Ernest Greene scored a hit with his first adaptation of "The Story of O', but this followup with Bree Olson replacing Carmen Luzana plays more like a remake than a further development of the story and characters. I'll be checking out the 3rd installment to see if Dungeonmaster Greene regains his balance.
Scoring 100% on the "I'll do any kinky thing you ask" meter, Bree is unfortunately not up the role's acting requirements. Her line readings are flat, histrionics unconvincing, but she does have a perfect body and visually approximates Luvana to a T.
Many principal characters return, notably bad-boy brothers Evan Stone and Tommy Gunn, and the mastermind behind everything, Greene's better half -hall- of-fame superstar Nina Hartley got up in weird outfits as a chipper dominatrix.
Running over 3 hours, the BDSM saga offers little drama, merely reunions with Tommy and Evan and some relatively sentimental (in context) reminiscing with Evan, culminating in him whipping out that bling of a ring for O that seemingly was rejected forever by Luvana in Part 1.
Greene lays off of the philosophy and proselytizing about the submissive life style, making Part 2 less bombastic and far more about the sex rather than the justification of the sex acts. A wise crack like "Freedom is deciding whose slave you want to be" turns the preaching into almost a joke this time around. Greene does remain capable of a good line when needed, as in Evan's satisfying analogy "You left me with marks that I never could get rid of" as he sums up the psychological damage caused by O running out on him last time. This line resonates especially well because Olson's scene-stealing co-star Kayden Kross appears in the last half of the film with very realistic looking red scars on her breast courtesy of the makeup artistes.
Reflecting the Adult industry's movement away from feature films to "hot sex vignettes" a trend that is only accelerating in the current streaming-content era, SURRENDER OF O becomes a collection of stimulating, standalone set-pieces, which cumulatively have the effect of making the central O character almost superfluous in her own movie. Two such examples stick out: mainstream & lesbian porn star Trinity Post is fabulous being manhandled by Marco Banderas and a veteran porn actor named just "Jerry", with her extended d.p.'s in unusual positions a classic of that type of sex, especially so well-photographed by vet Ralph Parfait. The series' rope lady Claire Adams also gets in a bit of soft-core sex action with Post when she meticulously displays her prowess tying up Post's legs and torso with red twine.
Equally impressive is a lengthy threesome Evan has with lesbians in fetish gear and bondage trappings and glass butt plug, led by Mika Tan. Nicole Sheridan (almost unrecognizable thanks to stellar efforts by the hairdressing and makeup departments), Bobbi Starr and Ava Rose are also extremely sexy in a strong supporting cast. Starr evidently impressed the director so much that he cast her in the role of O in the concluding segment of the trilogy.
Special credits are given to Syren for providing the latex gear worn in the feature, and it is striking. I get the impression that if Diana Rigg had been outfitted by Syren for "The Avengers" in the '60s that show would still be running on ABC.
