the thrill
Kirpianuscus10 April 2021
The cold thrill. This was , in my case, the gift of this short film about a boy, his toys, a broken wardrobe and the fury of a drunken father. A powerful film giving, in two minutes, the heart of so many sad slices of childhoods. I admit, for me it is a pure masterpiece for each clue, for the music and for extraordinary intensity of story. And, sure, especially, for the broken closet.

The enemy at home

Warning: Spoilers
While this short is quite brief, it surely drives the point home.

The animation might be nothing spectacular, but it does not detract of its emotional impact.

For me, the most memorable aspect is when the dad arrives, he almost looks like a goofy, comical character from a movie for kids.

Yet, as his expression slowly turns menacing, said impression is gone, becoming a real, tragic reality many children actually have to face to this very day, something way scarier than any fictional monster.

Him crushing the superhero toy basically establishes how he is going to destroy the innocence and the joy of his own son.

The sudden end, with the kid being found by his drunk father was honestly a downer. We know what is about to happen next and there isn't any escape from that in real life, even if the short stops at that point.
