That was one heavy wrench.

Was not expecting the top notch accent from Lois and this episode had me in tears. Lois was great. I remember seeing them in The Flash and didn't think too much of them then. Now, really glad these cast these two. Just keeps getting good. Top Notch.

Lois Lane
rainerjhosua3 June 2021
This show keeps getting better every episode. The drama, the fights, especially this episode. Im speechless of how the actor of Lois Lane (Bitsie Tulloch) played her role in the show, the actor's potrayal is really really good.

And we finally see Jonathan became the story of the episode. Usually it's Jordan, but now the big star is Jonathan.

ANOTHER BANGER EPISODE
Zaid_Khoury3 June 2021
I really appreciate the quality of each episode, each episode is a different vibe, love the backstory that was introduced, loved everything about this episode.

The effects were amazingly done and all I can say is this is one of the best If not the best Superhero show on CW. I'm glad they're implementing more elements to each new episode. Great performances in this episode.

Love how every episode moves the show forward

Warning: Spoilers
No time for filler here! Wish other DC shows could say the same*cough*. Great acting by everyone in the cast this ep! Especially Bitsie and Jordan Eglass. They stole the show tonight. Not to take away from Tyler, Alex and Wole who were also amazing tonight but those two drove the episode. Also great character development for Lois, Jon and John this ep. Never thought Lois experienced that great a loss delves more into her psyche & shows how she's the heart of the Kent family(Jon too). The action & suspense this ep were good too, kept me at the edge of my seat. Let's see what happens next but I got to say I haven't been disappointed at all in Superman and Lois so far.

I was not prepared for that

Warning: Spoilers
This episode had me in tears.

Lois lost a baby named Natalie? Wow.

John Henry Irons is a perfect antagonist, who will probably turn around and become a hero.

Also, the family drama in the Cushing house, with the father drinking his troubles away and forsaking his family is too damn real.

Best Superhero show... EVER!

Holding the Wrench is about the characters and setting up the remaining episodes, it's an incredible episode
Holt3442 June 2021
Norma Bailey directed this week's episode and her direction is fantastic, cinematography and camera work are also great. "Holding the Wrench" is about character development and characters coming to terms of their problems, normally I wouldn't rate a character driven episode this high but there's much development that is needed for the remaining episodes, from characters outside and inside the Kent Family. The focus on Lana Lang and her family is needed for the bigger picture. The writers did a phenomenal job with the episode and the director they choose was the right person for the job. I have to praise Elizabeth Tulloch for her performance, throughout the whole show, this is hands down her best.

The 8th episode continues where last week's episode left off, John Henry Irons aka Captain Luthor in a jail cell and "Holding the Wrench" is the aftermath of our characters learning the true identity of his. John Henry Irons in the comic book is an important hero that takes the superhero name Steel after the Death of Superman story arc. He's different in Superman and Lois but stays true to the comic book character.

I want to add this, the episode was satisfying and entertaining from start to finish. A lot of questions gets answered, I'm finding this show to getting better and better for each episode and they aren't slowing down.

The CW is executing project 7734 all over this episode!

Warning: Spoilers
Okay, this episode is good, and this show is good. I'm not remotely claiming that this show is bad. However, this one feels a lot weaker than the other episodes in this series thus far. Basically, this one feels like it was written by the CW, whereas every other episode so far feels like it was written by the WandaVision writers. That's the best analogy I can give.

The stuff between Sarah and Kyle felt really forced this week. I've never been the biggest fan of the Cushing family drama on this show, but it was kinda on full display this week with Kyle actually trying to be a good father for a while, learning that Lana lied to him, and then reverting to form. I can tell that he wants to make a difference in his daughter's life, and he did actually try this week, but it ultimately amounted to nothing. Sarah still just hates her family, even though they're really not that bad in the grand scope of things, at least not that's been shown. I get how real Kyle drinking his feelings away is, and it is a real issue that kids and spouses have to deal with every day, but that realness didn't make the drama feel any less weak. But hey, credit where it's due, that scene of Sarah singing with Jordan playing the piano felt like Inde Navarrette was really singing. It didn't feel forced or autotuned at all, and was just really cool.

Then there's the stuff with Lois and John. Now, I get it. Losing a child in a miscarriage can be devastating, and watching your son almost die can be tough and result in some serious ptsd, but the way it was handled really fell flat for me. John actually has been built up to make stupid decisions like this, especially since his son is in training to be Superboy. Lois on the other hand has never really been shown to lash out in this way. I know it's supposed to come off as repressed ptsd from her miscarriage, but it came off like she was being ever so slightly irrational. They managed to bring it together at the end, but it still didn't completely land for me.

Not Lex, aka John Henry Irons, still hates Superman. Now, maybe I just have a chip on my shoulder from him not being Lex Luthor, but he didn't feel as... "Real" this week, for lack of a better word. Not Lex has been portrayed as a guy that wants to kill Superman because Superman was evil on his Earth, and would rather kill Superman instead of taking the chance that he might not be evil. Heck, his wife was murdered by Superman. I totally get that. I'm not upset at him for that. However, his entire story up to this point was kind of invalidated when he said to Lois "There's a lot I want to say. But, you're not the woman I want to say it to. You just look like her." That's a development that should've taken until the season finale in my opinion. For Not Lex to say that, I personally feel like Superman should've actually proved him wrong, and everything he believed should've come crashing down. Maybe it's just me that feels this way though.

Oh yeah, and how come he can suddenly just delete the identification for Lex in his AI? Didn't his daughter say that she hadn't finished coding the AI for him instead of Lex in the very last episode? That's, like, Batwoman levels of sloppy. At least, I think it is. I haven't watched that show since "Bat Girl Magic".

Look, it's not the worst episode of tv I've ever watched, but I was just expecting a lot more, especially since every episode until now has ranged from excellent to phenomenal. If this episode is any indication for what's to come though, The CW is stepping into the writer's room and taking over, and not in a good way. I want to believe that the next episode will be better, but the last time I hoped for that was with Eric Wallace trying to make The Flash season seven as good as season six, and my trust was clearly misplaced on that front. So you can say my optimism isn't what it used to be. Still though, I have a little more faith in Superman and Lois than I do in The Flash, so I am gonna hold out a little bit of hope.

Don't make episodes like this a habit, writers.

Good character development
tomcode2 June 2021
This show is so good it should have a higher ranking than a 7.9 it should be a 8.1 or 8.2. Anyways this episode was good not as good as the last too but still good. Good fight scenes and good character development for John Henry Irons. He is such great character so far and they nailed his origin. The cgi still holds up to par. My only negative was their were some pointless storylines. But it was a good episode I rate it a 8.5/10.

Like 50% of this episode was great Action Comics/Superfam content, and the rest was dead weight. I'm not going to outright say that it wouldn't be possible to make me care about something small like a Smallville talent show but the writing for it here was literally unoriginal af 😭

Warning: Spoilers
Clark repairs the red truck using his super-strength and heat ray. He hears something and tells his boys that he has to save the day as usual. Lois and Jonathan explore Lex's RV, yikes. I like how Sara's dad is now nice and wanting to spend more time with his daughter. Lex is taken to the confession room discussing with Superman. This is giving me some Man of Steel vibes, lol. Not going to lie but, I love Hoechlin in that black suit. It looks awesome. Lois discusses with Jonathan the post-Crisis stuff. Confusing, am I right? I agree. Lois eventually discovers that her alternate self was in love with Lex. Superman discusses with Lane how to deal with Lex. Meanwhile, Jonathan watches a video of his alternate mom getting killed on Live TV. Big yikes. Even when it comes to him discovering guns and getting trapped since the motion device has captured suspicious movement. Lois calls Clark for the rescue, he eventually arrives, saving Jonathan at the last second before the bullets could kill him. Lois screams at Jonathan that he could have been killed plus, snooping around without her. I am not going to lie though. But it's a damn excellent performance. Lieutenant Rosetti is revealed to be a Kryptonian and helps Lex to escape. Jordan helps out with Sara of her audition. Jordan's piano skills are great.

Rosetti brings Lex to Room-7734. The alert sounds on. Lane warns Superman that there is tons of kryptonite present in there. Finally, we have action which I was craving for. Lex kills Rosetti using a Kryptonite spear. The Military has surrounded Lex as Lois confronts him on what happened in his world. I dig her speech. The Military takes Lex in custody. I love how priceless Lane's reaction after hearing from Superman that Edge is making a new race of Kryptonians. I did not see that coming, but damn. Somehow, LEx is out repairing his RV. Lois apologizes to Jonathan for how she lashed out. It seems like Lex is allies with Lois and Clark, for now... Lex takes off. Thus, ending the episode.

Thoughts?

The episode is outstanding. That's all I have to say. I think I enjoyed Superman's involvement with the Military, the most.

Holding the Wrench
Prismark1011 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 8 resolves an important subplot of the first series.

Up to know there were two big bads coming for Superman.

With Captain Luthor revealed to be John Henry Irons. Lois Lane and Jonathan learn more about him and the multiverse.

The concept of the multiverse comes as a surprise to Jonathan. That Irons was married to his mum and they had a daughter.

With Morgan Edge creating people with Kryptonian powers. You can understand why Irons might think Superman in this world could still turn evil.

The episode ends with a tacit understanding between Irons and Superman. It leaves the door open for Irons to return.

It also introduces a personal element for Lois Lane. A daughter that she and Clark lost due to a miscarriage.

It was a story where both Lois Lane and John Henry Irons are still trying to overcome grief.
