Good music but doesn't build around it as cleverly or with as much humor as I would have liked

A mouse is trying to get some sleep in his bed in the walls of the Zowie Café but the jukebox is insistent on playing and keeping him awake. When he tries to stop it himself he finds himself thrown into a glass of the rather potent Zowie Juice – a liquid he takes to very quickly but just as quickly he finds out the power of the spirits!

The majority of the animated short films nominated for an Oscar in the 15th Academy Awards were propaganda films (and indeed one of these won unsurprisingly) but this is one of the few that wasn't and this is just a regular cartoon. Like the only other non-propaganda nominee, this film is set to music but not classical but Latin rhythms. As such it has a good beat even if the content is less engaging. There is some physical humor which is nice but mostly the film is about the music and the movement of the characters as well as the fact that the mouse is very drunk. It is nicely animated and has amusing moments but generally I was surprised to find that this simple cartoon can claim to be an Oscar nominee.

The music and energy makes it quite fun but it is not as imaginative with it nor as funny as I would have liked it to have been, but still worth a look.
