Storyline
Plot Summary |
X-Men '97 continues the story of X-Men (1992). In both series, mutants are individuals born with superhuman abilities that typically manifest during puberty. The X-Men are a team of mutant superheroes founded by Professor Charles Xavier to protect both mutants and humans. At the end of The Animated Series, Xavier nearly dies in an assassination attempt and is taken into space to be healed by the alien Shi'ar Empire. X-Men '97 begins a year later and sees the X-Men facing new challenges without Xavier, under the leadership of their former adversary, Magneto. Like the original series, X-Men '97 combines action, soap opera-style drama, and the exploration of serious topics. |

Did You Know?
Trivia | Kevin Feige had only two conditions for the show. * 1.) The original X-Men (1992) voice-cast had to return. * 2.) The rights for the theme tune of X-Men (1992) had to be obtained. See more » |
Goofs | The name of the series contains a typo (purposefully or otherwise): what should be an apostrophe is, instead, a single open-quotation mark. The font makes the distinction somewhat subtle on the main title screen, though the error is very clear in the end credits, which use a different font. The typo may be purposeful on the part of the showrunners, to reflect this common autocorrect error in the 1990s, wherein word processors would see the punctuation following a space and assume it meant the beginning of a quotation within a quotation. (It would be not surprising if the typo were purposeful, given the show's theme of Man vs. Machine. Additionally, while the same "autocorrect fail" is still common to this day, there may be a nostalgic quality crafted by intentionally committing the error here.) It is noteworthy that some streaming interfaces correct some instances of the typo. For example, on some applications that run Disney+, pausing the show presently shows the apostrophe right-side-up.
