When Cassie's condo deal falls through, she ends up moving in with Sonny; Dot's mother arrives for a visit and quickly gets on Dot's nerves.
This episode is a bit of a disappointment. The premise - Cassie being forced to move in with Sonny, should have resulted in a series classic, but It lacks the hilarious personality-clash comedy of Season 1's "The Odd Couple" where Vicki drove Cassie bananas as a temporary roommate. The earlier installment perfectly balanced the comedy and the sentiment, but this one is too light on the former and heavy on the latter.
Sonny's character here is shown more as lonely and sweet than sleazy. He's seen making plans to redecorate the bedroom in a feminine style for Cassie, and the two enjoy a few movie nights with popcorn. He even neglects to tell Cassie her condo's ready so she won't leave.
It is funny when Dot's mother (K Callan, "Cousin Liz" on an awesome ALL IN THE FAMILY episode) arrives and offers an outlandish excuse for being late - now we know where Dot gets it from.
Cassie wears an oversized blazer in the most hideous print you've ever seen. Ahh, the Eighties!
