Starts off barely okay, but nosedives quickly.
Otkon23 March 2021
Yeah, the classroom bit was about it for anything intriguing. Then the whole Josh Peck as a "leading man" thing tanks it. The part at the cabin was high school drama club stuff. And the tacked-on work-at-home ending perhaps because of pandemic but also definitely because they ran out of money....unbelievably awful.

Save your brain. Literally do anything else with 90 minutes of your life.

Not a film but an anthology of four different shorts set in the same world
siderite8 April 2021
There are four low budget shorts, their quality varying, but the best of them is not good. I kept waiting for something to happen, but then it was either something underwhelming or the story ended abruptly. I liked the way the Doors were designed, especially in the first short. They could have taken that and made it a full feature with a story and it would have been good. Unfortunately other than the design it was all confusing and artsy while saying nothing clear. No closure, no actual action or agency, just "hey, this happened. The end".

What upset me most about this production is that both the Imdb description text and the trailer are failing to present this as a collection of short films. Instead you expect a full on movie with a lot of different storylines that somehow (they must, right?) connect to each other. But they don't! Neither do they reach any conclusion on their own.

Created by Christopher White, who has a thing for doors and portals.
ed-503-46518325 March 2021
White created a movie called Portals, released in 2019, and Doors follows the same formula. I liked Doors more than Portals. However, that isn't saying much. Neither film is very good. Both movies are a series of individual short stories. Each short story is written and directed by different people, using different actors in different situations involving the primary plot device. You guessed it, enigmatic doors and portals. I like this movie concept, but the finished product feels more like a film student's project. The script, acting, and production value just isn't there. Some of the acting and dialogue were almost painful to watch. By the time the credits rolled, I was disappointed. If you really want to see Doors, I certainly wouldn't pay extra to watch this movie.

Some doors should just never be opened...
paul_haakonsen26 April 2021
Right, well I must say that I was lured in to watching the 2021 sci-fi movie given the movie's cover/poster. It seemed fairly interesting, and I will admit that reading the movie's synopsis was the thing that made me want to watch it.

And I should just have put it back and left it alone. Wow, this movie was a massive swing and a miss from directors Saman Kesh, Jeff Desom and Dugan O'Neal.

The storyline was a heap of rubbish. I have to admit that I never really caught on to what this movie was about, aside from strange portals popping up around the world. But after that, the movie never made much sense, and it utterly failed to provide me with any level of entertainment. And believe you me, it was a massive struggle to sit through the ordeal that is known as "Doors".

This 2021 sci-fi movie had Chris White, Saman Kesh, Jeff Desom and Ed Hobbs as writers, and it just baffles me that four writers can collectively manage to elude delivering something entertaining and fulfilling.

I suppose the acting performances in "Doors" were adequate, but it was hard to focus on the actors and actresses in the movie, as I was literally struggling to find just an ounce of interest in the abysmal storyline. I wasn't familiar with anyone on the cast list, which is usually a good thing and something I enjoy, but in "Doors" I just couldn't connect with any of the characters, nor did I ever form any kind of interest or bond with any of them, as I simply just didn't care about it. They were not rooted in a profound storyline, as since nothing made sense here, why bother?

Usually I am not overly keen on sci-fi movies, and something like the 2021 movie "Doors" is the reason why I tend to not jump at every single sci-fi movie that I stumble upon.

Now, I am sure that there is an audience out there for a movie such as "Doors". I, however, wasn't part of that particular target audience.

I am rating "Doors" a meager, but generous, two out of ten stars. This was such a waste of time.

Mystery doors make millions of people dissappear and plot vanishes with it.
email-5536131 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Man, there's these spooky weird doors from outer space. How do you know they're spooky? Because of the ominous music that plays whenever the camera looks at them. Once people look at the door, all intelligence leaves the area. You know how if you find yourself trapped in a horror movie, never be the guy who goes down into the basement alone to investigate that weird noise, right? Well, the people who live in the movie never saw a horror movie in their life, apparently. They see a door that is writhing, throbbing, emitting weird sounds, and they not only nonchalantly walk up to it, they stand there and look at it until it kills everyone. And no one seems freaked out by this.

The movie is broken down into 4 vignettes. First is a high school setting. Half a dozen kids in the library. Alarms go off. Phones ring but no one knows whats going on. (Because it is a MYSTERY!) One kid acts like he is high. They leave library and in the hallway is a throbbing writhing wall of tentacles and iron filings moving throuh a magnetic field.

Do they scream? Run? Turn around? Anything that normal people would do? No. They stare at it. Eventually the kid who acts like he's high gets into a fight and pushes two kids at the door, and they vanish. Does the remaining kid scream? Run away? Get away from the kid who did the pushing? Do anything a normal kid would do? No. They stay and of course eventually the kid pushes them into the door and they dissappear too. End of vignette #1.

Vignette #2. Weeks later, half the worlds population has dissappeared. The government asks for volunteers (called "knockers" because "door knockers"... get it? GET IT???) And we follow three knuckleheads in tyvek suits and gas masks go through a door. Just before they go, they are told they have to come back in less than 12 minutes or they die. Does anyone pause? Stop and consider the gravity of what they are doing? Do anything that normal human beings would do? No. They waltz through the door. On the other side, the first immediate genius move these three morons make is to split up and go in separate directions. And then, true to the horror movie trope, they all succumb to door madness. And die. End of vignette 2.

Vignette 3. Some guy who lives in the woods found a door in his woods. If you find a door, you are supposed to report it. But this guy is a super genius and doesnt tell anyone. He sets up some audio equipment next to the door and pipes his voice through a stereo equalizer, and Ta da! He can talk to the door. He is so excited he invites a friend over. The friend comes over. And brings her boyfriend who was not invited and immediately trips every "wound too tight jerk" vibe. Guy shows them his door. Wound too tight guy immediately texts his cop friend to come over. Who immediately shows up and starts waving a gun around. Wound-to-tight guy gets shot in an act of writer-bestowed-justice, and then something kills the cop. Maybe the door. Maybe the girlfriend. It was so stupid I didnt even care enough to rewind and find out. End of vignette 3.

Vignette 4. A podcaster? Or vlogger? Of maybe a pirate radio dj? Has a video interview with some guy he thinks is an "expert". But the expert is immediately acting like he is high. This should immediately raise red flags to the audience. And the DJ might stop and ask if the guy is sober or something. But nope. He plows through oblivious. The expert tells the DJ that the doors are "arbiters" and "judges" and keeps dropping these ominous sounding terms. And every time the DJ says "that sounds scary", the expert says, like some dude baked out of his mind, "dude, lighten up dude." "The doors are awesome. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. This is awesome". "You are being assimilated right now".

And then the DJ gets up, starts acting weird, takes off his pants and walks up stairs. End of vignette3.

End of movie. Roll credits.

If you think i forgot to explain the plot, no. I didnt. There is no plot. No one does anything except get destroyed by the door. Over and over again, people see terrifying things happen and they just stand there until something terrifying happens to them.

What are the doors? Who cares. They are a mystery box. And i mean that in the worst possible way. JJ Abrams coined the term "mystery box" in a youtube video talking about how he went into a magic trinket store as a kid and they had a "mystery box" of some magic trick props for ten bucks. And he says how he was infatuated with the mystery and it made it more valuable in his mind. So he bought the box and never opened it. And he was so impressed with how infatuated he was by the mystery box that he used pointless mystery boxes in many of his movies and shows instead of actual plot and character development. You remember the insanity that was the ending of "Lost"? That was JJ Abrams and his mystery box.

"Doors" is is clearly infatuated with the mystery box to the point that they didnt think they needed anything else. No plot. No characters. No development. No growth. Nothing. Just doors that show up. And people keep staring at them until the door eats them. The. End.

If you took out the "spooky" sound effects so you dont have the movie telling you how you should feel, you quickly become bored watching idiots staring at obviously dangerous things until the thing inevitably kills them.

For decades, i have carried around "Mars Attacks" as the worst movie of all time. I didnt think it possible, but "Doors" now carries the Worst Movie of all time banner.

For the love of god and all that is holy, do not waste your time watching this movie. It is money and time you could spend on other more enjoyable and entertaining endeavors, such as regrouting your bathroom.

sectional
SnoopyStyle27 March 2021
Four high school students are stuck in detention when something starts happening in the world. That is the first section in this movie which is split into different parts. The first section is a fascinating Twilight Zone story with four unknown young actors. It's twenty minutes. It could have been a fine full length sci-fi horror but it skips to the next section. The second section has Josh Peck, Lina Esco, and Dugan O'Neal in a group. Dugan is a co-writer and co-director of the movie. What I like least about this section is the attempt at light-heart pranking. The world is newly apocalyptic and Josh Peck keeps joking around. It's annoying. The movie disintegrates over time as each section has its own disjointed tone within this world. I'd rather they stuck with the four kids and keep going with their story. It wouldn't be great but at least, it would have a chance at being functional.

Useless
rehmankhilji23 March 2021
Let me be honest, i fell for the poster, should have checked the reviews first. Though the start and second to last scenes of the movie / plot were good but ended in one senseless, continued manner. Dont watch it and just simply ignore this useless piece of movie.

About Doors, Knockers, Rocks and the Rest
pietclausen23 March 2021
The movie starts off well in a school classroom but sinks deep into a mess never to see any of the actors in a number of segments again. What keeps the segments together is a radio voice over a time period, then refreshes and the film concludes.

The film achieves nothing. It tends to emulate Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, but fails completely, leaving nothing but imaginary baloney.

The only good look of the movie is its deceptive poster.

So I thought - "how bad could it be?" - Big mistake
imdb-2021223 March 2021
I saw the reviews were pretty low, but the concept sounded intriguing and I gave it a try anyway.

The reviews are correct however - this really isn't that good.

Overall, I think of it as a collection of 4 shorts that all have a central scenario - the arrival of mysterious objects they decide to call "Doors", and different ways people interact with them.

And that's it. I have my theory on why they showed up and what their purpose is, but I want to keep it spoiler free. It seems pretty clear based on a few big giveaways that the one door itself reveals, and a certain scene at the very end of the 3rd part.

Don't listen to the haters.
piercedtat28 March 2021
What a surprising movie. It's weird, different and a little messed up. It's not a Hollywood everything has to be in a nice little package. It's original, I've never seen anything like it before. The only thing I can complain about is that I didn't want it to end. I just finished it and I would watch it again immediately if I had the time.

Watch and decide for yourself
tinidrilcharon29 March 2021
I don't understand why it has such a low rating with such bad reviews.

I suspect too many people want their sci-fi movies to be contained in a box that they have pre-conceived.

I have turned a lot of movies off in my life but not this one.

It was engaging, I was never bored, the plot was interesting and the acting was good.

Sure they probably would have liked to have a bigger budget for effects, but they did a decent job through out most of it.

I say if you like Sci-fi movies that are not mainstream or overblown, watch it and decide for yourself. If I had read the reviews and decided not to watch it, I would have missed out on something I enjoyed.

Kept my attention
sokkrazit23 March 2021
The movie is an anthology stories sci fi production. It's rather amateurish : they didn't check the spelling of the written on the screen ( 26:05 "appeard" ), but it kept my attention up until the end. That's an indicator, at least for me, that it's worth watching.

Strange
gab-6759928 March 2021
I wish movies now a days would get a good story and actually stick with it. This movie was all over the board and started off strong, then got strange and then I got completely lost. I would not recommend this movie unless you just had nothing better to do and are already bored out of your mind.

Poor Doors
Tweetienator15 October 2021
There is nothing to misunderstand in Doors - it is simply a low budget production that mainly drags on and on and on. Limited budget, limited acting skills, four more or less boring episodes. They should have put all the money and ideas in one short movie to get attention for their vision and maybe then collect a budget enough to make a real movie, but the script for Doors would have needed still some serious editing and reworking.

The Movie Goes Nowhere and Does it Badly
jmatthewphipps28 March 2021
The movie wants to be something. There are 3 stories and none of them are told beyond the tagline level. They are each the start of a story but contain nothing but the start. The ending is just plain cerebral self-abuse that doesn't even rise to the level of pretentiousness. I'd almost say that someone had half an idea and their buddy had a couple of cool special effects to represent the doors and in the end, that's all they had.

The worst movie I've ever seen
Darrenburnell2320 August 2021
Would have rated it zero if I could. I can't believe someone actually made this movie. I don't like to be nasty or overly critical of someone's work but I honestly have nothing nice to say about it. Maybe it was made for a very small, very particular and odd audience.

As a huge scifi lover the concept and the tension of the first two part got my attention, but from the second half it was just the downward spiral of boredom. I'm sorry it turned out this way.

Refreshing thought provoking arthouse sci-fi ruined by Hollywood marketing
ivapadezanin28 March 2021
We live in the time when every sci-fi is measured by Avengers and similar high budget pop corn entertainment. One of the victims is this intimate thought-provoking low key sci-fi. The narrative is unconventional, pacing is slow. The doors design and purpose were done in refreshing way. Visual effects are well integrated into the story and not over the top. Hollywood marketing (poster and trailer ) were quite misleading, obviously drawing the wrong audience to this art house type movie.

For true Sci-Fi fans
robhall_ie11 September 2021
Anyone scoring this low doesn't understand Sci-Fi. This is a great movie, taking an original concept and exploring it through simple scenarios and leaving the viewer to complete the picture on their own. Don't not miss this if you really love sci-fi.

fahad-3974024 March 2021
Never doing that again, lol. I've seen high school films better than this.

Really bad dialogue No character motives Sloppy plot, no real direction Tries too hard to be deep

Those two scientists, Jamal and whatever, were the only two people who talked somewhat realistically.
