Laughable nonsense
deickemeyer22 November 2017
"The Elopement" is given as a sub-title to this offering, as though a series of Bumps and Willie pictures contemplated. "Bumps" and "Willie" are two comedy tramps and, in this number, they dress up in cast-away evening suits and call on a woman of fashion as a foreign count and his friend. The count proposes and the woman, accepting, stipulates that he elope with her and then demands that he carry her down a ladder. It is all what has been termed laughable nonsense. The audience laughed over it a good deal, and seemed to like it. - The Moving Picture World, October 4, 1913
