Better Than Your Average Hallmarkish Movie
johne-559523 August 2021
So this isn't in the running for an academy award so I think its only fair to compare it to the movies you'd find on Hallmark or UP channels. Personally I think it is quite a bit above average in that category, mostly because of the very talented cast. It starts out rough and I was afraid I was in for a Tyler Perry crap movie but it got better quickly and I found myself pleasantly surprised.

The acting is quite good and the singing/music is excellent (much better than anything you would find in a Hallmarkish film), The lead actress is particularly talented and her supporting actors ain't bad either. The plot is same old same old but the dialog was fairly well done. Scenery was very pretty--a nice break from western Canada.

Crack a beer. Sit back and enjoy the music and the pretty people er I mean scenery. Not the worst way to spend 90 minutes.

NICE MOVIE
colbertadrian4 August 2021
Christina Milian is so radiant thru the entire movie, we know this is assembly line romantic comedy, but Christina Milian! Lol yea she looks THAT good, beautiful island scenery, good music, what I did like about it that separates it from other similar comedies is that it's not over the top silly, they develop the story and the characters really good and fast, the only thing I didn't like was the ending, but no spoilers here, check it out, Christina Milian! Lol.

As good/bad as the other travel based rom coms, if you like Hallmark type movies you would probably like this one
j_co3 August 2021
The music is nice, but there is nothing special about this movie, another one in the assembly Netflix line.

The siblings part of the plot is a bit creepy and the mother/sister comedic relief seems unnecessery, but it's an OK movie.

Even though the movie is not amazing, it is good to see a Hallmark type movie with POC.

"They" will continue to hate, but this film will be well worth your time! Christina Milian looks as beautiful as ever and does a wonderful job in this romantic comedy.

This movie isn't a bad as you think, I've actually found myself chuckling through it, it's a fun movie! You can't expect every movie to be a Hollywood blockbuster. Tourism at this place is definitely going to get a good bump up, place looks amazing!

Better than expected
andreealauraguta30 July 2021
It was better than expected with some cringe worthy moments. My standard for the movie was not very high from the begginning so I was a little surprised that I enjoyed it. Nice, easy , without any conflicts or unexpected moments.

Resort to Love
Prismark1013 August 2021
Resort to Love is really a Hallmark type romance made for Netflix.

However Netflix money means that the film has been shot on location in Mauritius. Pretty useful to have a bit of a travelogue when the entire world is in some form of a Covid lockdown.

Erica (Christina Milian) is heartbroken. She has been ditched by her fiance Jason. Her hopes to launch a music career in New York has also been dashed.

A friend helps Erica out by getting her a singing gig in a high class hotel resort in Mauritius. Only to find that Jason is in the same hotel to get married.

His bride to be hits it off with Erica without knowing that she is Jason's ex. Erica also takes a shine to Jason's hunky brother Caleb.

It's a pretty light and predictable plot. There seems to be little chemistry between the actors. The comedy was clumsy, the songs were ok.

It was just nice to see Mauritius on screen and reminiscent to better times when I visited the place.

It was cute!
charmtrest31 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm glad i finished the movie because the first 5 mins was rough. The acting was a little too dramatic but it got better. Was it cheesy and predictable, yeah! But I'm always a sucker for a romcom. However, I don't believe for one second that in real life a brother would fall for an ex- fiancé and everybody would be cool with it?? I cringe at being attracted to a sibling's significant other... a friend...ehh maybe.. but that's just me. I like Christina and the brotha was fione!! It was a cute movie.

Stiff and formulaic
Calicodreamin29 July 2021
Resort to Love fell short of expectations, the dialogue was stiff, the cast had no chemistry, and the storyline terribly predictable.

Beautiful people. Beautiful setting. Good story. Flowed well. Funny, also emotional. Great performances. Christina Milian - so beautiful, as always. Great music and singing. A feel-good movie that makes you smile. Who doesn't want that - to feel happy.

Quirky and New
Tri-State_Skater6 August 2021
It was cute. A little stiff at times, probably because the actors probably don't get storylines like this a lot. I'm sure the budget wasn't too steep as well.

It's a romance film you can watch with your Mom or Grandma. Everyone stays pure.

I'm white and I really like to support movies with plots about minority characters going through things that usually happen to white characters. It was a nice breathe of fresh air in that respect.

I recommend it to anyone. Girls or guys. It's whimsical yet realistic at the same time.

B grade, but good B grade
OneKat18 October 2021
A B grade rom-com. A wedding singer gets a job at a holiday resort. Guess who's getting married there? Her ex-fiance, the one she's still not over.

It's okay. It will make you laugh, but I probably won't remember watching this movie next week.

Better than expected. Very Good !!!

Resort to love is a 2021 romantic comedy. Erica ends up as the entertainment at her Ex fiancé s wedding after reluctantly taking a gig at a luxurious island resort in the wake of a music career meltdown. I was really surprised how good this film was. Was really entertaining to watch. The storyline was different to other movies and was done extremely well. Very well directed. The acting was good Christina Milian is brilliant in this role this is what she is good at plus the singing. The movie has beautiful scenery to. A lovely light heart film to watch has comedy, romance and music what more you could you ask for a perfect feel good movie. Ignore the low score and reviews this was a good film and I really enjoyed it. Get comfy on the sofa and watch Resort to love it will lift you up. Currently streaming on Netflix right now get watching.

Clearly loses its focus
Entertainmentsparadise10 August 2021
Imagine your significant other leaves you before you get married, and now a year later you are forced to sing at their wedding! Awkward right?

Awkward is the best way to describe this loose plot. The pain and character growth of Erika (Christina Milan) being active in her ex's (Jay Pharaoh) wedding is as painful as it comes, yet the side love story element with her ex's older brother(Sinqua Walls) seemed unnecessary when it's treated like a side dish. The film seemed like it lost focus, they flirt from afar with the romantic element but it just doesn't stick; With more than enough musical scenes and a weak comical element to the genre of 'Rom-Com'.

The Musical scenes weren't forced but there were plenty and the film is casted well.

Verdict:

Not the best rom com out there, because the plot isn't strong, doesn't delver a compelling love story more like triumphed mature overcoming story after a break up. If need a cheesy movie to pass the time then check it out. If you are die hard rom-com fan, it may not meet your standards.

Better than Falling Inn Love
lisafordeay29 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Forme singer Christina Millan teams up with Jay Pharaoh for another Netflix film. Here she plays Erica a singer songwriter who is devastated that her ex fiance Jason (Pharaoh)left her a month prior to their wedding.

Things take a drastic turn when she gets a gig at a posh resort for a wedding singer and meets a handsome guy named Callum, little does she know that he is the younger brother of Jason who left her who also happens to be staying at the resort with his new fiancé as they are planning the wedding at the resort.

Will Erica and her ex Jason get back together or will she end up falling in love with her ex fiancé's brother Callum.

Overall it was a very predictable film but what can you expect romantic comedies are cliché and predictable. If you love rom coms do check it out.

Unfortunate
gayatrikmr30 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Terrible themes in this movie. SO regressive. "Spoilers"

The women wronged in the movie CONSTANTLY apologizing to a manipulative MAN who:

1) did not apologize to Erica for walking out on her 2) did not apologize to his fiancé for lying to her/keeping Erica a secret 3) not standing up to his mom for calling his to be wife a siren call. In fact fiance apologized for "over reacting" and being "cranky".

Wtf Netflix?! Women and young girls should not told/reinstated the regressive point they need to he apologizing to men for the mess that men make.

Better than the typical formulaic rom-com
brochite-346-1672573 August 2021
I was tempted to rate the movie a 6/10, which is the top score I'll give any successful, feel-good rom-com. The decision to add the extra star really had to do with the writing. It was a bit better than the average movie of this genre.

In particular, there was lots of room to go negative in a movie like this, where the main characters withheld the truth and had to come clean. The writers found a mature way to resolve the dilemmas, while keeping the comedy fresh.

In an ironic way, less drama made for a better movie!

Expected more, didn't make sense
andreas-521-55920731 July 2021
Had to re-activate my account. Was hoping for something in line with Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Instead this rom-com follows a cast who lacks logical motivation and/or reaction to events.

With the ex-fiancé being such an idiot, most of the characters just come of as dumb, and not in the loving way of other movies that came before.

Don't recommend.
