Poorly conceived porn documentary
lor_11 November 2011
I greatly enjoyed Gerard Damiano's topical 1970 porn documentary CHANGES, but this far more explicit followup film is a dud.

Picture is even more self-serving than its predecessor, as Damiano, awkwardly reading his prepared material on camera, hosts a round-table discussion of sexuality and censorship in America at a time when things were changing rapidly.

The panel includes fellow pornographer Ron Wertheim, whose pronouncements are uninteresting, and other "experts" who debate. Perhaps the most offbeat content is a defense of exposing children to pornography as part of their healthy learning experience -a point-of-view that would be off the table nowadays.

As with other fake documentaries of the time, the format is merely an excuse to show a group of about a dozen porn performers, who demonstrate sexual positions and voice-over in lurid form their sexual fantasies. This XXX content is well-photographed and edited, upstaging the often stupid round-table material. At one point a gay guy doing voice-over describes the proper method of deep-throat technique, a prophetic preview of what would soon put Damiano into the history books.

Clean-shaven pre-DEEP THROAT Harry Reems is one of the sex performers, as is Tina Russell and her hubby Jason. Darby Lloyd Rains is barely recognizable with a dark black hairdo so early in her career, and these three stars (minus Jason) are joined by their obscure Black co-star "Kitty Cat" of the horror porn DARK DREAMS made around the same time.
