Just a great movie!!

Warning: Spoilers
*Warning:Opinions and mild Spoilers ahead!!*

This is my opinion based review on "Meggy's Destiny: An SMG4 Movie"

This movie is all levels of great. The animation is great, the story is great, the action is great, the drama is great and the music is great. The movie has a real sense of charm and child like wonder that makes you feel like you are watching a movie that secretly has a deep and meaningful moral that you never notice at first (in a good way :3) The story especially has a wonderful underground moral of acceptance, denial, anger, fear, anxiety, loss and even a hint of racism in there. (I do have some few grips with the movie, but I don't want to list them here cause I only wanna give my positivity about this movie. And me saying them makes me feel like I'm a critic or a supervisor. Which I'm not, I'm just a fan :3) We are looking at a wonderful team of talented animators, writers, directors and producers putting their heart and soul onto a project that to me wraps Meggys and Destis story arc with a greatly made bow.

A true masterpiece

Warning: Spoilers
This short movie is one of the best short movies out there... It has an amazing storyline that would be continued from a small series of videos Something that started as a joke, turned into an emotional, and truly wonderful, movie. It's something that I find wonderful to watch every time, over, and over, and to get emotional. The sad parts, the happy parts, they all come together, and it's a rewatch-worthy film! Something truly wonderful and worth rewatching over and over again. I can't get over with the ending. Thanks Desti, and thank you, SMG4, for the amazing movie

meggy is a good character ... but ..

Well, we have Meggy's character development, but given that Smg4 uses the same format as her episodes, this movie loses "specialty" for what it wants to do with Meggy and her development. Even so it is very enjoyable and it is nice to see how a character that I like develops in a drama

Greatest of All

Warning: Spoilers
This shows how powerful friendship is and I enjoyed watching it. I wondered a few times who was cutting onions in my face, but it was overall a pretty funny movie. Graphics are the greatest and contains some of Meggy's introduction and recent times to the series. As Mario once said, "Mario isn't very good at expressing himself. In fact he isn't very good at anything at all. But one thing's for sure, Mario will always have your back. No matter what."

Absolutely mindblowing! This channel has come so far!
elijahbutler-401199 March 2020
Meggy's Destiny follows Meggy, Mario, Luigi and Tari in the Splatsquad team in the final Splatfest ever and the most important one, because Meggy has made a promise to win the splatfest for the death of her rival, Desti. As a person who has been a part of this channel since 2014, SMG4 has always made me laugh, cry and put a gigantic smile on my face and it is currently my favorite channel on the internet. Meggy's Destiny is by far the best thing Luke and Kevin have made on this entire channel. This film is so action packed, fast moving and extremely emotional. If you don't at least shed a tear in the ending of this movie, you don't have a soul. I've been a part this channel for a while, so I've already had a big connection with all of the characters, Mario, Luigi, SMG4, Fishy Boopkins, Meggy, Bob, Saiko, Axol etc. I even have a wide connection with side SMG4 characters, SMG3, Yoshi, Enzo, Wario, Waluigi etc. But aside from everything else, I absolutely LOVED Meggy's Destiny! This film was so edge grabbing and extremely fun to see Meggy reach for her dream with the help of the cast members. Meggy's Destiny helped give SMG4 a brighter name on YouTube and it's definitely one of the better YT channels for modern YouTube audiences. Highly recommend Meggy's Destiny!

Just... wow. I should've written this sooner, but this movie changed my life. I don't know SMG4 did, but he did! It nearly made me cry. I hope he makes more movies!

I hoped this could be better Warning: Spoilers
"SMG4 Movie: Meggy's Destiny" is an Australian short film that was released pretty much exactly three months ago and since then it has scored no less then three million Youtube views, so a huge success for sure. The director is Luke Lerdwichagul, who is still really really young and already far more prolific than you could expect given his age. I'm curious what the future brings for him. Looking at the crew here (the writers), it seems this was a bit of a family affair too. Still I must say that while I don't think this is a failure here, I also cannot really share the praise. Part of it is subjective, part of it objective. First of all, I believe that the character of Maggy Spletzer is not really interesting enough for being at the center of a film, at least not the way she was depicted here. This has partially to do with the Splatfest idea not being too interesting or good enough to have it at the center of the film, but also I felt that emotionally the film took itself too seriously at times. And also for me specifically that I had no idea who this Meggy even is. I have not come across her in any video games, so she must be in some of the newer I guess. The video game reference is of course obvious not only because of the soundtrack, but because of Mario and Luigi being crucial characters here as well. It was alright. i do think it is a bit difficult to make movies about them and more experienced filmmakers than Lerdwichagul have not succeeded, but here it wasn't exactly a revelation either. I personally must also say that i found the voices fairly annoying eventually. The idea with giving us subtitles because we don't understand their video game language was not a bad one at all, but perhaps it got pretty dry after 15-20 minutes I'd say and with twice (or almost thrice) the running time, especially the squeaky voices got fairly annoying eventually. As for the voices in general, it felt a bit strange to me that perhaps the least human characters had the most human voices, but okay, I understand the ways in which they used and picked the voices here were closely connected to the video games the characters stem from and what they sound like in those, so I cannot really criticize them too much. The graphics I did not mind too much. I've seen worse and it fits the occasion all in all. The most important thing is that the characters are easy to identify and with that they succeeded. Finally, maybe my biggest complaint is the story. It did not seem smooth at all and this has certainly a bit to do with the style, but not exclusively I'd say. It is more of a collection of individual scenes and at the end there is of course the expected happy ending with the Splatfest, which was pretty much clear from the very start. But how they got there (maybe also too many characters for a film of this running time), felt very uninspired at times and I quickly lost interest. This feels especially disappointing because they had no less than three writers working on this relatively short movie. So my suggestion overall is that you should just play a nice Mario (and Luigi, always preferred him anyway, maybe because he looks more like me physically) video game and skip this little movie. With Lerdwichagul's age I am optimistic though that he can improve over the years. His effort here gets a thumbs-down from me nonetheless. Not recommended, even if admittedly it is never on failure territory.

THIS IS NOT MEGGY, NOT EVERY EMOTIONAL THING IS GOOD, THE MOST HYPOCRITICAL THING SMG4 HAS EVER MADE AND IS OVERRATED AS HELL IMO
tomibattias5 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm just gonna say that this is ONLY my opinion, I respect yours.

I resume the whole movie: Meggy; after alucinations with Desti's ghost, troubles with herself, and more; won the Splatfest, in a story full of clichés and with a bad and with an awful development new rival. That's it.

What's the biggest problem? That this is the last Splatfest. Why? Because they want, they didn't put any reason, they only said "This is the last Splatfest", which means "This is the last time Meggy will train in her entire life". Seriously?! Maybe you could say this is one of the worst decisions Luke and Kevin have ever made, specially if it has not any justification, but that is not Meggy's Destiny's fault. But before the last round of Splatfest, Meggy was again crying and didn't know how could she win as she passed the second round by almost nothing of difference, and she didn't feel sure as she was (and sadly she still is) a human. That's the emotional climax: Axol, after having watched Meggy was bad and angsty before in the movie, he told her some things and chilled her up, but the main frase he told her was the following one: "But you never stopped being Meggy".

(I'm really trying to calm down, but it's hard). SERIOUSLY?! ARE YOU REALLY TRYING TO MAKE US THINK SHE'S THE SAME, IN THE SAME MOVIE THAT SHE'S NEVER GONNA TRAIN ANYMORE IN HER ENTIRE LIFE? SERIOUSLY?!!!!!!!! HOW CAN YOU LUKE AND KEVIN BE SO HYPOCRITICAL?!!! Since she's a human, she is not the same! She's now a character who does absolutely nothing another character could not do! She's not cool or competitive anymore, she's now a flat and simple character, like the rest but much worse, with ultra forced humor imo, she gets angry or mindless for anything that happen, and she doesn't fight, she usually hides or runs away of problems instead of fighting as the inkling did (and when she fights, she's fighting things she should not, like in the episode "Food Wars". She does never fight (except in two episodes), compite in challenges nor train for Splatfest neither, seriously, we did never see she training from The Anime Arc. to here, and when Meggy's Destiny arrives, THAT'S THE LAST SPLATFEST WITHOUT A SINGLE REASON WHY? AND THEN THEY DO SAY THAT SHE'S THE SAME GIRL SHE WAS IN 2017? SERIOUSLY? SERIOUSLY?!!!!!!! And yeah, she won, she could make the promise she made to Desti, but that's all.

In my opinion, Meggy's Destiny is a criminally overrated sheet. Is an awful form of solving that promise. It did only solve it, it just made Meggy win Splatfest, but it ruined everything else. It got Meggy far from Splatfest and the worst thing is the hypocrisy of Luke and Kevin, they want to make you believe she's the same, in the same episode in which she's losing a very important part of her personality, and without any justification. Meggy's Destiny changed Meggy drastically, even more than she was, without any kind of justification, and it even wants to make you believe she's still the same with crappy and stupid emotional scenes. And does it work? Of course it does, the big majority of the modern SMG4 fans loved Meggy's Destiny, because they are easily surprised by ANYTHING done in SMG4, specially if it's done by a girl, specially if it's done by Human Meggy... and they fall in every emotional thing anyone does, so this is an excellent recipe for them to love it. It apparently affected everyone except for me, the only thing I can learn from this garbage is that not every emotional thing is automatically good. I hate Meggy's Destiny, it ruined Meggy much more than she already was, and without a single reason. It's proof that emotional things are not good just for being emotional. It wants to convince me that Meggy's still the same, when this right episode is showing that isn't true. SMG4 will never change, that's lame.

The authentic cinematic masterpeice
lachlanw-450372 August 2021
This movie is relevant to the current state of rising racial tensions in Inkopolis. I won't comment much more in-depth on that because I live in relative comfort in Australia but what I can grasp is that the world as a whole is moving closer to tribalism. With that being said, I gave this movie a perfect rating because it caused me to think. It had a strong impression on me, causing me to think about the meaning of the current state of what's happening in the world. Sure, I still have to get up & live my life but the truth is that we ALL have hurt someone or done worse but at the end of the day, it's realizing our mistakes & thinking about the effect it has on other people. I'm very aware that things arent that cut & dry but at the same time they really are. I enjoy a cheap piece of entertainment once in awhile to take my mind off things but this kind of movie is getting harder to come across & deserves recognition. I've seen others comments about this movie starting out slow & then ending with a bang or picking up....that's life. It welcomes you in & then spanks you. Last but not least, the acting in this movie is pretty damn good so in a nutshell, if your into movies that provoke emotion layered with a historically based script & actors performing with skill then this one is worth all of its 2 hours. Enjoy.

Couldve easily been 4 episodes. Lol Maybe an arc.

Meggy seems to be becoming an important character for some reason.. even getting a new show this year.. Is she really popular or something?

Extremely Generic, Annoying central lead
wyz-2558422 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was revealed, watched and then forgotten very quickly. Pretty much nothing is original or mind blowing about this film. It centers about the extremely irritating and overused Meggy who trie s to fulfil her promise to her old rival Desti to win the last Splatfest. The trouble was is that before this Desti never really appeared or had any meaningful presence in smg4 before this. That's why I didn't give a damn about her permanent death helped by the fact Meggy's like "Destis dead, I better avenge her" every 15 seconds. Meggy's entire character is extremely overused and tiring and you just know her plot armor will always make her win in the end. This kills literally every plot twist and left me begging for it to finish. However mario is still almost always his usual but now watered down self who every so often reminded me I was watching smg4 with his overall decent jokes. That bumps up the rating by one star. Also at this point the m in smg4 might as well stand for Meggy since her face is plastered onto literally everything nowadays.

Meggy didn't really deserve a movie and it was flawed at best. Most of the stuff in it felt forced. It isn't the worst movie ever, but it's forgettable.
