Exceeds Expectations

I enjoyed the prior two seasons and remember laughing at the siblings shenanigans, as well all of the comedic portions. But since it had been a while, I didn't really remember if I really loved the show, but after watching a portion of season three episode one, I was in love with it all over again. This show is so clever, well written, and downright hilarious. It entirely hits the mark and I found myself laughing out loud throughout this whole episode from start to finish. I commend hbo and all who are involved in this masterpiece. I know that's a big praise, but I feel like it's well deserved. It brings me joy, whilst not being too dark or negative!

Warning: Spoilers
This show is really strong at introducing new characters and creating this universe of good guys and bad guys in the world of Christianity and for-profit churches.

But the jokes did not really seem to land here. I feel like there were a lot more opportunities for comedy that could have been explored, but it was not there. Maybe the commitment to introducing those new characters and those new storylines hurt that a bit.

This is a Danny McBride show at the end of the day though and we deserve a lot more laughs than this if his past shows on HBO are any kind of indication of future performance, but who knows?

What happened!!??

Warning: Spoilers
Loved the first two seasons. Loved!! Hilarious plots. Hilarious lines. Season 3? I was actually embarrassed for the actors... All of them... I literally had to turn it off several times to keep going. I forced myself to get to the end, just in case it improved. Spoiler alert... It did not. I think, in the final analysis, they've lost the original spark. They've become campy caricatures of themselves. It's forced. They're all trying too hard. The magic just seems to be gone. The swearing, which used to be funny and irreverent, is now counted upon to camouflage lazy, bad writing. Makes me sad... I don't think I can make it to episode 2. Come on guys... you're all better than this schlock.

I don't get it.

I don't get it, it just seems like a lot of stereotypes of the south and catholicism. In the Midwest Catholic schools offer a better education environment than most of the public school education system so being from the midwest the stereotypes fall extremely short and stupid. The extremism is very Jerry Springer and lazy. Catholic school was the only place where class would start at the sound of the bell vs in public where teachers would have to send 2-3 to detention to get a start talking. I like Danny McBride, Goodman, Zahn in general and I used to see Tim Baltz at IO, Tim is showing some range in the show but the whole thing seems like a stereotype that doesn't ring my pre-determined thoughts to get into.
