If you thought the twisted characters in Game of Thrones, which were adapted from George R.R. Martin’s acclaimed novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, were the epitome of evil, think again.
Martin, the mastermind behind the beloved and brutal fantasy series, once took to his personal blog to give his thoughts on the Emmy-worthy performance of Breaking Bad’s Ozymandias episode. And let’s just say he was just so impressed that, according to him, the episode was the ante in the realm of television monsters.

Martin lauded Breaking Bad and its protagonist, Walter White, as a greater monster than anyone in Westeros. Yes, you read that right. The man who created terrifying characters such as Ramsay Bolton and Joffrey Baratheon acknowledged that there is one supervillain who surpasses them all.

Arr you ready to walk the plank into some sexy, swashbuckling pirate action? Well, then you’re about as lucky as a treasure chest full of gold coins, because all four seasons of Black Sails are now streaming on Netflix.
The historical adventure drama, which originally ran on Starz from 2014 to 2017, hails from creators Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine. Black Sails combines characters from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island with real historical figures and events to make an action-packed prequel to the classic 1883 adventure novel.
The pilot episode is directed by Neil Marshall, who also helmed Game of Thrones’ famous nautical battle episode “Blackwater,” which should give you some idea of what Black Sails is like. And action movie maestro Michael Bay is one of the series’ executive producers, which should definitely give you a sense of its scale. It’s an ambitious show...

Now, fans of the series have a treat in store as Martin’s The Hedge Knight will be made into a series. The Game Of Thrones spin-off has cast former rugby player Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall. While the athlete’s towering personality is still not a match for the extreme height the character requires, Martin assured fans that he will be made to look exactly like how he was envisioned.

This article contains spoilers for the book Fire & Blood and therefore likely spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2.
The long wait for footage from House of the Dragon season 2 has been dark and full of terrors. But that all came to an end when HBO finally released the first official House of the Dragon season 2 trailer following the show’s appearance at CCXP23 in São Paulo, Brazil. Give it a watch below.
Typically, teasers released for TV shows that do not have release dates yet (which House of the Dragon season 2 still does not … just a “Summer 2024” window) are not particularly revealing. But HBO’s wildly successful Game of Thrones prequel isn’t just any typical show without a release date. To the untrained eye, there might not be a lot of plot to latch onto in this 90 seconds. George R.R. Martin may not be cranking out the novels, but his blog is thriving.
In a recent entry, the Game of Thrones mastermind commented on a Vanity Fair roundup of what that publication deemed “25 Perfect TV Episodes from the Last 25 Years.” Martin was on the list for his self-penned GoT episode, Blackwater.
“I have never claimed to be perfect… but if the good folks at Vanity Fair want to say so, who I am to argue?,” he wrote on the blog.
“Of course, they are not actually saying I am perfect. They are talking about Blackwater, one of the episodes I wrote for Game Of Thrones. (I scripted four. And yes, Blackwater is my own favorite of those, although I thought The Lion and the Rose turned out very well too, and I have a soft spot for that one).”
Martin admitted he hasn’t seen every TV episode on the Vanity Fair list.

In the eyes of George R.R. Martin, HBO’s “Six Feet Under” sits atop the Iron Throne of television finales.
After Vanity Fair published an article titled “25 Perfect TV Episodes From the Last 25 Years,” which included the Martin-written “Blackwater” from “Game of Thrones,” the “Song of Ice and Fire” author took to his Not a Blog website to weigh in on some of his favorite episodes of television.
“If I had to pick one episode that was even more perfect than all the others on the list… it would have to be the final episode of ‘Six Feet Under,'” Martin wrote on his blog. “I liked that series well enough, though I cannot say I loved it as much as I loved ‘Rome’ or ‘Deadwood’ or ‘Fargo’ or a few other shows missing from the list, but that last episode was far and away the best finale in the entire history of television,...

House of the Dragon fans received some bittersweet news recently. According to an exclusive report from Deadline, the already-confirmed House of the Dragon season 2 will likely feature 8 episodes rather than the Game of Thrones-standard 10.
An HBO spokesperson stressed to Deadline that the trimming of two episodes was “story-driven” and didn’t have anything to do with budget cutting. Now, under normal circumstances, a network representative desperately clarifying to a publication that a decision had nothing to do with budget would naturally make one assume it had everything to do with budget – particularly with the current context at HBO parent company Warner Bros. Discovery where production woes and unfortunate cancellations appear to be the norm.
In the case of House of the Dragon, however, there’s another bit of information tucked into the report that suggests that the eight-episode order comes with the blessing of showrunner Ryan Condal. (This is...

The cost-of-living crisis is wreaking havoc and the global TV industry is not immune.
As hundreds of buyers and sellers descend upon the UK for the annual London TV Screenings, distributors are looking closely at how they can adapt their catalogs and work in tandem with clients in the face of the incoming recession.
However, the task is not an easy one. Numerous distributors tell Deadline they have had contingencies in place for a long time to deal with such a macro fiscal event – contingencies that came to the fore during Covid-19. These are frequently being shaped by the world around them, not just by recession, they say.
“The ongoing strategy we have and the way we approach the market is constantly evolving,” says Ruth Berry, ITV Studios’ Managing Director of Global Distribution, who was recently promoted to lead the outfit’s combined Distribution and Entertainment arms. “Thinking about these...

Distributed by ITV Studios, “Blackwater,” the new banner series from Apple Tree producer Piv Bernth – behind iconic Scandinavian series “The Killing,” “The Bridge” and “Borgen” – opens in premonitory mode with the camera panning away from a falcon to take in the Lobber River’s white water and churning slate grey currents as a supernatural horror-movie chant bleeds into the soundtrack.
The foreboding anticipates a double murder on the river’s banks and conveys a broader sense sluicing the series of the menace of nature itself – both the chilling woods around Blackwater, a village in mid-Sweden, and latent human brutality.
In 1973, on Midsummer’s Eve, Annie, a young in-love schoolteacher who has just arrived in the area, discovers the bodies of two murdered tourists on the banks of the river. Glimpsing a man running away from the crime scene, she will live in fear for the next 20 years, sleeping with a shotgun beside her bed.
