So amazing, I'm usually not one to cry but this episode got to me.

Angela Bassett earned an Emmy for this episode

Without spoiling anything the last few minutes of this episode were incredibly moving, raw, and powerful. Ms. Bassett, without dialogue, brought Athena's early story to a heart wrenching, emotional close. Bravo, Ms. Bassett. Bravo.

Wow what a powerful episode, one of, if not my favorite episode to date. Shows the emotional burden someone can carry for such an extended period of time to such a traumatic experience, and the relief one must feel once there is proper closure. Had me in tears at the end. This is the best emotionally charged cop/firefighter duo show since Third Watch.

I just rewatched this episode and got hit with all of the emotions it had to offer.
You have this amazing character like Athena, bold and confident. A badass women. Facing an issue in her past where there's been a new lead in the case of who killed her first fiancé.
Athena confronting all of this head on and reliving the times she spent with her old fiancé, and doing so much work to find the killer was amazing to watch. And so were the flashbacks to how she first got into the police force.
All tied together with seeing such a strong character break down at the end of the episode in Bobby's arms.
(I cried very much too oof)
One of the best episodes I've seen of the show!

After watching this episode I was compelled to share my thoughts. Very powerful piece of viewing. Excellently written and brilliantly acted. Had me in tears at the end. This series continues to go from strength to strength.

Best episode for a long time.

This episode focuses on Angela Bassett and she is brilliant in it. The writing is excellent, the arc is superbly executed, and the emotions are wonderfully handled. A fine return to form for the series after a few of arcs in recent episodes have felt a bit clunky and were only carried by the charisma of the ensemble cast.
Slow episode, no action

Waited For This Episode A Long Time

I've been waiting for this episode since the first season and my god it's worth the wait to find out Athenas story. The last 5 minutes I spent crying, not just sobs, but full on howling. Angela Bassett stands tall in every episode but this one she is shining!

Tasha Smith...This Episode is EVERYTHING!

Warning: Spoilers
When I saw in the opening credits "Directed By Tasha Smith" I was really intrigued to watch this episode. The story was depicted so beautifully. The backstory really established the relationship between Athena & Emmett and you wanted as much as she did to find his killer. The complexity in the answer was delivered amazingly by the actors. The song choice in the closing screen had me in tears along with the Superb acting by Angela Bassett and Glenn Plummer. To be very honest 911 has never made me cry. Wonderful job directing this episode Tasha Smith and to all the actors involved in this episode!!! Kudos!!!

Why Athena joined the force, and the truth of why she married so late. Such raw emotion, such strong acting, and I couldn't stop crying watching them cry. Emmett wasn't forgotten, he lived on. I'm glad the criminal did good before he was turned in.
I Agree With Everyone...One of The Best Episodes So Far!!

I just finished this episode and I'm still in tears. This story about Athena becoming the person she is today and the trauma she went through is empowering and at the same time heart wrenching. I cried several times during the episode but mostly at the end. What a powerful hour of television!

Hate it

Warning: Spoilers
Am I the only one who hates Athena's self-righteous attitude? I can't stand that woman any more. Oh, right, she finally caught the murderer of her fiancé, a man who had made a mistake in the past and spent the next 30 years atoning for it by doing good work. She could have let sleeping dogs lie. But no, she feels entitled to retribution and has to ruin not just this man's life but also the lives of all who depend on him, without a thought to all the people he has helped. I hate and despise this woman more and more each episode. She's thinks so perfect she has the right to judge and condemn everyone - what if that drug addict who shot the cop was HER son?
Most powerful piece of TV this decade

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not one to write TV reviews, but this episode was breathtaking in every way, and in my opinion, the most powerful piece of TV I have watched this decade.
Such prolific music to bring the episode to a close, but the acting by Angela Bassett was Oscar worthy.
Every episode of this series is brilliant but Ryan Murphy took this to another level.
I don't think the content of this episode will be beaten any time soon.
Moving performance from Angela Bassett
marymchsal7 May 2020
I liked the show before this episode, however, after watching Angela Bassett emotional performance I loved the show. Angela Bassett is great actress, and I've watched her perform in other projects, but a simple 50 min tv drama was the last place I'd thought I see a performance so emotional and raw from a seasoned actress. Her performance is Emmy worthy!

I rarely ever leave reviews but I felt like this episode deserved one. I've been a fan since the show started but this episode might have been one of the best. It literally brought tears to my eyes and showed just how good of an actress Angela is. This episode showed just how important first responders are.
