Not as good as 'The Pink Phink' but still a lot of fun
The Pink Panther to me is one of animation's mot iconic characters. DePatie-Freleng Enterprises' output was very hit and miss, or at least post-1970 it was, especially the later theatrical series. With hits such as Pink Panther and the Ant and the Aardvark, and duds such as Crazylegs Crane. For me, The Pink Panther on the whole was the studio's best theatrical series, though The Inspector and Ant and the Aardvark ones come close. It did become very variable from the mid-70s onwards, but the 60s-early 70s output contained some of the studio's best work.
'Pink Pajamas' is the Pink Panther's second cartoon after 'The Pink Phink'. It is not as good as that cartoon, which is one of the best of the series in my view, and one half is better than the other. It is still a lot of fun though and a good representation of why Pink is wholly deserving of his iconic status and why his theatrical series is the most highly regarded and best known of DePatie-Freleng Enterprises' theatrical series. Which is true of most of the series' early cartoons.
It isn't perfect. The animation may be simplistic with some sparse backgrounds at times.
Also thought that the second half was nowhere near as funny as the first, everything with the AA rep is not as imaginative or as funny with a need of more variety.
Enough of the animation however is bright and colourful and Pink is well drawn. The music is still very catchy, being very jazzy and the main theme is infectious and instantly recognisable.
Much of the first is hilarious, energetic and creative, the ones with the shower and the lightbulb coming off best. The story is unoriginal but well paced with Pink Panther's situation is one that is very easy to identify with. Pink is effortlessly cool and is supported nicely.
In conclusion, very good and fun cartoon. 8/10.
