Funny drama

This film is a journey through the emotions of four characters, but instead of understanding them, they make people laugh.

The film does not have a conflict to resolve, but it does give us a broad description of the problems of each character, individually and as a couple and among friends, at first this generates intrigue and a bit of mystery, but then everything falls apart due to that a resolution to these problems is not sought until almost the climax, and in that part, the script makes very hasty decisions and faces them in a ridiculous way, instead of empathize with the characters and their problems, they are laughable due to the little seriousness and importance that were taken throughout the film, even the actors' reactions to the revelations are laughable. Although the film manages to reflect the monotony that some people live in their daily lives, it also reflects that we can become very attached to something or someone that does not let us advance as a person. The story leaves some things unresolved and does not give equal importance to all the characters. Some positive points of the film are the beautiful photography, the interesting cinematography and the music, which although it is not the best, is something different and interesting. The performances are excessive at times and the ending can seem convenient and ridiculous.

Its main problem is the unpolished script that fails to give the necessary tools to worry and interest us in each of the characters, just as it fails to get us into this roller coaster of emotions that the characters go through, although it manages to stand out in the visual aspects, the script needed a lot more work to be dramatic and tragic enough.

Loved it

A film for anyone and everyone older and wiser than 35/40 years old to laugh away our pain. Cardona and Cayo are great, Cuaron is superb as he has always been.

A darkly hilarious disjointed sequel to 'Y Tu Mama Tambien'

Watch 'Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN' and wait for the reference. There is a scene in that film during the road trip where they're passing through a military checkpoint and on the radio there is an ad for a dentist who can fix bad teeth using 'Amalgama', Also in that film, Luisa, the attractive Spanish woman is a dentist. I'm not sure what the deeper connection is regarding dentistry I would love to find out.

The beach they go to in 'Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN' is 'Boca del Cielo' and the beach they travel to in 'AMALGAMA' is 'Isla Cielo'.

The Cuaron brothers are bizarrely genius film makers and I love their dark humor and the way they celebrate Mexican culture but also make fun of its hypocrisy and idiosyncrasies.

Their photography is unique because they regularly take shots with multiple characters in the frame but also highlight beautiful scenery. So they rarely use close or tight shots. This is the case with both films.

Also if you haven't seen 'Rudo y Cursi' you need to..it is the funniest Mexican film that exists to my knowledge.
