A new Pixar short in the Cars Toon series will premiere on the Disney Channel on July 30th at 9:30pm. The latest of Mater's tall tales is titled Monster Truck Mater. More information after the jump. Directed by John Lasseter and co-director Rob Gibbs (a Pixar storyartist on Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Up and co-director of the Cars Toon short Tokyo Mater) featuring music by Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh (who is best known for his original music in Wes Anderson's films, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs). The official synopsis follows: "Mater is a professional wrestler who works his way up the ranks from amateur to World Champion Monster Truck Wrestler, wrestling all kinds of characters along the way. When faced with his biggest opponent yet, Mater tags in his “tag team partner,” Frightening McMean." A short clip from Monster Truck...

John Lasseter is a big fan of the Cars franchise for some reason. It might have something to do with that little thing called Cars-Land opening up at Disney's California Adventure around the same time as Cars 2 comes out (coincidence!) or maybe the dude just like the characters. After all, he did direct the short Tokyo Mater, which was pretty clever. The sequel to Cars, curiously called Cars 2 instead of "Cars: New Model Same Old 'Tude" or "Cars: Auto-ld You There'd Be A Sequel" was running into some story potholes. Not a big deal since every single Pixar movie has growing pains. Lasseter was reportedly taking a personal interest in the sequel and spending a lot of time on it, leading us to believe that he would be back to direct it. Disney announced at their Holiday Showcase Event that Lasseter is officially co-directing Cars 2 with Brad Lewis.

BT ("The Fast and the Furious"), a prominent composer of dance and electronic music, scored the episode. In the episode entitled "Tokyo Mater," a routine towing assignment lands Mater in Tokyo where he is challenged to a drift-style race against a nefarious gang leader and his posse of ninjas. With the help of his friend, "Dragon" Lightning McQueen, and some special modifications, Mater attempts to drift to victory and become...

Will the sequel to Pixar’s Cars be named Cars 2: World Grand Prix? It could be if Disney blog Jim Hill Media’s report is true.
Due out in June of 2011, Jhm is reporting that Disney has bought a few online domains which point to the new movie’s name:
* CARS2-worldgrandprix.Com * CARS2WORLDGRANDPRIX.Com * Carsworldgrandprix.Com * Worldgrandprix-movie.Com
The sequel to 2006’s hit, Cars, is believed to focus on Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) and Lightening McQueen (Owen Wilson) who are traveling abroad. Audiences got a taste of the international flavor in the short Tokyo Mater which was attached to Bolt last year.

Las Vegas -- Top executives from Sony and Disney called on hardware manufacturers at the Consumer Electronics Show on Thursday to step up cooperation with Hollywood given their shared interests in reaching consumers.
In separate keynote speeches, Sony chairman and CEO Howard Stringer and Disney-abc Television Group president Anne Sweeney emphasized the intertwined fortunes of showbiz and technology with regard to delivering simple user experiences on new content platforms.
Stringer told the Ces crowd that the first among seven key principles to connecting with consumers is acknowledging the blurring lines of entertainment and electronics. "We must accept this fusion is a reality," Stringer said.
The Sony boss proved his Hollywood bona fides with the help of high-powered friends he brought onstage. The company's two-hour presentation was bookended by an introduction from Tom Hanks, who brought along a trailer of his upcoming "Angels & Demons," and a closing musical performance from Usher.

Presumably in an effort to boost Bolt’s box office take, Disney is giving those still holding out a new reason to check out the 3D release—the first ever 3D Pixar short. Beginning today, prints of Bolt will begin with “Tokyo Mater,” an all-new 3D animated short. Directed by Pixar founder and Chief Creative Officer of Disney animation John Lasseter, Tokyo Mater is tale of how Mater, gets challenged to a race and becomes the drifting king of Tokyo after towing a stranded car to Japan Owen Wilson and the late Paul Newman (who gave voice to Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson in the 2006 film) have been replaced with sound-alike actors, but fear not—our star is once again voiced by Larry the Cable Guy. Although Cars is on many lists as the least-enjoyed of Pixar’s library—it’s still of great interest to sneak a peak at...
