VIEWS ON FILM review of Project Solitude
burlesonjesse52 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
2009's Project Solitude feels at times like it could be an art film or something a la the Lifetime network (probably because Eric Roberts stars and has been in so many of them). That's a screw loose combination and there were moments where a smidgen of it actually worked. "Solitude" is also one of those familiar slasher flick types where a bunch of people are in the middle of nowhere and get picked off by a would-be, whodunit killer. "All of us will get our hands dirty". Sigh, blah blah blah.

Project Solitude is directed by Rustam Branaman, a dude who probably thought he could get away with not hiring a good script supervisor, not hiring an expert on blood squibs, and not hiring an editor who could trim his film to create more tension. Scenes linger too long with the unlikable characters almost veering into camp. Murders that happen are blase, bloodless, and cut way too quickly. Finally, "Solitude" is so anti-climatic and predictable you feel like it almost ceases to exist. A "gotcha" final clip that suspends reality doesn't make things any more sapid.

Filmed in Green Bay, Wisconsin of all places and making 96 minutes feel longer than it should, Project Solitude is about a professor (Roberts as John Sola) who brings a group of millennials out to the woods for a human experiment on survival and jurisdiction. He will pay them handsomely if they wade out the terms of said experiment. The problem is that everyone keeps getting offed by arrows and choking and other means of demise. Yeah Roberts gives a decent performance as you haphazardly try to see the wheels turning in his head. The other actors, well they come off as paperweight dolts in a world full of Blair Witch take off. Weak "project" management.

I want my money back!!

I will say it again, I want my money back!!! Having scanned my cable provider's offerings in the realms of horror and thrillers, I had seen many of the ones listed, but wanting to watch something eerie, I scrolled through their list of horrors and looked up any on here that caught my eye before ordering. This movie came up, so I looked on here. No reviews, but a pretty good rating on the star meter. Though there were only a few ratings I thought maybe I would give it a try. It did have one well known actor, Eric Roberts. I figured it couldn't be that bad. WOW, was I wrong. I am just disappointed that I can't rate it lower than 1 star. I assume the inflated star rating and only a handful of people rating it was the result of people who were involved in the movie trying to boost it's rating. Absolutely every aspect of this movie was bloody awful. It really looked like a high school film class project, starring the students. It looked like it was filmed using the video camera in a cell phone. Ahhh, so frustrated that I paid to watch this. I could go on and on, but won't. Please do yourself a favour and don't get screwed into paying for this like I did. If you get to watch it free somewhere, then maybe, but please, put your money to something else, anything else.

10 LITTLE INDIANS
nogodnomasters28 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the worse who-dun-it, 10 little Indian type movie I have ever seen. Eric Roberts is a bad hair college professor who has hired a bunch of losers to go into the snowy woods for an experiment where a tragedy is staged and everyone must rely on one person. We get to see two other characters. One is Kitty, a waitress who cuts her leg with a knife and the other is a religious pagan who paints his face red and howls at the moon. The rest of the group we see glimpses of from their interviews. The movie was too short and poorly written to build all their characters with possible motives so it narrowed it down to a Scooby-Doo mystery.

Once in the woods and cut off from civilization, the adult campers start to act like kids. One by one the campers are killed. But gosh, who can possibly be the killer in an Eric Roberts movie? Yawn.

This was a poorly written script. There is some blood, but not as much as a slasher film. Tense scenes? Heck, we didn't even see the first person die, just the body lying in the snow being sniffed at by a lone wolf, not ripped to shreds by a pack of wolves, but sniffed at by a wolf. I did have to laugh at Eric Roberts hair, but that wasn't worth the price of a rental. Low budget bomb.

F-bomb, no nudity, adult situations.

Great Film -- A Unique Indie Thriller!
tomalley2k17 February 2012
I truly appreciated the details of this movie from beginning to end. It's incredible how engaged I found myself throughout every scene. I had low expectations before watching this, simply because I had never heard of it before. For me, the whole trapped in the woods with killers thing will never get tired, as long as there are films like this with original writing and genius plot twists. Of course, it doesn't hurt that it stars Eric Roberts, a truly brilliant and often haunting actor. The rest of the cast was surprisingly great. Their performances were emotional and carried exceptional depth, especially for a movie in this genre. The music, editing and tempo were all spot on as well. The only reason I give an 8/10 is to motivate the producers to get working on a sequel!

Great horror movie!
novoselac28 May 2015
My girlfriend and I watched this movie on the TV last night. Not seen it before, and we absolutely loved it. It's a good B or even C level psychological thrillers which I think these ones are better than big budget Hollywood ones because the Hollywood big budget movies are always so predictable but these smaller indie movies you don't know anything that's going to happen. Acting is decent considering I didn't know most of the actors. Eric Roberts was one of the reason we choose to watch this movie and he is great in his role of the professor who conducts the experiment. I highly recommend this horror flick to anyone who loves this genre!
