Mohit Suri's Psychic And Erotic Mess Has Everything To Make Sure That The Audience Will Not Return To Theatres.
SAMTHEBESTEST29 July 2022
Ek Villain Returns (2022) Movie Review -

Mohit Suri managed to get an exciting cast of John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, and Tara Sutaria together for Ek Villain Returns. Did any of them excite you for an acting-driven show? Ask this question to yourself and please keep the answer to yourself only. Well, not many people know this, or maybe some social media fanatics know, that Mohit Suri is one of those Bollywood directors who has done more remakes and adaptations than the original works. Forget other films for now, let's talk about Ek Villain (2014). Many of today's youth cinema lovers have seen the South Korean action thriller "I Saw The Devil" (2010), so they know how much its plot contributes to Ek Villain. With Ek Villain Returns, he tries a new erotic film with those gone-dated thriller formulas we saw in Hollywood classics like "Fight Club," "The Sixth Sense," and "Shutter Island." This mess of an erotic thriller and psychic notions spoils good-looking logic for you and, moreover, terrible performances and unnecessary loud moments burn down every single expectation of yours.

Ek Villain Returns is a story about love, betrayal, and revenge, all mixed into a boring musical potboiler. Bhairav (John Abraham), a cab driver in love with a salesgirl Rasika (Disha Patani), is now a serial killer-cum-messiah for the one-sided lovers. On the other hand, Gautam (Arjun Kapoor), the spoiled son of a rich businessman, falls in love with an emerging rockstar singer, Aarvi (Tara Sutaria). With opposite thoughts about love, these two male lovers cross each other as their motives clash to decide who's the villain and who's the hero, and who wins at the end. The involvement of the police is as useless as traffic signals in car racing games, so you can assume how assuring the writing is.

In the press conference, Ekta Kapoor said that Rohit Shetty called it a blockbuster script and passed it to Mohit Suri. I can understand why Rohit passed the script, but I cannot understand why he called it a "blockbuster one." The last two films where Mohit was involved in the writing were Crook (2010) and Raaz 2 (2009). He returns as a writer again. Why? Aseem Arora is doing a mix bag nowadays, so basically the duo has written a mix bag for the viewers, which confers audiences with known formulas with illogical characters. That suspense with John and Disha's characters is clearly visible by the time you reach the interval point, because you see them behaving weirdly all of a sudden, without any concrete reasons. One can easily predict the suspense there, while Arjun and Tara's characters are sidelined already. Those crooked one-sided lovers have nothing to learn from here, like they had in "Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2".

Talking about performances, I think two minutes of silence should be followed here. John Abraham's choices of films and roles are getting worse day by day. The same man who has worked in films like "Parmanu" and "Batla House" has done five duds in a row-"Pagalpanti," "Mumbai Saga," "Satyameva Jayate 2," "Attack Part 1," and "EVR". He always says, "Good films work and the bad ones don't." Well, he is damn honest and right. Hopefully, we'll see the result again with Ek Villian Returns. Arjun Kapoor looks like a handsome playboy and has acted well in a few scenes. Disha Patani spills glamour with grey shades, and that's the best she could do. For Tara Sutaria, the selection is even worse than John. SOTY 2, Marjaavaan, Tadap, Heropanti 2 and now this. Come on, Tara, please justify your name by doing something starry. I hope that happens with your next one, "Apurva," as you have called it that one content-driven film and the role you were looking for. The rest of the actors in Ek Villain Returns are barely noticeable, so better not talk about them. And yes, Riteish Deshmukh fans are in for an illogical surprise here. Those who have seen Ek Villain (2014) will know why it's illogical.

The Ek Villain franchise is known for music, and even Mohit Suri's films are known for their music albums more than the content. Ek Villain Returns had a huge pressure of that thing but somehow managed to carry the load safely. However, the video songs have made this film damn slow and boring. The audios of "Dil," "Galiyaan Returns," "Shaamat," and "Naa Tere Bin" are groovy enough, though. Can't say well done, but well attempted by Ankit Tiwari, Tanishk Bagchi and Kaushik-Guddu. The dialogues are bearable and the action sequences are passable. Technically, Ek Villain Returns is a much better product than what it is as a whole. The editing has made things simple for you because all the trauma passes quickly in two hours so that it doesn't become a headache, and the background score is scary enough to awaken you in case you have fallen asleep during the watch.

Mohit Suri's last outing Malang introduced us to cliches in his own dark and erotic form, yet failed to make a good cinematic experience. Comparatively, Malang looks a better film than Ek Villain Returns now. The pandemic has made viewers more mature, and this will surely make things difficult for Ek Villain Returns. Suri's draft is weak, but his direction looks helpless as you see the paperwork being converted into on-screen spectacle with no improvisation. The framework is so bad in some scenes, and who said cut to those extra loud moments that have no feelings? It was Mohit only. At least in the writing, Ek Villain deserved a better successor. I hate remakes, but if Mohit is trying to rip off things like this in so-called original films, then it's better he remakes or adopts Korean films. As a whole, Ek Villain Returns is a huge disappointment in almost every department, be it acting, writing, screenwriting, or direction. Will we see addition of box office to this list soon?

Kill Dil.

Ek Villain Returns review :

A serial killer on the prowl That makes some 'bewaffa' women howl Is it Arjun or is it John?

Or maybe Disha with her deranged frown..

The sequel to Ek Villain, which had Riteish Deshmukh as the demented serial killer with Sid Malhotra as his nemesis, is turned in to a franchise here by Mohit Suri whose last film Malang (2020) was quite okay though it didn't exactly set the box office on fire. Here, he has an interesting story to tell but alas, the execution is too sluggish and confusing to entertain...even at a crisp two hours ten minutes of runtime!!

Infact, the first hour is only about a spoilt rich brat Arjun Kapoor doing some serious faltugiri with an aspiring singer played by Tara Sutaria. Music has always been Mohit's fortè but the songs in Ek Villain Returns are ahem (!!) unsatisfactory to say the least. Worse, the ploy to take the story forward through the songs falls flat as we find them jarring to the narrative flow.

John Abraham comes nearly an hour late and his entry elevates the movie two notches higher. He plays a radio cab driver who falls for a clothing sales girl Disha Pattani. Their love story progresses from the mushy taxi rides in Mumbai to a makeout in Lonavala where one of them gets a shock of life...

Mohit Suri hasn't been able to develop his key characters optimally unlike the first part where Riteish's serial killer was build up fantastically through his experiences with a nagging wife. Here, the main villain's intention doesn't look convincing at all. The metro fight sequence is imaginatively choreographed but who has ever seen an empty coach or a deserted platform in the ever busy Mumbai?! As for those clumsy VFX, the less said the better!!

Overall, Ek Villain Returns aint too bad for a one time dekho, but had the potential to be a fantastically wicked slasher movie. Mohit has lost a good opportunity but its still kinda okay. There is a hint of a sequel in the end credits scene and I hope that one kills it...literally!!

"Rating zaroor dena" repeats the cabbie John throughout the movie. 5 stars (out of 10) is what Ek Villain Returns gets from me.

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

This movie is perfect example where Indian cinema is heading now because of favoritism.. arjun kapoor doesn't know how to act, disha patani doesn't know anything else other than nudity..why mohit suri couldn't cast some good actors... this movie could have been way better if mohit suri wouldn't have casted disha patani, arjun kapoor and Tara sutaria.. it pissed me off.

Worse than Bumshera
Soul_Snatcher29 July 2022
When I thought nothing could stoop lower than a tripun tilak guy terrorizing Indians, Ek Villian goes even lower. John and Arjun are examples of the most talentless actors right now and they were pitted against each other for a bland and nauseous meal. It is predictable with cringe expressions. The direction was meh and editing was laughable.

These kind of movies are better for OTTs, not Multi.

Also, most positive reviews written here are by production house workers, just click on their profile and you'll see all joined in July. I therefore, will take from bollywood from now on. They're toxic and energy sucking entities.

Extreme disaster
shama_musani9 September 2022
I have been a Bollywood fan for years, and try to find something positive in movies; however it was very difficult to like anything about this one. The first Ek villain was amazing, great performances and the music still sticks with you. Ek villain returns on the other hand should never have been made. Each of the 4 main leads were brutal in their performances, and probably shouldn't continue to act. Some of the scenes were very cringy, and I could barely watch. John Abraham's good days are over, Arjun Kapoor can't do anything to revive his career, and Disha and Tara will never make it as great actresses by doing this garbage. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Trashy but engaging
poulomihari13 September 2022
I don't know why people are hating this movie so much. While people are looking out for massy south films, they are trying to dump this one which has entertainment value of most massy entertainers. The story was great, the plot was engaging. I have seen worse films. KGF for example, was too annoying and I have no idea why people love it so much. I couldn't sit throught it for more than 10 minutes. The screenplay, the plot of this movie was good enough. If they could have afforded better actors and dialogue writers, then maybe this movie would have done better as a whole. This movie has its flaws but it isn't as bad as people make it to be. I enjoyed it. I think instead of going for stylised masala pot boiler, had this been made specifically for OTT with more erotic R-rated scenes and gore, this movie would have achieved a cult status. I guess film makers should evolve theselves for OTT and give up this obsession for theatre audience. Let the theatre be for theatrical movies. Mystry thrillers deserve to be made with more grounded performance. The audience has evolved and so has our tastes. But anyways, this movie was a decent watch.

PATHETIC....
M_S_Shekhawat30 July 2022
Having been persuaded by my girlfriend to see the movie, I watched it with her.

My time in the theatre ended up being one of the most torturous of my life.

To me, the mental torture I endured was worse than that my girlfriend did.

Following the intermission, I left the movie as well as the girl I was dating.

I don't understand why Bollywood makes such garbage.

NOT BAD!
av_19992 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly, Arjun kapoor suits perfectly for the rich spoilt brat character. Hopefully, his acting was not bad.

Disha Patani was sensational *chef's kiss*. Great acting.

Tara is looked so pretty. No comment's on her acting because it's always perfect.

John could have been the perfect villian but I just felt that the scariness and the vibe of a serial killer was given out more by Disha than John which should have been balanced out.

Lastly, I thought there was less show of public sentiment and the police didn't make much impact for me.

One Time Watchable Average Movie
shahedshanto30 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story of the movie is amazing. Screenplay is good. 1st half of the movie is dull and boring. But the 2nd half of the movie is amazing. Music is very good. Specially two good romantic songs. John Abraham is the main villain of this movie. However, the hero and heroine could not act in some scenes. Expressions were not shown where expressions were required. Overall average movie. If the movie survives at the box office then it is only for the 2nd half of the movie. I like the end credit scene at the climax of the movie.

Ek Villain Returns is a Complete Disaster and Complete Waste of Time & Money !!!
cs_rahul_prasad29 July 2022
Ek Villain Returns is about a serial killer with a twisted self-rationalisation. He feels he is the torchbearer or messiah of one-sided lovers who is extracting their revenge by killing the girls they love. And he is doing all this for ratings. The bigger the murder, the more ratings he gets from his ladylove. Twisted, right ? But most serial killers have twisted minds. Eight years after Rakesh Mahadkar's (Riteish Deshmukh) spine-chilling killings, another serial killer is on the loose, who is wreaking havoc in Mumbai.

The film begins with the villain's return, who breaks into a high rise building by smashing the glass and killing and assaulting everyone who comes in his way until he gets hold of singer Aarvi Malhotra (Tara Sutaria). Her murder is the big breaking news on every channel and spoilt brat Gautam Mehra (Arjun Kapoor) is accused of the crime. The story soon moves to a flashback where Gautam crashes his ex-girlfriend's wedding and creates a huge ruckus. However, when the girl declares that she still loves him, he tells the to-be groom that he can now marry her. Why ? Because 'Marna Chalega par Haarna Nahi'.

A video of Gautam's stunt is made viral by Aarvi, who turns his seeti-maar dialogues into a rap. He tracks her down and comes to know that she wants to be a singing sensation. He helps her sabotage another singer's career and make a place of her own. Earns her trust and love and, when the time is right, hits back at her for turning him into a viral meme.

On the other hand, we have Bhairav Puroihit (John Abraham), a cab driver who falls for Rasika Mapuskar (Disha Patani), a sales girl working in a departmental store. The stories of the four protagonists get intertwined with some interesting twists and plots. So now, it is left up to the audience to decide ki kaun hero aur kaun villain.

Screenplay written by Mohit Suri and Aseem Arora, Ek Villain Returns is everything that a suspense thriller is not supposed to be. It feels like Mohit Suri has completely forgotten what he is known for and at this point is writing a script on the sets everyday. Forget a structure, there is no story and I don't know how could have anyone pitched this idea. I am more surprised that someone in this world green signaled not just the script, but even the final cut.

Not even going deeper, the opening 30 minutes is literally people taking revenge for things that don't have the need to harass people, damage properties, or even hurt anyone physically. While the trailer might have kept you guessing who is the villain of this story, just 30 minutes into the film, you will understand who the real villain is. However, the regular twists and turns in the story manage to keep you on the edge of the seat. The first half has quite a few jump-scare moments and they build up to an interesting second half. And, the last seven minutes of the film take the cake.

The film had many illogical twists and action sequences. They tried to show John Abraham to be immensely powerful, whose expertise lies in breaking glass, be it in high-rise buildings or a metro rail. He might also also remind you of Sunny Deol when he easily dislodges the pole in the metro train and breaks the iron gate in the zoo.

Arjun Kapoor, I hope this is the last one in your wrong script choices phase and Lady Killer and Kuttey bring back the glorious side in you. He plays Gautam with a Mehra and only knows about taking revenge almost from everyone around. So one tone and unnecessary that his only existence is to create a mess and then solve it by creating more.

John Abraham at this point needs a break and a bird's eye view on his own filmography. This is the third fifth film where he gets a character that is borderline comical and has no arc to it other than leading to the moment he tears his t-shirt and shows his bulging and veiny muscles. He plays a cab driver with abs and tells everyone to rate him all the time. Before the interval, Disha has s*x with him and gives him stars on the glass of the car. Creepy, cringe & hilarious.

"Darr aur pyaar logon se buri cheezein karwata hai, toh main kaun hoon? Tera daar ya tera pyaar?" Disha asks John, but it is actually Arjun who answers this question towards the end of the film.

The 10 sec cameo at the end was far better than the whole films acting department
Biswas_30 July 2022
The first Ek Villian was never my favourite but it worked quite a lot because of the cute chemistry between Siddharth and Shraddha and the terrific performance by Riteish Deshmukh who in 2014 was known mostly for comic role but not a role like killer one. Not to forget the masterpiece music album that will rule playlists for many decades .

Cut to 2022, Ek Villian returns . Mohit Suri decided to remove all cuteness , emotions and acting out of it and made Ek Villian returns, a sequel noone ever wanted.

The film starts off pretty well with lots of intriguing parts that left me wondering what is going on but soon in 2nd half, things gets pieced together, and by the end , you realise you watched a bizzare illogical film with a bizzare yet seen before climax (in an Amir Khan film, spoilers for those who can guess it).

The only thing that held my attention with all the weird stuff going on was the interesting screenplay that was interesting enough to hold my attention till the end.

Had the screenplay been boring, i would have been *issed off by the cringe moments that the film has along with some really really terrible dialogues. What's this using "hashtag" while conversing ? "I became hashtag famous"! , then there are constantly dialogues like "Mai Tera Hero, tu meri villian" repeated a million times throughout the film and it irritated me. Ha Bhai pata hai Ek Villian dekh rahe hai you don't have to say that dialogue to make us remind what we are watching.

Songs. Big disappointment 😥😥. I thought even if the film was bad or good, atleast the music album would be chartbuster but sadly other than "Dil", no other song clicked. And my god did they ruin Galliyan!! The original Galliyan had such a cute sweet video of Shraddha and Siddharth in it but now they replaced it with a terrible lusty video that forces you to cringe.

There is no emotions nothing in this sequel. You don't feel for any actor. Their performance is equally average. None were good. Arjun was casted only because he possess that stoic look for a goon like person like him. He possesses no charm like Siddharth did. John is the same. Actresses need not be discussed. They are equally bad, not to forget that Qiran girl who was super cringy in her accent.

Overall, just a one time watch. Oh and one more thing. Right at the end there is an exciting cameo of someone, that persons 10 sec cameo was better than the whole films acting department.

Just stealing the name doesn't get the same feeling. Totally waste of time and money.. no story not good acting. Doesn't know why these people can't cast the good actors. Even if they would have made this movie again with Siddharth, Ritesh and Shraddha it would be much better.

A Very Booring Movie Please Do Not Watch
MehdiRizvi-786730 July 2022
The only thing missing from the bollywood plots these days was murdering women who say 'No'. Fantastic message for our budding youth and what a trailblazer for women empowerment!!

It's with sheer anger I left the theatre after watching Ek Villan Returns. Mr. Suri wants the society to regress to such low with his epic stories. I am eagerly waiting to see how much further beneath he will go in his next venture.

The days ain't far when someone puke in the theatre watching Suri's dramatic depiction of a mystery/thriller.

I am not against cinematic violence and vamp stories but lay out some justifications as well. Rampant murders doesn't make a movie.

Isn't it enough that we have to bear privileged 'I deserve everything' brats in real life? Why should we also have such personalities encroaching our leisure times? This movie offers the very characters we want to avoid in our daily life.

This movie's messages to people are: 1. A girl or woman shouldn't say no to the advances she get from opposite sex. Saying no can be like striking a nail on her coffin.

2. With family money as protective cover, rich brats can run amok and do whatever they want. Not even eagle fly above money. (Great message to a country when the majority are struggling middle class and poor)

3. Stalking is the ultimate expression of love. It's not being caring, understanding or making your partner laugh or being rooted and progressive in life. Instead Just be creepy and stare at a girl and tada, your love is justified and true.

In Malang also Suri said so and so died but in the end comes declaration "Fooled you, who you think as dead is alive" . The freshest twist of any plot, right? Just before theatres closed due to pandemic, this was the twist for thriller movie and then after two years when theatre opened, it's the same twist. We should just change the dictionary meaning of twist to ease the assualt on our brain.

If you want to watch this movie, do so but don't buy any popcorn or food or pepsi. You will mistakenly blame the food and pepsi for being adulterated and distasteful while the real culprit will be the sleazy plot and story of this movie.
