The Joss Whedon TV series "Firefly" ran for a single season on Fox. It never really had a chance for a successful run on network television; the episodes were run out of order, and three were left unaired. Despite this, enough people loved the show and bought the DVD box set that Universal Pictures gave a green light to a follow-up film, "Serenity."
"Firefly" is set hundreds of years in the future, in a world where humans had to leave Earth and colonize space. Powerful people run the more advanced planets, but those who wanted their freedom, fought (and lost) a war over it. Those rebels are now scattered through the wilderness of space, settling into a sort of wild west existence. The series tells the tale of a small band of people including two former military fighters-turned-smugglers, a pilot, a criminal, a Shepard (a religious figure like a pastor...

Why are we as geeks so excited about alternative posters for films? Don't get me wrong, I get it because I get just excited as you guys when we post some random alternative poster for a film...but why is that? While How Stuff Works doesn't necessarily give an answer, it does provide some insight to the phenomena and why it's profitable for companies like Dark Hall Mansion and Mondo to continue making these posters! Plus they talk to Tom Whalen, who's like, the alternative poster art god.
Now I want to buy a poster:...

For Terrence Malik’s latest experimental film, Knight of Cups, Christian Bale is set to play Rick, a man in possession of everything and yet nothing. One who constantly chases after the next big thing as a screenwriter, yet yearns for something to paper over the crippling emptiness in his life. It’s a intriguing paradox for a lead character, and one that is illustrated to wonderful effect in today’s new poster for the film.
Turning Rick’s world upside-down in every sense of the word, the one-sheet arrives by way of Fandango, and is stylized in the vein of a tarot card. While they’re often associated with spiritual readings and impending doom, tarot cards are said to be “powerful sources of information [that] come from within; the Tarot aids in coming in contact with one’s Higher Self.” At least, that’s according to How Stuff Works.

Certain stories become part of the fabric of us. We see them or hear them at the right point in our life and we absorb them. I’m part of the generation who never lived in a world without “Star Wars”. I’m part of the generation who knows Han Solo shot first and has always been okay with it because we understood he wasn’t one of the good guys when he started out with the intrepid crew.
When the prequel trilogy arrived, I was young enough to be excited, but old enough to be wary. I didn’t hate them, because they gave me pieces of a story I’d grown up knowing existed. It was backstory, but it was backstory I recognized as important in the scheme of my understanding of how “Star Wars” works. There were pieces of it I detested, certainly, the thing that upset...
