Was not supposed to be the season finale
ldymagdalene22 May 2020
Many of the other posters are complaining that this was a bad season finale. Folks have to remember that this is filmed in Atlanta Georgia and we shut down beginning the week of March 23, 2020. This was still filming at that point in time this was not supposed to be a season finale there should have been at least another four or five episodes

Gutless Angus Punts to Aunt Gwen
Johnny_West9 May 2020
Leland, the psychotic leader of Codex (played by Tobin Bell, from the SAW movies), decides that Aunt Gwen (7 of 9 STNG actress Jeri Ryan) has compromised her team by trusting her nephew Angus. So he kills everyone on her team.

Really lame, considering that some of those characters were pretty interesting and could have continued to be ongoing villains. The few villains that survived the initial Codex massacre by Leland, later got killed off by the Phoenix agents.

The Codex plan was to put a nuke into the Yellowstone Park underground volcanoes and make the super-volcanoes blow up, and cover the earth with volcanic ash. In theory, most of life on earth could die. Even Yogi Bear was angry about this.

The Phoenix team works to stop the plan, and along the way, Angus gets his anti-nuke timer broken by the last surviving Codex villain. Now somebody has to die in order to stop the nuke, and it is between Angus and Aunt Gwen.

A real MacGyver would have figured out another way to make the timer work, by using a matchstick and a rubber band; or he should have created another anti-nuke gizmo. That is the whole point of being MacGyver. But Angus has no clue, and he just punts to Aunt Gwen and runs away.

It was great to see Jeri Ryan in these recent episodes. She is an excellent actress and she brought great passion to her role as Aunt Gwen. I hope that she will be back. Ryan brings real energy to her role, and she is believable as a misguided person who wants to do good.

Tobin Bell is a very boring villain. Bell has all the energy of a pet rock. The difference between Jeri Ryan and Tobin Bell is literally like day and night.

Terrible Season Finale for a Generic, Mediocre Show
nwrailfan9 May 2020
This episode was purely pointless, and had a really weird storyline. The show continues to deteriorate in both story and characters. Every episode is a generic action show plot, and most of the characters are completely unlikeable.

Hit us over the head with a jackhammer, why don't you?
alchemist-8184819 October 2020
This was such a lame episode-a fitting finale to a lame season.

The original series was so much better in every way-this one is pathetic by comparison. Writers decided to throw climate change and air their "social consciousness" by smacking the viewers in the face with their own views. Bad writing, bad directing, terrible acting- a waste of time and the considerable talents of Jeri Ryan, who is always worth watching, even in this drivel.

Hopefully the next season will be an improvement. If the writers (if you could call them that) would give us a twist and put Mac and Riley together-and rid us of the awful Desi-now that would be a good start.

Getting clubbed over the head
rpiehl510 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The original MacGyver began as a good show with innovative (if a bit questionable) science and then went downhill in later seasons by clubbing viewers over the head with "socially conscious" topics as the themes for episodes.

With this season, and especially this episode this version of MacGyver is spiraling down the same hill. Except instead of social issues this time we get clubbed over the head with climate change. Can't we have an entertaining TV program without the political heavy handedness?

This was a dreadful episode. It was largely predictable, and formulaic. In case you can't tell by the title it's save the world for future generations by reversing climate change. If I want to hear about that I'll watch the news. And it reached its nadir with Mac testifying before a Senate committee.
