Geniunly entertaining...!!!
PANDIAN1206214 September 2023
A low budget family entertainer that's well planned & executed by priyadarshan who is well known as producer friendly director in Bollywood indeed a prolific creator himself... Urvashi once again does handle her role effortlessly and also her emotional portion shows her versatility and that's how she is a legend in South Indian cinema today... On the other hand all the rest of character's does contribute a great level including the dog, while the comedy portiondoes travel along with the plot which is the biggest asset of the movie... Crisy editing and apt camera work support the screenplay that's been running at a good pace...!!!

Overall it's a little gem to watch out with family at a Sunday noon.

An easy evening watch with family
findmuralli4 August 2023
First understand where this movie belongs. It's not aiming at any awards or a blockbuster status. It has no star-power other than the we'll deserved Urvashi. It is meant to be an easy evening watch with family. It is preachy, doesn't have any other performances to speak of, has a lot of loop holes and few illogical situations. Set all those aside and sit with a few friends or family and watch.

Urvashi's brilliant performance, witty and quick dialogues, the dog and some of the noteworthy concepts preached elevate the movie from watchable into a much enjoyable movie. Watch it for a lazy but engaging watch. Kids, elders and those.who love dogs will love the movie.

Urvashi holds Appatha together
kharesh-3860313 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film explores the emotion of a longing mother, who wants to spend some quality time with her son and his family but her son hates her for her background and her profession and tricks her to take care of his dog when he is on vacation with his wife and son, by the end of the movie the son is proven wrong when his mother gets a national recognition for her work.

The motive of this film is unsure for both the writer and the viewers.

This movie suddenly takes a path of dog and human love, cuts to the son and mom relationship and revolves around a lot of poorly written dialogues and unrealistic performances.

The camera work, lighting and shot composition look like an amateur effort although the first 20 mins of the film cover a beautiful village with some nature interaction overall as a film the work is not impressive.

Seriously Urvasi's tamed acting and believable dialogue delivery save the film.

The director's effort to make a dog act felt very weak that sometimes you don't feel the emotion that would have been a great scene in our imagination but falls flat in the shot.

The supporting characters did a decent role, but not great support for the film, maybe if the screenplay is a bit crisper and not in a pace to test our patience, Appatha is definitely more than a one-time watchable film.

Grandma and dog relationship
karthikeyan-462932 August 2023
Good to watch with our family and its superb movies with comedies of appatha and dog. Appatha - Kannama, runs a small pickle making business in Kayilanpatti with only women employees and Sakthi played by Siddharth Babu, to help her. Appatha is a hard working widow, wise and very influential person, she also helps the village women to write government forms and educate women to be brave. Appatha has a son named Pavvadai Sami played by Amit Bhargav, who lives in chennai with his wife, son and his adorable dog Zeus. Appatha and her son always had a broken relationship. Her son was ashamed of her and her pickle business since they come from a poor family.

Appatha Tamil Movie Review by Shahildas.k

Movie Review: "Appatha"

Date: July 30, 2023

"Appatha" is a Tamil movie that I had the pleasure of watching on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and it left a lasting impression on me. The film's calm and soothing atmosphere, coupled with its heartwarming story, left me with a good feeling that lingered even after the credits rolled.

One of the highlights of the movie was the exceptional performance by Urvashi Mam. It's truly remarkable to know that "Appatha" marks her 700th movie, and she delivered an outstanding portrayal in this film. Her talent and dedication to her craft shine through, making her character deeply relatable and endearing.

Kudos to Priyadarshan sir for his direction, which skillfully reminded me of the fast-paced scenes characteristic of classic Malayalam movies like "Vandhanam" and "Chithram." The movie's seamless flow kept me engaged from start to finish.

The story of "Appatha" revolves around the adventures of Kannamma, a character afraid of dogs, but it is so much more than that. It beautifully delves into the lives of elderly people, highlighting the challenges they face and the emotions that come with aging. The film struck an emotional chord, touching my heart and leaving me with a newfound appreciation for the elderly.

The screenplay and storytelling were praiseworthy, and I must personally appreciate the writers for crafting such a heartwarming and thought-provoking narrative. The inclusion of a talented dog actor added an extra layer of charm to the movie, enhancing its appeal.

As a reviewer, I give "Appatha" a well-deserved rating of 9/10. It is a movie that entertains, prompts reflection on the love animals offer, and serves as a wholesome family film. There were no dull moments throughout the movie, and I believe it will be enjoyed by many.

To the producer, I extend my gratitude for bringing us this simple yet heart-touching and entertaining gem. Without their efforts, we wouldn't have had the chance to experience this delightful film.

In conclusion, "Appatha" is a must-watch for those seeking a movie that leaves a lasting impact. It caters to different tastes and offers a powerful message about life, love, and the challenges faced by the elderly. Urvashi Mam's exceptional performance alone makes it worth the watch, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

My name is Shahildas.k, and I take pride in providing honest and true opinions about movies. I believe my review has helped you gauge the essence of "Appatha." Urvashi Mam's portrayal truly deserves recognition, and I am certain this movie will find a special place in the hearts of many viewers.

Must watch emotional entertainer
magzuin13 August 2023
Appatha is very emotional and family oriented movies, this shows the Hardships of a mother who does everything give a very good up bringing and education to his son who in turn is even ashamed to recognise his mother in front of everyone. Character is a role model for the society who not only want to make her life better but also want the women of the society to improve be self dependent and do not tolerate any atrocities of their husbands.

This movie shows a very heart warming relation between Apatha and the Dog Zeus, this has again shown us that They our best friends and companions who would never leave our side.

All in all excellent movie to watch please watch the same with your families.

Below average movie: Misleading reviews.
wdrnddr11 August 2023
This movie barely has the dog in it. The lady in the film acts as if the dog is the entire problem and creates ruckus. Although everything turns out to be fine like every other movie, the transition from hating the dog to forgiving it was not smooth at all. It was very artificial. As a dog lover, seeing the dog suffer was not enjoyable. And the story seemed very very filmy. It was not worth the watch. Please don't waste your time. There are no interesting twists, the most predictable and lazy movie.

The other reviews seem extremely misleading. 8.6 for this disaster seems kind of funny to me. Why do people lie so much.

Urvashi ok, Zoos ok !!
cksquare12 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Priyadharshan has given several unforgetable movies in Malayalam. This is probably one of his average outing. There is nothing new here. Same old story. Cliched story telling.

Only thing that works is some reasonable effort by Urvashi to deliver her part. And of course Zoos does his job well. The scenes and portrayal people in the village was way better, in comparison to the story/acting in the flat in Chennai.

Even tho' Urvashi and Zoos do an ok job, their bit together was so unbelievable at best. And how quickly they bond, not uncommon by a dog, but for a human to quickly overcome their fear is just unfathomable.

The last 15 mins of the movie could easily be avoided and skipped. The first 15-20 mins were the best.
