An explosive story.

The Jenny Jones show is put on trial after a man shoots another man, who confessed his love for him on national TV.

This was a very interesting first episode, you get an idea of the way the show's going to go, similar in The UK with The Jeremy Kyle show.

In my opinion, Scott was a victim, obviously John was the true victim, but come on, Scott was definitely put in a horrific situation, you can't imagine how embarrassed be must have felt, all for so called entertainment.

Fieger's questions, they were spot on, he may have been way over the top, too much bravado, but he was spot on.

These sort of talk shows were compulsive viewing for many people, myself included, if people say they never watched this kind of show, they're probably lying.

8/10.

Was TV responsible?
Whoopz4 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Did anybody win in this? The answer is obviously not. Do I think the TV show was responsible for what happened? To a certain degree yes. I do find it weird they didn't take responsibility.

Most people are still growing up in a world where it's embarrassing to be gay, but that's no reason to kill. Maybe he didn't actually mean to kill him, but then why would he bring a gun. Makes no sense.

I like the people interview, I like the fact that it wasn't super one sided and we got interviews from both of the lawyers.

Controversy
Calicodreamin26 May 2022
My favorite part about this episode is the layers of watching a documentary exploiting an incident about a tv show exploiting people who then took the show to court and the resulting trial was exploited. It brings up a controversial moral question. Well made doc with relevant interviews and follow up.

Do really think that Scott Amedure is not a little bit responsible for his own death? He went on national and humiliated this man sitting right beside him, Scott Amedure right or wrong, using common sense should have known better.

This follows Shakespeare to a tee, and is worth the watch.

True Crime or True Yawn?
natmavila26 February 2024
In the vast expanse of true crime documentaries, "Trial by Media: Episode 0101 - Talk Show Murder" positions itself as the lukewarm coffee of the genre. It's not the piping hot brew that jolts you awake, nor the iced version that refreshes; it's just... there. The episode dives into the sensational story with the enthusiasm of a suburban dad mowing his lawn for the umpteenth time. It's not that he hates it, but you'd hardly catch him Instagramming the event with the caption "#Passion".

The narrative is akin to a roller coaster designed by a health and safety officer - it has its ups and downs, but you're never really in fear for your life. The episode does a commendable job of presenting facts and interviews, but it lacks the emotional depth and gripping tension that make you cancel plans and ignore texts. It's the documentary equivalent of receiving a beige sweater as a gift; you appreciate the effort, but you're not rushing to show it off to your friends.

In conclusion, "Trial by Media: Episode 0101 - Talk Show Murder" earns a solid 3.5 stars. It's the kind of episode you watch when you've already scrolled through the entirety of your social media feeds and your other subscriptions are begging for a break. It's not bad, but it's the documentary version of saying, "Well, it was okay" after leaving a party. You came, you saw, you mildly entertained, and you'll probably forget about it by the time you find another series to binge.
