Payal nailed it with her performance and the other cast did too... But the BGM keeps you engaged.. Awesome screenplay and filmography was good set up in 1980's.. Worth a watch... 😍😍

Story is Complete copy from One of the Top series in Doordarshan - Ek Kahani
cnumanur17 April 2021
This is from 1980's, during my childhood, when a TV Series used to be run on Doordarshan with the Title- Ek Kahani, in which folk tales of different regions used to be telecast.
This particular story: Anaganaga O Athidhi (described as a remake of a Kannada movie in the press and several reviews), is in fact a ditto copy from one of the stories from the Doordarshan series Ek Kahaani from 1980's. As I remember, it might have been either from a background of Rajasthan or Gujarat based story, where, the Son returns to the family after many many years.
In the original story the family gives shelter to the travellers who stop by in the nights as a stop over. The family never takes money originally from them but as time goes, they become greedy for money and start killing those who stop by and loot them. The last kill is of their son.

Story :
Mallika(Payal Rajput) is a small-town girl who is going through a financial crisis along with her family. This is also the time she comes to know that her fortunes are going to change through an astrologer. As time passes, a person named Sreenivas(Chaitanya Krishna) visits their home and changes things around. Then starts a game of lust, cheat, and cruelness. Who is this Srinivas? Why did he come there? and what changes happen in Mallika's life? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points :
The film is based on Payal Rajput and the twists and turns related to her character and the way they are unleashed look quite good in the second half. Payal Rajput makes a U-turn from her glam avatar and does extremely well. Her role needed a lot of various expressions of greed, lust, deceit, and Payal portrayed them supremely well. All her scenes with Chaitanya Krisha are quite good.
Coming to Chaitanya Krishna, he is a very talented actor and gets a good role in this film. Be it his look or the way he portrays his role, Chaitanya was quite impressive. He is a very talented actor and it will be good to see him in varied roles in the days to come.
The supporting cast was also good in their parts. The underlying message about money and how it spoils your life has been showcased well in the film by director Padbanabham.
Minus Points :
The film takes a lot of time to get to its main point. The pace is slow and the makers also fail to establish the real intention of the characters correctly. All this is done to create a suspense angle in the film but it does not work initially. So much build-up is given to each character and that was not needed at all.
The conflict point has not been established well in the film and more scenes could have been showcased to make things intense.
Technical Aspects :
The film is quite high on technical aspects. The film is made on a very low budget but you will not get that feeling at all. The visuals are rich and special mention should go to the cameraman Rakesh for his work. The background score is also pretty good and keeps the proceedings up. Village-based dialogues are good and the production design and set work were good.
Coming to the director Padmanabhan, he has done just an ok job. His vision and story idea is good but his execution was just passable. He takes a lot of time to establish the main conflict and narrates the film in a slow manner. But he nicely ends the film as well. Verdict :- ok first half and best second half. Give it a try you will be amazed.

Slow thriller slow killer
i_lalindra5 September 2021
The film is a successful attemt in thriller category. Cinematography and music at exceptional level. Payal Rajput as the leading role giving lots of energy to the movie.
The movie revolves around a remote family digging their own graves due to uncontrolable desires and greedy mind set.
Mallika, the leading role wanted to fullfill her desires one way or another. So eventually she falls for her last option, dragging her mom and dad side by side. But what leaves them at end is a real surprise tragedy.
No unnecessary dragging of the story. So each scene is relavant to the movie and flawing it so dramatic. It is a slow thriller which convert the innocent protogonist in to slow killer.

Khan Review - Remake of hindi parallel movie of 80's.
zkzuber22 November 2022
This is complete copy of one hindi parallel cinema movie telecast on doordarshan which did not get theatrical release. In 80's there were film made as art & parallel cinema which hardly got any theatrical releases. There were changes made which did damage the movie logically. In hindi version it was only father & mother but this version has unmarried sister which completely spoils the show. A unmarried sister is getting attracted to a man who in fact is her brother. Any person in reality if gets hint that such situation is arising will immediately confess that he is in fact her brother rather than keeping it as a secret and planning to again leave the family whom he met after fifteen years. This element was added to make it saleable by having a female presence as lead actress in the movie but it back fires. Over all the movie is time pass as a entertainer, all actors did good job but still because of illogical story it looses the credibility.
Outstanding

Good watch...
hcukumar22 November 2020
1. Village nativity, dialogues, and costumes are good.
2. Payal, Chaitanya and other supporting cast gave a decent performance
3. Looks like a theatre play is adapted into a movie. And the adaptation is reasonably good.
4. Camera work is very good.
Definitely a good watch.
Definitely a good watch.
There's No Fire In This Remake Of Kannada Thriller Aa Karaala Ratri

Warning: Spoilers
Anaganaga O Athidhi opens with the scene of a burning house. The narrator (Tanikella Bharani), whom we only hear, rambles on about the various boundaries that people cross regularly to satisfy their inner greed. There are also other emotions behind their actions, but greed, perhaps, serves as the driving force to achieve them. Undoubtedly, this is the best part of the film since everything that appears after this point falls like a house of cards.
