We catch up with actor, writer and director Noel Clarke to chat about the DVD release of Centurion, and a whole lot more…
I've had the pleasure of chatting with Noel Clarke a few times now for the site, and always seems to get to the end of interviews with him with lots of questions left over.
It was the same again as we met up to chat about Neil Marshall's Centurion, about looking back on 4.3.2.1, and the projects he's got coming up next. Nonetheless, we still managed to squeeze plenty of chatter in. And I've got questions ready for next time, too...
We're not used to seeing you of late in an acting role, going to work for someone else. And you got the role in Centurion on the day you got your BAFTA, didn't you?
Day before, yeah.
What's the appeal of Centurion for you, then?
The appeal is in Neil Marshall.

If you want a visual feast, you must watch UK short "Reign Of Death" - it's dystopian futurism, complete with film noir robots and a high tech gumshoe.
Plus it stars Doctor Who's Noel Clarke (Mickey!) and is directed by concept designer Matt Savage, who worked on Doctor Who, Kick-Ass, and the upcoming X-Men: First Class. The styling reminds me of Caprica, with its blend of mid-twentieth century styles and a hypertech future.
This short has been making the rounds of UK film festivals, and just went live on YouTube. Here's hoping we'll see more from Savage - and thanks to VFX producer Jon Rennie for bringing this to our attention!
Full short after the break.

He's a man with a plan, and it seems that there is nothing that Noel Clarke can't do, having made dramas, heists, historical epics, films about urban youth and tv shows about Timelords. And now, just to push those boundaries a bit further, he's fusing two genres and extending a sci-fi noir short into a full-length feature film.
Having brought home some bigger bucks with his lady-thief-filled 4.3.2.1, the Kidulthood Adulthood actor/director/writer/producer is looking for new ways to get more fingers to stick in pies and the extension his recent pairing with young director and graphic concept artist Matthew Savage for Reign Of Death seemed like the ideal opportunity to turn his hand to a bit of Blade Running.
Savage, who worked on the storyboarding for now modern classics Kick-Ass and The Dark Knight (as well as this Summer's Prince of Persia) told Empire Online:"The feature takes...

After extending his range with heist caper 4.3.2.1, actor/director/writer/producer/tea-maker Noel Clarke is considering science-fiction next. Reign Of Death is a sci-fi noir short film starring Clarke and written and directed by Matthew Savage. It's stunningly shot and well worth watching and now the pair are looking to turn it into a full-length film.*“The feature takes place within the same universe as the short, but it’s darker and more sinister in tone,” says Savage. “It follows an investigative storyline, with Noel’s gumshoe character taking the lead. The short was an experiment in creating a visually interesting environment within which to tell our story.”Savage, who has previously created concept art for The Dark Knight and Kick-Ass, met his star when they were both working on Doctor Who.“I optioned Reign Of Death a long time ago, for my company, with a view to getting a feature done,...

Noel Clarke is working on a sequel to his 2008 teen crime drama Adulthood. The British actor-filmmaker's Unstoppable Ent firm has signed a first-look deal with Icon to finance, sell and distribute his movies, reports Variety. Clarke is expected to be involved in two films a year - budgeted between £3 million and £6 million - under the agreement. Hood3, which could potentially continue the story of Clarke's reformed Kidulthood and Adulthood character Sam Peel, sci-fi noir Reign Of Death and the previously announced 2012 Olympics sports film Fast Girls (more)...
