"Alf Stewart is the best friend I've ever had"
skteosk2 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
It's difficult to assess this one.The 4000th episode sees an awful lot of old characters turn up...well, actually most of them were there already because there's too many to fit into one episode. As it is, Sarah's basically a non-speaking extra, while Barbara doesn't seem to say anything either and the fact she was last heard of in prison for trying to murder Donald(who doesn't react to her presence at all)is quietly ignored.

There's time for some nice character moments in the middle of all this though:Duncan and Mitch get a moment together, Will and Hayley have a quick catch-up, Sophie and Blake are reunited after their abrupt off screen split, Celia gets to annoy Morag...The speeches go on a bit too long but Don and Sally's in particular are effective.A lengthy clips sequence manages to straddle the line between nostalgia and irrelevance and it's nice to see a few glimpses of old character.

Oddly, though, it still tries to be an ordinary episode of Home and Away, with Troy's brief appearance and that cliffhanger moment, with the contrived non-explanation for Ric being in the car when he lives at the house they've just left. It's something of an odd note to go out on.
