  Richard Cypher : See how the deer changed direction when they heard us coming? Can you tell me which way they went?

  Cara Mason : I don't see why I need to learn to hunt.

  Richard Cypher : We're not in a Mord-Sith temple. We don't have slaves to bring us dinner.

  Cara Mason : I'm here to protect you, Richard. Not provide meals.

  Richard Cypher : [smiles]  Kahlan's not above digging up roots. And even Zedd's been known to do the washing now and then. We all need to contribute.

  Cara Mason : [seductively]  Are you saying I don't do enough for you?

  Richard Cypher : Just tell me which way the deer went.

  Cara Mason : That way... Where the bark has rubbed off the tree.

  Richard Cypher : See? I knew you'd be good at this.

• Cara Mason : Love them? I'd kill a thousand men before I'd let one of them make me his slave!

• Cara Mason : [enters cave dwelling carrying batch of hunted-down hares]  I brought you dinner. Quick little bastards. But not quick enough.

  Roga : Thank you. But we never eat anything that's been killed.

  Cara Mason : [coldly]  Actually, I found them by the side of the road, where they died a natural... peaceful death.

  Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander : Cara... We're Roga's guests.

  Cara Mason : There's no sense to this!

  [throws down the hares] 

  Cara Mason : It's one thing to kill another person. But you have to eat.

  Roga : I saw some winterberries growing along the path, down below the rocks. We'll gather some.

  Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander : [as the group goes off]  Go after them.

  Cara Mason : They don't want our help.

  Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander : As long as we're with them, I'm not going to allow any more of them to be killed. Go!

  [Cara goes after them, smirks] 

• Cara Mason : [towers over downed slaver with her Agiel held threateningly]  Take a message to Caldor. Leave the Minders alone.

  Roga : I won't let you hurt him!

  Cara Mason : I'm just gonna teach him a lesson.

  Roga : Yes. The same lesson you've both been taught all your lives. That violence will help you.

  Cara Mason : [scoffs]  Do what you want. I'm through with you.

  Roga : [to the rogue]  Go in peace. Serve the Creator, and she will reward you.

  [the slaver grabs this opportunity to scurry off, and Cara smirks] 

• Roga : Hungry?

  [offers berries] 

  Cara Mason : [haughty]  Not particularly.

  Roga : Don't you like winterberries?

  Cara Mason : Maybe stuffed inside a crisply roasted suckling pig.

  Roga : Try one. You may be surprised.

  [Cara deigns to sample one] 

  Roga : Good... Right?

• Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander : Did he hurt the boy?

  Kahlan Amnell : Mostly just scared the wits out of him. But there was an anger in Richard's eyes I'd never seen before.

  [shakes her head] 

  Kahlan Amnell : Bitter... and harsh.

  Cara Mason : Maybe you're just upset because Richard raised his voice at you.

  Kahlan Amnell : You weren't there. Had you seen what happened, you'd know something was wrong. The Sword was glowing.

  Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander : Glowing?

  Cara Mason : Does that mean something?

  Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander : The magic of the Sword is fueled by the Seeker's anger. With it, he's able to fight with the strength of many men. The Sword only glows... when the Seeker's anger turns to rage.

  Kahlan Amnell : He was out of control. Could this have something to do with removing the binding spell from the Minders?

  Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander : I don't know. But I need to see him!
