A follow-up to "Themis".

This is just one of many strange films from the DVD collection "Unseen Cinema: Early American Avant-Garde Film 1894-1941" and it's from Disc 3. A few years before, Dwinell Grant made a film called "Themis" and it was a lovely art film using geometric shapes. Well, he's back again with "Contrathemis" and this time he's got some geometric cutouts but there are also some curved shapes as well. It's all very arty and the sort of thing the average person would not enjoy but there is a certain hypnotic artsy quality about it that make it watchable. However, it is sad that the color film is so grainy and I assume this is due to the effects of age...or perhaps Grant intended this. Like "Themis", this one really defies giving it any sort of numerical score--just sit back instead and watch.
