. Problem is in this episode their yet again is no actual solid evidence that a jury could use to convict. Having watched some proper detective shows recently DIP which used to have great characters and be great fun is now lacking everywhere. Only the commissioner makes it worthwhile.

I've literally slept through every episode of this series
andrewwebbtrade29 January 2022
It used to be ok. This series I've not seen a single episode to the end as I've fallen asleep every time. Not a lot happens and it's not gripping at all.

The series is over
Casino-Royale22 January 2022
The best days of this series have long since gone since the new detective arrived. Two minutes in to this episode I was hoping all the appalling guest 'actors' would forget their parachutes.
