This is a very tough film and I don't advise very young kids to watch it. However, it's great for teens or anyone dealing with domestic violence. Heck, I see it as almost required viewing for anyone who begins dating--particularly if they are Catholic or otherwise religious.
The story purports to be based on a true case, and if that's so, then I really would hate to be in the priest's shoes at judgment day! That's because again and again, a young wife comes to the priest for help--her husband is beating her severely. Yet, no matter how savage it gets, he keeps telling her to have more faith and to work harder to make the man happy!!! What an unfeeling idiot and not once does he offer her anything but platitudes and recriminations for thinking about leaving the bum!! Ultimately, how the film ends is something you'll need to see for yourself. Just keep some Kleenex nearby--it's a tough but exceptionally well made film to watch.
