A promising start
Resi-Novak8 July 2009
The characters at this point seem a bit cookie cutter. The free spirited funny guy. The uptight, all business hot chick and the zany sidekick. Im sure they will develop as the series goes on.

The story and basis of the show seems a bit off the wall at first, and it is, but it works (at least in the pilot) A very intriguing story that is delivered well. The episode, though a bit long, kept me involved and entertained the whole way through. By the end i honestly cared about what happened with the story and the characters.

A very promising start to what could turn out to be a good series. Im sure the next few episodes will give us all a better idea of what this will turn out to be, and with Allison Scagliotti joins along with the cast, im willing to bet thats gonna add that much more to the show.

Fun introduction
ctomvelu115 July 2009
Two Secret Service agents screw up a D.C. situation involving the president, and are reassigned to a mysterious government warehouse in the South Dakota Badlands. The warehouse contains thousands of objects that need to be kept out of people's hands, as each object possesses a power, and not a nice power. The two agents are sent to Iowa for their assignment, to retrieve an object that is causing a nice, normal guy to become increasingly violent. Turns out it's an old Italian book of some sort, with a secret hidden inside. The agents mus retrieve the book and keep people from dying. Sounda a bit grim, but actually the show is liberally laced with humor, as the agents stumble through their first assignment. They are not exactly on the bet of terms with one another, and the female, who is very high-strung, absolutely does not want to be in South Dakota. The show is a loose cross between X-FILEs and the Friday THE 13TH TV series, with lots of silliness thrown in for good measure. Their boss at the warehouse is a quirky little guy played by the wonderful Sauk Rubinek. While not exactly Mulder and Sculley, the duo is fun to watch in action. A promising start for a new series from the people who gave us EUREKA, if I'm not mistaken.

Lots of Mysteries

I reckon it's pretty good so far. I like the characters so far, with some cool action. Feels like X-Files like everyone says, however someone here says it's a Librarians rip off. Pretty difficult as this show started 2009 finished 2014. Librarians 2014-2018. I reckok this is more serious than The Librarians and less childish but still great for the whole family.

Did Very Well For Being the First

Shows like "Warehouse 13" on channels like SyFy have an uphill battle and I think this pilot rose to the challenge.

Since they don't have the luxury of having 20-23 shows each seasson to "explore", things have to run at an accellerated pace. Being a new series, what the pilot did was take some time to lay the groundwork of what the warehouse is, what and how to handle artifacts, who controls it, who already works for it, establish the location, give some backstory to the 2 new agents, and then have a "regular" episode...all of this put into 90 minutes.

As I said, it's an uphill battle they face and I think they did well enough to make us want to come back and see more.

Warning: Spoilers
A couple of Secret Service agents are assigned to a mysterious warehouse in South Dakota by the also mysterious Mrs. Frederic. It seems the warehouse, a vast complex, is where odd and dangerous artifacts from around the world and throughout time are stored and guarded to prevent them from getting into the wrong hands. The two leads who spar at the beginning of the episode but, of course, start to become friends by the end of the episode were played by actors not known to me but they did a good job. I had heard of and long admired CCH Pounder and Saul Rubinek and although I prefer the Rubinek character, the Pounder character is convincingly forbidding and intriguing. I found the X Files unwatchable but found this show (at least the pilot) to be entertaining and exciting. Also with just enough comedy ala The Librarian movies (a series of movies I much enjoyed). A good start to a refreshing new series.

A solid opening to this fun series

Warning: Spoilers
As this pilot episode opens US Secret Service agents Myka Bering and Pete Lattimer are involved in the protection of the president when he visits a Washington museum. Something strange happens when a museum curator cuts his hand on an ancient Aztec stone head; he later pulls a knife which he holds to Bering's neck. Meanwhile Lattimer sees blood on the stone head and thinks something is very wrong. He grabs it but soon after is shot by a strange man, armed with some sort of energy weapon, who takes the head. Some over the two agents are approached separately and told to report to a facility in the South Dakota Bad Lands. Here they find a warehouse that is run by Artie Nielsen, the man who took the head. He explains that this is Warehouse 13; the repository for items that have unexplained powers… it will be their job to find such items. They are not happy with the assignment but get involved with a case involving a college student who attacked his girlfriend… nothing obviously strange but Artie believes it is linked to an artefact… sure enough when they interview him he starts to speak medieval Italian before attacking them! After that things start getting even weirder.

This feature length pilot episode does a fine job of introducing the protagonists and the basic idea of the show. Bering and Lattimer contrast nicely; as it is explained she was selected for her matter of fact eye for detail and he for his natural intuition. Joanne Kelly and Eddie McClintock have a good chemistry in these roles; this develops nicely throughout the episode. Saul Rubinek is a lot of fun as Artie and CCH Pounder does a fine job as the mysterious Mrs Irene Frederic, the woman who transferred our protagonists to the warehouse. The various item we see are interesting, and on one case bizarre. There are a couple of moderately scary moments but nothing too extreme. The special effects may be fairly obvious CGI but they are decent enough. Overall this was an impressive opener that left me keen to watch further episodes.

Silly X-Files and The Librarian's Rip-off
claudio_carvalho19 August 2010
The Secret Agents Pete Lattimer and Myka Bering are assigned to protect an exposition in Washington D.C., but they fail and a rare Aztec stone is stolen. However, they are individually assigned to a matter of national security by the mysterious Mrs. Irene Frederic and they meet each other in a warehouse in South Dakota, the Badlands. They are welcomed by the clumsy Arthur "Artie" Nelson that shows thousand of artifacts stored to protect mankind against their powers. Pete and Myka travel to Iowa to investigate the reason why the law student Cody Thomas has beaten his girlfriend Emily Krueger. Cody speaks in an ancient Italian with the agents and sooner they discover that a jewel that belonged to Lucrecia Borgia is affecting Cody and his godmother Lorna Soliday.

"Warehouse 13 – Pilot" is a silly "X-Files" and "The Librarian"'s rip- off. Pete Lattimer and Myka Bering are agents in charge of mysterious cases like Mulder and Scully and the Warehouse 13 collects powerful and magical objects like the library in "The Librarian". In the end, I did not see anything special in this pilot. My vote is five.
