Oh dear!
craignewman200620 June 2010
Well what can i say...Er, how about terrible! obviously Harriet Thorpe has fallen on hard times after Life is sweet, and in all fairness she was the only recognisable character.Everything about this film screams straight to DVD and it shows.Zero character development, sloppy direction, awful script, need i go on? avoid like the mutants that mysteriously mutate within 10 minutes of a nuclear blast??!! they should of called it C.R.U.D. I'll award it 2 stars, mainly because its British (and god knows our film industry needs it) and also probably because it's the directors first effort (lord knows i hope it is) 28 days/weeks later this is not!

Almost Good (SPOILERS)
Carrigon29 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Lots of spoilers in this post! Okay, the movie starts out with a politician who gets a fax he wasn't supposed to get, warning of a nuclear bomb about to go off in London? Can't remember what part of the UK. Anyway, he grabs an aide who is supposed to be from the US, they convince the military people to let them get to the SNUB, which is sort of an underground bunker thing.

A small group of other people go there, too. Another politician's family and their friends. And once they get in there, a few more people working down there turn up. And then.....bang, there goes the nuclear bomb. It destroys the entire city and it looks very impressive.

So now we have a bunch of people in this bunker wondering if help will come. And this is where things get stupid.

They send a few soldiers outside to check on a radio tower. The nuclear radiation of that magnitude would probably fry anything that moved at that point. But they go out anyway, and end up getting killed by........whatever.

So most of the movie is like "There's something or someone out there" and the soldiers got killed.

And then it turns into, whatever killed them is crawling around the ventilation system.

Then we get a story about escaped prisoners nearby who helped build the place. So guess what, some of them survived the blast and here they are. But are they zombies? They are half burnt and crispy looking, they don't talk, but they just want to kill everyone with weapons or their bare hands. I don't think they're zombies and the explanation given is the radiation made them nuts.

There's a lot of killing and there's some fighting back.

There's also a very stupid side plot of the US aide woman going outside in the radiation to get some help. Guess what, she actually comes back with a helicopter and saves the surviving people at the very end. And that just wrecked the whole movie. It was too neat, too copped out.

I liked it till that ending. And come on, a helicopter, in that blast? When you see how bad the blast radiation is, trust me, the ending is just stupid. It looks like total inferno out there with zero visibility, fire, ash. There's just no way she could have brought help back, let alone survived even a few minutes out there.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. And there's not much gore till nearly the end. Watch it if you're really bored.

Low Budget, Poorly Acted, Terrible Script..
temporary_fault20 June 2010
Usual premise, bombs gonna go off, been left by terrorists... blah blah

Fair enough, obviously not much money involved in this production. And it looks like the film does the best it can. Character build up is left until we get in the bunker, which is within about 10 mins of the film starting. But to be honest there is no care for any of the characters. The government official is very annoying, as is the American woman. The film itself is only 1hr and 15mins but seems like it drags on. The film is let down by its poor acting, and the mutant zombie victims from the nuclear explosion are pretty lame, as is their make up. The die hard zombie fans out there may want to watch this just to say they have seen it, but to be honest i would rather watch a repeat of 28 days or weeks later.

Yawn

There's something to be said for any filmmaker committed enough to put their vision on film. The problem is that sometimes those visions suck. The British have often been able to do a lot with a little, especially in the horror genre. This is not one of those times.

S.N.U.B! does not need the exclamation point. Nothing that happens in this movie requires such punctuation. Really, it's pretty much one big (and tired) cliché. I'll excuse the bad digital special effects...this is a rather low budget film after all. But the poor story building, plot, and practical special effects are just bad. I mean...hell...just plain terrible. Nothing that happens here will be a surprise. Nothing will urge you to keep watching. In fact, even at 1 hour and 14 minutes it still feels too long. I feel bad for everyone whose name appears in the opening credits. After all, if you're going to make a low budget affair, why list everyone's name in the opening as if they would ever appear in anything ever again? Ditch this in favor of much better films from Great Britain. This is just a waste.

Absolutely Dreadful
Mieko7420 December 2010
This film does nothing for the British film industry and helps bang yet another nail in the coffin of an ailing industry. I wouldn't say the bad acting referred to in other reviews is the root cause of this poorly made film, it's more the terrible editing and lack of any directorial vision. The script itself is diabolical and it is shocking that this even raised any funding. If it were made for the estimated £400,000 then that's £399,999 too much! I've seen student films that have been better made on lower budgets.

I hope this doesn't impact too heavily on the careers on Gary Mavers, Claire Spence, Tom Cotcher or Joseph Millson who tried to perform with terrible lines.

As they say you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

"This is an exercise, isn't it sir?"

Warning: Spoilers
'S. N. U. B.!' definitely doesn't deserve the exclamation mark as it is a sluggish film that doesn't make much sense. Throughout the film I kept thinking that is quite silly and that is positively stupid. The editing doesn't help at making things clear either. The characters behave like no normal people would which makes the movie a chore to sit through. It is a low budget film so inevitably (though not necessarily) the special effects are underwhelming. You hardly see the mutated prisoners so they never become threatening or scary. As for the cast, the best actor was the goldfish in the bowl. Unfortunately the bowl was dropped and the cat ate it. Now that was horrible.

We're not trapped. We're safe
nogodnomasters9 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A group of people find themselves in a Secret Nuclear Underground Bunker when a 20 megaton bomb goes off. The film centers on their relationship and survival for the first hour, then the "fiction" aspect of science fiction enters the film.

The characters were not well constructed. "Cloverfield 10" puts this film to shame. The suitcase bomb was constructed as a dirty bomb, but somehow they got a 20 Megaton blast from it. From the commentary it appears director Jonathan Glendening is unaware there is a difference between the two. The film is supposed to be a 50's style sci-fi camp film, but I didn't see it. On the plus side they used an actual SNUB to film the production. It was at least neat to see the bunker. The movie action should have started at 30 minutes into the film instead at an hour, so near the end. This requires quick concise character building. Note: This is not a zombie film.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin!
dave-772-9568922 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I'm giving this movie ten out of ten not because I think it's the best film ever, but because I think it achieves exactly what it sets out to deliver and deserves some credit! I found the trailer for this film accidentally on YouTube and okay, it's obviously low budget, but as a fan of especially British indie horror movies thought I'd track down a copy and give it a go.

The effects are actually really good (though the zombie mutant things are a bit disappointing when they finally arrive). There's a lack of big scare moments but overall I just found the whole thing entertaining. It's tongue in cheek - in some places actually quite self referentially funny - and whilst very short, the pace is refreshing and kept my interest up.

No, the characters aren't well rounded but they do tick all the boxes and I cared enough to enjoy watching the nasty politician guy get his come-uppance (and the pretty girls running away from the radioactive mutants). And there's a subtle twist at the end as well.

It really depends what you want out of a film... if you want high brow art or a big budget studio picture, avoid this film, but if like me you enjoy a refreshing change of pace and an entertaining little British action flick, this is actually really quite good.

Entertaining UK Indie Post-Apocalyptic Horror
rossboyask-117 January 2022
A collection of talented UK actors are trapped in an underground bunker when the unthinkable happens and London is hit by a nuclear strike. But then the survivors start getting killed off and it's clear that the bunker isn't as secure as they thought. A fun, occasionally gory action horror.
