This Gibbs being a father figure story is really bad, but overall this was a fun episode here. They didn't take itself too seriously and gave us an interesting case.

17 seasons in that is all we can hope for.

Leroy Jetro "mr Miyagi" Gibbs

In this episode those of us who enjoy the cool Gibbs qualities and the humour that follows will have a really good time.

This is season 17, but: Those who were once young are now more mature but "young" can also be a question of connections and what you do with your time. Gibbs shows us how it's done like a MacGyver who knows how to use what he has got at hand. Others will realise that peeking at something is not the same as really being into something. But there's a solution for that.

It's not an episode for those who get their buzzes from action but it is for those who like the humorous, likable (oooh, this word!), good natured and very differing group of people who make up the set of characters in NCIS-with Gibbs really at the centre (getting rare that).

There's one scene with Gibbs and the kid, Phineas, that could become a real Gibbs classic. I laughed and laughter is good and disarming, don't you think?

Laugh some and get ready for a feel-good-episode with some silent Gibbswisdom. No Gibbsrules though, I miss them, we'll have to make do with some light (?!) rulebreaking and this new younger older Gibbs that can ask for help. Can you imagine!?

Summary: It's a kind of (Leroy) Jethro "mr Miyagi" Gibbs episode!

See it, best on a connection that is not lagging, folks! *wink*

Not good

Warning: Spoilers
"Musical Chairs" was disappointing, but managed to be ok at best. "IRL" is easily one of the weakest episodes of this season. Might be on the same level as "Somebody Else's Shoes", even worse. It's sad for the writer Christopher Waild, who I am a fan of, because it is another generic story from him.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of the episode are great. "IRL" is well-directed, liked the music and the acting's fine.

. The story has a fun setup and there are times, where the subplot about Phineas and Gibbs is charming.

But...

. The mystery is not engaging and becomes awkward at times. I am not caring for the stuff happening with Phineas for the most part. The jokes do not land, the dialogue does not impress either- Christopher Waild has written much better narratives.

I have gathered that in this season, the writers seem to be going for a message in most episodes, but in this entry I did not get what they were trying to tell with this, at times absurd, story. The solution (Elmer being guilty) is something one sees coming from a mile away.

Overall, not good.

4/10 HK.
