A lot of heart
angelalchew3 August 2023
Admittedly, there was a style issue I had with the film (wasn't a fan of the actors looking directly into the camera since it was rather jarring), but where it could use some work on a style front, I was very touched by the heart and substance in the story. The relationship of the couple was believable as was the protagonist's struggle with her girlfriend and her father whom she still loved despite his old-fashioned thinking.

The acting garnered a sympathetic response (aka tears) from me, and the storyline was plotted out well. Kudos to the actors and screenwriter for telling a moving, well-rounded story.

Worth a watch!

Maggie is a solid film and I think it's definitely worth a watch. The story was very touching and actually was trying to make a point that I thought came across very clearly. I thought the pacing was great and kept me engaged as I watched. I'd also like to commend the cinematography that was beautiful and really captured the performance of the actors well. With the writing, the balance of drama and comedy I feel was a very profound balance that represents life and the conflict present extremely well. Overall I think the film is worth a watch and I definitely the experience of it. I'd highly recommend!

Maggie is barely a movie
Marklass223 April 2023
I recently saw "Maggie" and unfortunately, it was one of the worst movies I've ever watched. The biggest problem with the film was Kevin Chew's performance as Jim, the father of the main character. Chew's acting was so cartoonish that it was impossible to believe he was a real parent. The dialogue was also stilted, which was made worse by the over-the-top theater-like performances from the rest of the cast.

The movie attempts to tackle complex themes of sexual identity and cultural divide, but it comes off as a bad after-school special. The directing was pedestrian at best, with multiple instances where characters just deliver their lines directly into the camera. It was painful to watch.

Overall, I would highly recommend that you avoid this movie at all costs. It's a waste of time and money, and there are much better films out there that tackle similar themes in a more meaningful and nuanced way.

Beautiful Film
susannepinedo19 August 2023
This is truly beautiful stroytelling and the film depicts topics of family and LGBT issues in a very realistic manner. I really appreciate the diversity in the casting and all the actors make a wonderful ensemble. The chemistry between the talented cast is palpable as they weave and tell a very touching story. While I really enjoyed the script, I would have liked a little more fleshing out of some of the relationships and situations, but I think the screenwriter and director did a great job with the short film genre. I saw this film as part of a special screening and I will see it again once it is released in movie theaters.
