Intriguing and exciting, very good start.
Sleepin_Dragon9 January 2024
After narrowly avoiding being killed in a deliberate motoring accident, a man wakes up in hospital, with no memory, all he has is a note, with a meeting point and time.

I'm kicking myself for not watching this when it first aired, but better late than never as they say, and with a second series on now, it felt like the right time.

A very exciting opening sequence, and am interesting enough follow up, I am intrigued to learn exactly who this mysterious man is, what he's done, and how he ended up there, I'm also keen to learn what part Luci has to play, and what secrets she's keeping from him.

What part will Ólafur Darri Ólafsson have to play, I have to admit, I'm as excited to see him here, as much as I am the wonderful Jamie Dornan.

I'm rather hooked.

8/10.

Good Setup

A man is cruising along on a highway in Australia. It seems he is from Ireland (from his accent). He is singing to the radio, when a huge semi comes up behind him. It starts banging away from behind and no matter what he does, even off the road, he can't get away from the guy. He finally believe is safe when the truck comes off a side road and smashed into him. He wakes up in a hospital with total amnesia, that's where the story proceeds. We meed a Fargo-type cop, a heavy set woman, who is kind but a bit clueless. He is also aided by a woman at a diner where he goes when he finds the address in his pocket. There is an explosion right where he was sitting. We also meet a threatening guy with a beard who seems to be after him. An older couple at a motel help him negotiate some of his clues, backtracking. We are also introduced to a guy who is trapped in what appears to be a vehicle. There are some other clues, including a little stuffed koala bear. Lots to think about.

Well put together opener with hints of Fargo

First time I've seen Jamie Dornan (managed to miss/avoid 50 Shades). He does good work here, with a convincing real-world performance, exhibiting charm without smarm, and humour without slapstick. He's a solid hub around which some of the other actors give more eccentric performances that go just far enough to entertain and sustain interest in a Fargo-eske style without straying too far from the plausable; with likeable and friendly Australian stereotypes replacing the Canadian. I hope the series doesn't squander dramatic tension by venturing too much further into the surreal in the coming episodes, or exaggerating the more characterful performances. Looking forward to more of this Australian Fargo-light show, with additional grounded heft.

Episode 1

The Tourist is Jamie Dornan playing the unnamed 'Man.'

He is driving on the Australian Outback when a truck suddenly tries to drive him off the road. So far it is very much Steven Spielberg's Duel.

The Man manages to escape him but not for long. He wakes up in hospital not knowing who he is and why was someone trying to kill him.

When he later goes to a diner, it explodes. Someone is still trying to kill him.

Written by the Williams Brothers, the Australian location adds intrigue. There seems to be some dark humour here.

The Tourist shows more promise after the first episode. It looks more layered and you just know that some people befriending him are more involved.

A mix of "joy Ride" and "memento"
grlym-468498 April 2022
The movie starts off like the movie Joy Ride. Then drifts into this memento feel.

I like the gritty feel of it. But wish it was just a tad bit faster pace...not a lot. Just a bit

So far I am hooked enough that I want to see this through. But not so much that I'm watching episode 2 right away.

[7.1] Look into the koala's charcoal eyes!

Episode 1: Mid classy interesting events, gorgeous desertic outback sceneries, average to good acting, many lack of logic, as much suspense in it as a turtle eating lettuce leaves, it nevertheless is brightened by the presence and "deranged" charisma of Jamie Dornan, whose screen presence and menacing aura I've come to like since The Fall.

Intriguing

The only reason this episode scored a six for me is because I have been left intrigued. The acting is a shambles and the reactions by the cast, to the event are laughable.

Warning: Spoilers
So in the middle of a desert. Nothing around me for miles I was unable to see the massive truck that hit me straight on the side from the only other road that was near me for miles.

Mad that.

Acceptable opener - not ripping any trees up.

A passable opening episode, it defines the story outline, but moves at an injured snail's pace. All a bit middle-of-the-road with a decent hook at the end.
