Who gets the last laugh.

Eliza is employed by the noted Doctor Flint to solve a blackmail case, but this time Eliz has competition, a rival Private Investigator names Patrick Nash, who tries hard to discredit her.

I think this is one of the best episodes so far, I loved the main body of the story, and I loved the side story, that or Private investigator rival Patrick Nash.

I loved the many twists and turns, it showed a real spark of cleverness. I thought Fitzroy's story was great too, the pressure this guy is under from his father, I fear a sticky end is in store for him.

Eliza really does face all manner of male chauvinism throughout this episode, but naturally she rises above it all.

Felix Scott is terrific as Patrick Nash, he's suave, smug, and after this, he's going to want some revenge.

Always good to see Pal Aron, that man is ageing so well, such a nice actor, and still so handsome.

9/10.

A new complication for Miss Scarlet in the form of a rival PI
amorehl8 August 2023
A pharmaceutical firm is being blackmailed with the poisoning of their products by use of a rare plant, the Angel of Inferno. Eventually, they hire Miss Scarlet to investigate because they discover she has the lowest rates in town. This episode marks the first appearance of Felix Scott as rival private detective Patrick Nash. It livens things up nicely since Nash, although he is unscrupulous and has far superior resources, does have the good taste to appreciate Miss Scarlet's sleuthing abilities. In fact, he wants to hire her to work for him. She declines. She also has to deal with a reporter pitting her against Nash as to who will be the hero of his article. There are also deeper currents to the story, not immediately apparent.

In other storylines, poor inexperienced Detective Fitzroy (who was so happy in the filing room that he sang Gilbert & Sullivan while he worked) has been ordered back into the field by his heartless, brutal father, Police Commissioner Fitzroy. Adding insult to injury, his son is assigned not to the Duke but to the clueless Detective Phelps.

Lastly, Ivy continues her slow-moving romance with Barnabus Potts. Potts runs the mortuary and, to put it mildly, is not a fan of Miss Scarlet. So, of course, Miss Scarlet uses his liking for Ivy to her advantage.
