Booth and Sweets form a pact. Of course, they are both drunk at the time and we can see trouble ahead. For all of Booth's strengths, he can be pretty stupid sometimes. Hannah is a soldier of fortune; a seeker of danger; a person that goes where the story is. Booth views all women as those that would give up what they are because he has decided it. I know it's a TV show and it was just a prop, but throwing the ring away was pretty stupid, even under the circumstances. I would remind those who are mad at Hannah in the reviews that she is not a real person--she is a TV character. It does set up the next few episodes. Both Booth and Brennan have been doing a lot of drinking lately. The case has to do with BMX guys who destroy their bodies. It's OK.

Heart Crushing Yet Again

Warning: Spoilers
There are not many episodes that have left me with tears in my eyes. David's acting in the final scene always hits hard.

Emily also always finds a way to shine her eyes with emotion.

I find the A plot amusing! Classic punky-grungy skaters, Angela gets to leave the lab and help out in the field, and they bring back one of my favorite side characters Noel the stalker!

The B plot is tearjerking. Poor Booth feeling as though he isn't good enough for those he loves. Going to a bar and drowning his sorrows is something not often seen- when more often our duo shares victory drinks. I would say this is a must watch episode for those looking to see more of the deep care and camaraderie Bones has for Booth- even when he is drunk and angry.

The Sum Of The Pain In The Bar
vpgvgtwy17 May 2023
Hi Bones Booth!

If I'm being honest, the case is forgettable. Truly, as I just watched it earlier today and can't remember the A plot.

That said - Having seen the two previous shows David Boreanaz starred in, the moments of truly painful, honest acting are few and far in between.

(though they do exist; namely specific scenes in two of the Buffy/Angel crossover episodes.)

That's not to say he's not a decent actor; he is.

But tapping & conveying raw emotion while maintaining story integrity sometimes just doesn't get fully realized.

But this episode, Agent Booth's pain is conveyed in a truthful way, both for the character as well as cismen in general.

Crying while trying not to cry, walking that tightrope while maintaining authenticity for the script as well as his acting partner in this scene, Emily Deschanel, is tough, but the mark is most certainly hit here.

Agent Booth's pain is so apparent that for a moment, belief is suspended, and I forget that it's just a scene of a television show and instead feels like a conversation I shouldn't be privy to.

To that end, Emily Deschanel's acting deserves a nod as well (though she almost always hits the mark!).

You can almost see the wheels turning in her brain while she considers the two options Booth presents her in the bar. Although she clearly doesn't feel either option is ideal, you can see her deciding to throw logic out the window and stay with him and drink. For Brennan to do that, it shows a true commitment to her partnership and friendship with booth that while has been shown before, to see it in such an intimate and supportive way is really beautiful.

As the show goes on, there are other scenes in future episodes that are also emotionally beautiful, even when it occurs during otherwise negative situations. I'm looking forward to the rewatch!

Cheers.

Exit stage left Hannah....
kaylz-484003 August 2023
Hi Bones Booth pod!

So glad you've arrived at Hannah's exit! I know the boys wondered at the start of the season how long she stuck around for, and here we are.

The case this week is forgettable and I only remember this episode as being the one where Hannah leaves, though I do love any ep with Fischer and of course the return of our fav stalker Noel.

The proposal- I think subconsciously Booth knew Hannah would turn him down (or at least he hoped as much) to pave way for him and Brennan now that she's finally admitted her feelings. After all we know Booth still loves Brennan despite his "love" for Hannah. I'm not sure what would of happened if Hannah had of actually said yes! I am very much a Hannah apologist as well, I don't hate her like a lot of the fandom, and agree that Brennan had her chance and she said no. Booth moved on BUT I dislike the proposal scene and her comment "she's not the marrying type". You packed up your life and moved to DC to be with a man who you know wanted to settle and get married. You gave him mixed signals. What did you expect? That he'd never propose?

All of that said, I also tend to agree with a lot of the other reviewers about the final scene and Booth's comments about all the women not wanting what he has to offer. A little gaslighty victim to me. But I'm glad Brennan of course chose to just stick around and have a drink and say nothing.

Overall 10/10

Worst part: Booth proposing to Hannah and her telling him she's not the marrying type

Best part: Booth proposing to Hannah and her telling him she's not the marrying type.

Bye Bye Hannah
vampthropologist21 July 2023
Hiya Bones Booth! So glad you're finally here.

This episode is so fun despite the sad(ish) ending. Hodgins getting exasperated by Fisher, Cam getting Hodgins to say 'bunny' instead of 'bug', Angela in the field with that yellow patterned scarf, not to mention the return of Noel the stalker.

We even get a really sweet Brennan and Angela car scene (which is unfortunately only on the extended dvd version of the episode).

Now to get into the proposal scene.

I have no idea why Booth would propose to Hannah outside of it being blatant self-sabotage. Did he not notice how freaked out she got when she thought he was proposing earlier in the season? In my mind, in 6x11 when Booth watched Brennan with the conch shell outside the diner, he realised his feelings for her were still there and from then on, subconsciously found a way to get out of his relationship with Hannah. However, i really don't appreciate his "what's wrong with women" speech at the end - very 'nice guy' syndrome-y.

Anyway, I love this episode, if it wasn't for the number of times the killer said "plums" in reference to his balls, it would be completely perfect, but I guess I can overlook that and still give it a 10/10.

I hope that ring washed ashore...

Warning: Spoilers
Hi Bones Booth!

The episode itself was mid - you can call who the murderer is simply from the slightly longer shot on their cast when we're first introduced. Fisher is back and it's always a joy when he's at the Jefforsonian. We also get an appearance from Noel who is just hilarious. I'm so glad we got to have him interact with Sweets - I would've paid good money to see Noel interact with Fisher.

Now on to the real meat of the episode - Booth and Hannah. After a drunken night out, Sweets and Booth agree to propose to their respective partners which is a terrible idea. Even the way Booth comes to that decision is awful. It comes across as quite reactive to Sweets' comment and if Booth was thinking clearly, he should've remembered how Hannah reacted to that 'non-proposal" last time.

Honestly, after many rewatches I struggle to feel bad for Booth during the proposal. You don't spring a proposal on someone out of the blue. I think either A***** or A**** (from the podcast) put it best a couple of years ago - "Don't propose to someone if you don't know if they're going to say yes". If Booth had really listened to what Hannah was saying, he would've known not to propose.

I hate Booth's comment about women not wanting what he's offering paired with the "I'm just really mad at all of you" line to Bones - it just gives major "I'm a nice guy" vibes which is icky.

Overall, a forgettable and boring case but Fisher and Noel liven it up. Booth brings it back down

Sincerely, a Booth lover I promise (he just didn't handle this right imo)

Hannah....
briezey3 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A lot happened in this episode.

We start off with a fun scene between Booth and Sweets getting drunk together when they both decide to propose to their girlfriends. Sweets backs out, which is honestly the right move for him. Booth, however, decides to go through with it (his first mistake). He buys a super expensive ring and goes to propose to Hannah at night surrounded by these pretty little lights. And what does Hannah say? "No, I'm not the marrying type." Of course she would say something rude like that to our guy, Booth. While I am incredibly happy that Hannah and Booth are not engaged, I am just bothered by Hannah's excuse. In other episodes, Bones had talked about how she opposes marriage because it is an outdated ritual or whatever. However, Hannah saying she's "not the marrying type" just feels like a weird excuse. I just wish there was a bit more backstory to this sudden declaration of not wanting to marry Booth, especially because a few episodes ago she asked if he was proposing to her when he made her a nice dinner.

Booth proceeds to THROW the wedding ring into a body of water, which probably wasn't the best move for him financially. The final scene with Bones and Booth at the Founding Fathers was heart breaking. Booth feels as though he will never find a woman who wants to marry him.

The fact that Hannah and Booth are no longer together is the sole reason for me giving this a 10/10. Otherwise, this episode was pretty good. We got to see Angela in the field. Fischer was our typical Fischer.

Best Part: getting rid of Hannah (yay!)

Worst Part: watching Booth deal with so many harsh emotions at the end.

I am seriously going to kill Hannah...
abbyrd8812 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
How could she break Booth's heart!!!!! He is such an incredible guy and he bought her a ring he couldn't even afford and she rejected him with "I'm not the marrying type." BULLSHIT I SAY! Then what type are you, Hannah? Apparently the type to have flings just to break good mens' hearts. And then she tried to turn it on Booth by saying that he must of not been listening when she told him she wasn't the marrying type. Ugh. The nerve of her. I'm seriously worried that Booth will never want to take a chance on love again. And honestly I wouldn't blame him figuring as he has now been full out rejected by women he sincerely loved three times. Poor Booth.
