I have to admit, I'm biased because I've spent quite a few years living in Kenya, and it's easy to feel homesick for the unpredictable, chaotic and adventurous process of traveling in East Africa. I have a friend who took the same trip on the Liemba, down and back along the length of Lake Tanganyika. The film resonated perfectly with the tales he told me of his experience on what turned out to be one of his most memorable trips ever.
The filming beautifully captures the lake & landscape , the historical old boat that serves to maintain the local economies, and the incredible spirit of the people who traverse this route as an every day part of their hardscrabble lives, surviving and enjoying a community in constant motion. And the music is local and as good as it gets !
