Father's Home!

In a one off side story we get to see the wider mythology of this series' alternative view of WW2 and post-WW2 history. Here we get to travel back in time to war-torn Germany to visit the home of a peculiar old couple and the troublesome guests hunting their own 'prey'. A seemingly innocent and idyllic setting beautifully rendered in Wes Anderson-esque colours doesn't try to hide the darkness all around it -that isn't 'snow' that's falling - and the creepiness really sets in once a team of SS hunters pay a visit. Full of inventiveness and the blackest of comedy think Inglorious Basterds meets Home Alone directed by Wes Anderson.

An "off-story" episode which really isn't
eoswaldbigred23 January 2023
At first, you wonder what is going on with this episode. You are seeing what you think will be a short story that somehow gives us a moral related to the episode. You wonder when it's going to get back to the thriller you had been watching. But what you get is an entire episode that feels like the first scene in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds" that gives you a back story you were not expecting. Like something out of "Pleasantville," you think it's going to be a quaint tale reminiscent of "Pushing Daisies" in its style, but there's more underneath. Beautiful, harrowing, unexpected. Well done.

Penultimate Television

The Home, episode 7 of the second season the Hunters is one of the greatest single episodes of television ever. Think Burgess Meredith as the librarian in the Twilight Zone episode 'Time Enough at Last'. This exquisitely imagined and crafted fairy tale of holocaust evil exists outside the narrative of Hunters as a standalone story so can (and should) be watched by anyone and everyone.

Just because I have to fill the 600 character quota, I will tell you that this accomplished, surreal short film is simply television at it's finest. It does what the medium of television does best.; it engages you, tells a story, entertains you and kicks you upside the head. Just watch it.

Thank you, Amazon.

A pleasant surprise. Well done.

My all time favorite Hunters Episode. All the pieces in the episode came together. This episode takes a turn from the main story line for most of the episode, at first you don't know why. This episode takes a story that has been depicted frequently in WWII media of keeping Jews hidden from searching Nazis. While it may be a commonly depicted, it has never been done like this. It is extremely creative, mysterious, emotional, intriguing, mixed with the action/violence typical for this show. It also ties in beautifully with the main story line. If you liked "Black Mirror", this episode has a Black Mirror vibe in all the best ways.

Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely masterpiece of an episode. I was confused at first, but as the episode went on I started to put the pieces together. Magical storytelling from the script to the cinematography. The house is magnificently structured and purposeful. It is surprisingly my favorite episode of the series that has absolutely nothing to do with the main characters. The ghosts have come back to haunt them. The performances from the two main characters to Zev to the rest of the ensemble were sublime. The ending of the episode was just the cherry on top to what Zev tells Hitler on the boat. He comes like Chiron to deliver him to Hades.

Outstanding

One of the best episodes of TV I have ever seen. This could have been a black mirror episode it was absolutely brilliant. The suspense and the way the story unfolds has you scratching your head but it all eventually pieces together. I have watched it again after knowing the twist and it gets better on second/third viewing. Whoever created this episode needs an award it's unique, happy, sad, revengeful, suspenseful and brilliantly acted by all involved. The house is that nice it makes you wanna visit. I don't need to add anymore other than watch this episode even if you haven't watched a single episode of Hunters.

It's the episode

Very excellent production all around. If anyone who worked on this episode is reading this, you made one of the best bottle episodes of all time. Great writing and performances by the actors. Tense and weird dutch angles frame portrait shots with some ridiculous lens. The house is beautiful, great design in and out. Gorgeous lighting, but that's always been a strong suit I Hunters.

Easy to throw references and inspirations around but it really does feel like the show earned this with all the other crazy choices they've made this is like a perfect distillation of what that can look like moving together.

best episode of this series
dwoolfe9917 March 2023
OK so at first this is a strange episode. It's difficult to figure out how it connects to the rest of the series. It concerns an eccentric elderly German couple in 1942, who receive a visit from the Gestapo, who tell them they received an anonymous tip that they were harboring Jews in their house. It would be a great disservice to provide any further details. Except to say that it's...just awesome.

This series is a 7 for me. I liked it but did not love it. This episode, however, is a straight 10. It's just flat out great, and it doesn't really matter much how it connects to the main story as a back story for one newly introduced character. You can watch this episode and not even watch the rest of this series, and it's still great. In fact, I would have loved it had they made a full length feature film out of the episode instead of just making it an episode of Hunters. It's easily the best thing in the series.

The last thing I will say about it is that it is clearly inspired by the first scene in Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds." Though it plays out quite differently, the writers were clearly inspired by that scene.

One of the most memorable episodes of any series
lavarharden17 July 2023
Much akin to "The Red Wedding", "Who Shot JR", "Who Shot Mr Burns", "Soup Nazi", this is one of the most memorable episodes of a generation. The storyline, the acting, the dialogue, the cinematography were exceptional. This single episode felt like a full feature film. It was so well done that I wouldn't be shocked if people shared they've physically experienced a sense of anxiety while watching. This truly could be seen as a lead domino for a prequel spin-off. Every Emmy season a cinephile will see one or two episodes of a series that they like/love and they immediately know that an Emmy nomination should, at the very least, be considered.

Exceptional

As people have been saying, a "stand alone episode" which to begin you, sigh a little bit because it's a bit off track to the main story, but once you're in the middle of it , you realise you are watching a masterpiece.

I Think This Is A Ghost Story.
wandernn1-81-68327431 August 2023
I think this episode might be my favorite one of the series besides the Pilot episode. Holy Hell! I love mystery houses and this ep. Scratches that itch for sure. All in the SPIRIT of the show, which is perfect.

I always loved the story of Diary of Anne Frank. I always imagine how things would have been so much better if Anne had just set a bunch of traps in the house!

Team number one goes in, has a few mishaps. Then team number two goes in.

Traps traps and more traps! Haha. I love this episode. The House story is great.

I have to take away 1 star because the capture of A#1H is just so dumb it's not even funny. I can see the series getting cancelled after that stupidity.

9/10.

Hugo's there
begob4 May 2023
When a team of Nazi investigators comes knocking at their door in search of hidden Jews, an elderly couple invites them in for some ... surprises.

Beautifully shot in a rich and idyllic location, with an industrial chimney spewing 'snow' in the hinterland, this immediately gives off a Grimm's fairy tale vibe with hints of psychological deception, and even the supernatural.

But the story has many implausibilities, which become overbearing once the pretence of fairy tale is abandoned and the promise of psychological sophistication turns into flat revenge. In the end, it's a juvenile fantasy that brings the fake values of the superhero genre to bear on our dilemma over violent hatred.

The standard of performances is mixed, with some of the German accents grating on the ear. The reference to America feels like audience pandering, as the gents in black leather boots had a considerably bigger problem in 1942 with the Soviet Union.
