First of all an interesting historical journey: Zanzibar has been taken by the Sultanate of Oman in 1698 because it's a very good place for the trade of goods between Africa and Asia. We can see the Arabic and Indian influence in the old buildings of Stone Town (the famous Indian house doors for example), the ruins of palaces and mosques in Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia Island. Also we notice the Arabic influence in the music, the tarab coming from Egypt.
Then I enjoyed the agricultural part: the fields of several spices: cardamom, ginger, annatto, cloves and nutmeg: we can see how the villagers harvest and prepare the cloves. Besides we have seen a seaweed plantation: the leaves are dried and the powder is used as cosmetic. On the Mafia Island women are harvesting palm tree leaves to make prayer mats or decorative mats.
And of course we have see a lot of fishing boats, many fish markets on the beaches: also a boat carpenter making fishing boats with mango tree wood.
Also I enjoyed the pictures of the wildlife: Zanzibar red colobus in the Jozani National Park, then giant tortoises in the north of Zanzibar, the marine park with whale shark or the beaches of Mafia Island where a NGO is protecting the young marine tortoises.
