Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand the hate towards this episode from other reviewers as it provided the necessary background story of the main character , her transition into a whole new position from mechanic to sheriff , the aftermath of the mayor's death etc . Of course it's not as strong as the previous episodes but its still a quite intriguing and needed episode to advance the story further .

Rebecca Ferguson is doing a very good job here even though at times she gives me some " Kim Wexler " vibes with her acting , Tim Robbins will get more menacing in time and he will probably be the main antagonist of the series while everyone else is really well casted .

I personally cant wait for the next episode , got me fully hooked.

kinda slow...
nerrdrage20 January 2024
After the nice worldbuilding of the pilot, this series seems to have settled into a moderately okay 7/10 range. Good enough to keep me watching, but it definitely reminds me of the just-okay sci fi series I used to see on cable, and not nearly as good as Apple's other genre series - Severance and For All Mankind. Or as out-there as Foundation. I guess I'm spoiled.

Juliette's backstory is nothing special and the guy who plays her father can't act or do anything close to an American accent (why are they making these poor actors fake accents they can't handle?) The crusty old broad in the machine shop is fun. The in-your-face caste system where everyone looks down on people at the lower level is too hokey.

The beer kinda threw me. Do they have a beer bottling plant on the premises? Okay they could be growing hops and brewing beer. They could carefully save and reuse all the bottles, or even manufacture new ones from recycled glass. Okay it gets a pass, they have beer.

Cmon folks, let's take a walk outside and see what's really going on! I miss Rashida Jones' Allison. She should have been the main character. Of course she's still alive and probably eating hot fudge sundaes at the amusement park right over that hill. Suckers.

I don't get the hate...

This episode was very good and totally moved the plot along. Is it a fast show? No. But it wasn't "fast paced" from the start. The first two episodes were the set up which always seem faster because you're getting to know the universe. The third episode, to me was a little unnecessary. I don't know why they needed to spend like 40 minutes on mechanical repair. I guess it's to establish the Juliet character and show her resolve, which arguably could have been done in less time. But this episode was great. I guess these negative reviewers never heard of character development. The flashbacks were very well done and helped you understand Juliet as a character. Overall this show is incredibly well written and intriguing. And who ever calls Rebecca Ferguson a "no name" must live under a rock. She was in the Mission Impossibles and Doctor Sleep just to name two. She's a very talented actor who does a supurb job here.

The story is solid, the writing is a bit cookie cutter

Warning: Spoilers
I think this show has a lot of potential to become the big show for Apple. Episodes 1-3 were all great science fiction, and they all had a very tightly written storyline.

I don't know if they were all done in rapid succession or not, but this one just doesn't feel anywhere near as well written. A lot of this episode feels like it was penned by someone who finished a big scene and now doesn't really know where to take the rest of the chapter.

The dialogue feels stiff to say the least with lots of storyline cliches. The beaten dad, the dead mom and brother, the angst ridden kid, the angry man who misses his girlfriend and wants to fight the world, the unhappy assistant, etc etc etc.

I understand how this can seem like a bit of a pre-mature death warning for a show that's only 4 episodes into its run, but this is the point where a lot of new series are either made or broken. Everyone starts their show with a bang, and ends the first season with a bang, but that middle section is where you can really tank your viewership.

In terms of acting I am still really impressed. No one seems to be stumbling or reaching the end of their potential which is a good thing! I just hope the writing staff can keep up with the stamina of the acting talent here, because it would be a damned shame to burn this cast on bad scripts.

Just follow the far superior book. These glacial speed filler episodes are unnecessary.
ginger-11127 May 2023
My husband knows I've read these books multiple times and that I've looked forward to a screen version for years. He asks how the plot compares to the book. He occasionally asks a question and if there's no spoiler, I fill in some gaps. So when he asked, "Is it just me, or was this episode really slow without any story?"

"Honey, I got nothing. I don't even know what story we were watching because it sure wasn't Silo."

Who is this guy and what did they do with Marnes? What a Grade A jerk they've turned him into! You can be sure it's part of the "character development" to bring him on side, but if they halfway follow the story, it soon won't matter.

From the way Sandy and Jules interact, it's clear the writers aren't content to let conflict flow naturally - and realistically - as it does in the original. In the book, you sympathize with both women. In the series, you don't care for either of them and certainly wouldn't invite either over to dinner. One big cat fight is sure to ensue. RrrrrrrOOWWW!

And what's with Sims? And why are they so buddy buddy? Judicial hardly gets a mention, but now they're obviously supposed to be the Bad Guys, especially since Sims seems to have been shifted out of IT to Judicial for the screen version. Who is this Judge Meadows we had to make up because the REALLY bad guy we already KNOW to be a bad guy isn't nearly bad enough?

If your plan is to come back and binge this series later, you can safely skip this one and you won't miss a thing. And you'll save yourself the question of where the heck the (TOTALLY out of place) beer came from.

It's getting worse and worse
purpleorange-4669719 May 2023
First episode was amazing and pulled me right in, didn't waste a single moment to show something exciting. After watching this last episode I feel like I am watching totally different show.

What happened? A whole episode of nothing. So slow and meaningless made me skip a few scenes in order not to fall asleep.

I hope book is better because I will probably drop this if it doesn't pick up again.

Rebecca Ferguson can't carry this show and it seems like she isn't even trying at this point. I can't believe hot much worse this show is getting one episode after another.

Every scene is a slog, we can see from a mile away that Judicial is evil and that local law enforcement has no idea etc, no need to repeat same tropes every episode, so predictable and boring drivel.

The first 2 episodes were good...
lovecu13 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
...but it looks that this initially promising sci-fi series has just turned into a boring police procedural set in a bunker. It's never a good sign when three episodes in, there's a ridiculous filler episode, with completely unfeasible action involving a generator.

Although there's a stella cast, including Tim Robbins, and fresh from Succession, Harriet Walter, the snails pace of the plot, the tired old flashbacks to fill out the characters, and the general lack of any discernable science fiction at this point, is not encouraging me to venture any further.

So many of these stories nowadays are built upon dystopian societies, and it's getting so dreary to plod through yet another that doesn't seem to be delivering.

Wasted about an hour of my life with this filler episode
MoviesRmything20 May 2023
Title says it all. Knew they were going to kill off the stars of this show early...but this episode was awful for so many other reasons. I can deal with that bait-and-switch, as long as the other actors are doing well, but Patton's acting was phoned in here.

Really hoping the next episode makes up for this one. If it doesn't, then I'm dropping this series, sadly. Don't know what we're going to do while waiting for Star Trek's Strange New Worlds to finally pick up again.

This thing with only 8 - 10 episodes, then wait for over a year or two for another season is just baloney. Makes it tough to feel sorry for the writer's striking.

Awful
Shefhammer26 August 2023
Losing interest rapidly. Ferguson is an absolute queen but even that isn't enough to sustain interest when the plotting is so glacial and the dialogue so tedious. Does Apple think it has discovered a new, superior way of lighting TV shows because I have news for them - they haven't. This and Succession are so dark at times you may as well just listen to it and switch off the visuals. There are literally scenes where 90% of the screen is total blackness. Which idiot thought that was a good idea and did they used to work in radio?

I like the premise but the characters are just not compelling enough to overcome a plot that is barely offering any interest at all. I'll give it one more episode and then unless things change, I'm out.

If this episode had been written by CHATGPT it would be better
schiavon-8984021 May 2023
Absolutely nothing happens in this episode If this episode had been written by CHATGPT it would be better. Boring flashbacks that don't advance the story, shallow conflicts that are just cheap arguments and half the episode with the Sheriff's assistant crying and suffering over the mayor's death. Mexican soap operas are better. The writers of this series shouldn't go on strike, they should thank God for getting paid to write this piece of rubbish.

Absolutely nothing happens in this episode If this episode had been written by CHATGPT it would be better.

Warning: Spoilers
The good thing is that this episode was not quite as long as the others, which were far too long. The bad thing is this just dragged and dragged and nothing came out of it.

It seems like this is a sci-fi show that is going to tease an apocalypse, or just a huge heist and attempt to fool humanity, but whatever that outcome is, resorting to the cheap tactic of killing off characters one by one feels really lame. We know now that one character will be gone at the end of each episode, which kills the drama and kills the concept of there being a true cliffhanger that keeps us wanting to watch week to week.

Plodding boring story, WAY too dark
therealnecros21 May 2023
Boring plodding character arc.

This episode of "The Silo" was a huge letdown. The story was so boring and predictable that I could guess what would happen next. The characters were dull and stereotypical, and I felt no connection or empathy with them. The lead sheriff was especially nonsensical jumping from emotion to emotion her boring backstory that added nothing to the plot. The editing was terrible, with the silo being so dark that I could barely see anything. It was a frustrating and unsatisfying experience to watch this episode.

I do not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quality TV show with a good story and engaging characters.

This is a skippable filler episode and really worrying for the future of the series.

I hope the sheriff isnt the main character, thrusting an unknown actress into the place of well known and experienced actors is a bait and switch.
