The Business with The Feather.

Tom learns that his wife Alice has written a steamy romantic novel, and a successful one at that, Summer of Love seems likely to change the couple's lives.

It's a pretty good start, it's an interesting first episode, one designed to introduce the characters, set the tone, and give us an idea of the humour that's to follow.

It's amusing enough, I was expecting a straight laced, typical eighties britcom, and there are elements, but it veers a little more on the comedy farce side of things, definitely shades of Duty Free I thought.

I really liked Tom Brooke Taylor's character and performance, he did a good job at making Tom a real stress head, Diane Keen was very good of course as Alice, very beautiful.

It's a safe start, an amiable watch, 6/10.

My Wife the Author

Warning: Spoilers
'Tom Hammond' ( the late, much-missed Tim Brooke-Taylor ) comes home from work to find his wife 'Alice' ( Diane Keen ) with a waspish woman - 'Miranda Shaw' ( the late and equally much-missed Sheila Steafel ) - and a pile of books on the kitchen table. Alice has penned a steamy book called 'Summer Of Love' and it looks certain to be a runaway bestseller. Tom reads it and is shocked. He thinks Alice must be having an affair...

Following the demise of 'The Goodies', Tim found himself doing conventional sitcoms. Prior to this, he was in the Richard O'Sullivan series 'Me And My Girl', written by Colin Bostock-Smith, who also wrote this. The role of 'Tom' really could have been played by anyone. It does not make the same comic demands on him as his 'Goodies' role. As for Diane Keen, her previous sitcom roles were in 'The Cuckoo Waltz' and 'Rings On Their Fingers', so its a moot point whether or not her career took an upward or downward turning point with this show. On the plus side, Steafel is superb as Miranda. She looks like a black widow spider in human form. The show attracted a hostile response from the press. One facetious critic asked if Tom and Alice lived next door to Terry and June.

Funniest moment - Tom's reaction to reading Alice's book. He gets no lines and does not need them because his face perfectly conveys how he feels.
