'The Pink Panther' "Pinkadilly Circus" (1968)
Opening thoughts: A vast majority of the previous Pink Panther cartoons are very good and more. The best of them being classics, 'The Pink Phink' and 'The Pink Tail Fly' immediately springing to mind. 'Pinkadilly Circus' is to me one of the series' best and funniest. If anybody has never seen this or a Pink Panther cartoon, and is doubting DePatie-Freleng Enterprises' appeal from watching Crazylegs Crane or Tijuana Toads, 'Pinkadilly Circus' is a good example of why the studio shouldn't be met with too much scorn.
Good things: Everything works. For one thing, the animation is very true to most other Pink Panther cartoons, the style is simple but not overly-so while also clean and elegant. The music is equally great, the theme tune is a classic and rightfully so while the music in the cartoon itself has an upbeat, jazzy and catchy orchestration and style. The gags are clever and always never less than funny, the best of them are hilarious actually.
While the cartoon moves quickly and has a story that serves the characters well.
Pink is still appealing and oozes coolness, his comic timing as always is perfectly pitched. The Little White Guy is the sort of guy who proves a funny foil and sometimes, especially here, in a way that makes you feel for him and his predicament.
Closing thoughts: All in all, wonderful and up there with one of the Pink Panther's best.
10/10.
