A rat gives the most convincing performance.
BA_Harrison4 June 2017
With both her parents dead, and her older brother Rusty (Chris W. King) serving in the marines, Izzy (Leslie Andrews) is left to raise her younger brother Kevin (Charlie Trepany), with a little help from a family friend, biker Barney (John McGarr). In her spare time, Izzy enjoys torturing and killing anyone who gives her or Kevin a hard time.

While Sick Girl does its very best to be extreme and shocking, with Izzy urinating on a nun, killing children, harbouring incestuous desires, hacking off a bloke's todger, and raping a girl (via the use of a makeshift strap-on), the effect is seriously undermined by flat direction and some of the worst acting imaginable, with Leslie Andrews leading the way with a particularly dreadful central performance, her lines delivered in a monotonous drawl that robs even the most intense moments of their power to disturb.

It says a lot about how bad this film is that Fright Night actor turned gay porn star Stephen Geoffreys — who has a supporting role as Kevin's teacher Mr. Putski — subsequently returned to the world of man-on-man XXX movies (with Three Dicks Are Better Than One 3). He probably found it less embarrassing

Sick Girl
Scarecrow-8824 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Izzy(Leslie Andrews) is VERY protective of her brother. In fact, Izzy doesn't tolerate bullying of any kind. More than a tad unstable, Izzy has taken over for her older brother(stationed in Iraq)as guardian for Kevin(Charlie Trepany), the little brother who is a sweet, gentle-hearted kid with a kind soul. Izzy is the opposite, cold and calculating, remorseless when it comes to hurting anyone who triggers her psychosis. Izzy's love for her older brother, Rusty(Chris W King; who had to become caregiver and father for the three of them after their parents' deaths)borders on incestuous(in actuality, she kisses Rusty and considers him the "father" and her the "mother" of their family which creeps him out enough that once he goes to Iraq he doesn't communicate with them for over a year while away). We do learn towards the very end of the film that there's ultimately a reason for Izzy's psychotic break as it pertains to Rusty. The bottom line is that Izzy lacks empathy for anyone other than Rusty and even that is a delusion she has cooked up in her mind, that he will return to her someday and they will become a happy family. The truth is that Rusty had a love in his life and this woman is subject to Izzy's wrath because she stands in the way of some illusion..hell, Izzy even sleeps with Rusty's picture right next to her! There's a vacuous expression in both her demeanor and voice in regards to her treatment of others, particularly those she has kidnapped, holding them prisoner in a barn near her home. It's a dirty little secret Izzy keeps hidden from Kevin and his substitute father figure and best friend, Barney(John McGarr), a pal of Rusty and their father's. Barney is the sanity Kevin so desperately needs. Izzy is clueless as how to live a normal life without destroying most of those she comes in contact with. Whether its a young man and woman she tortures(the former through a castration, the latter via anal rape with a wooden spike dildo), or the bullies in Kevin's class, Izzy has no qualms causing each and every one of them pain and suffering, without any sense of right or wrong. Izzy is essentially a psychopath without a moral compass to dictate rational behavior. Which is why by the end, Izzy has no one and will forever be alone and without any sort of support. Her cruelty towards the kid bullies is eye-opening in its sadism, having the leader of the group, Tommy, to murder his cohorts(which he does, he thinks, to save his own hide). What Izzy does to Tommy is even worse, using a shovel to knock him unconscious, allowing a starving rat to gnaw on the kid's face! There's no limit as to the lengths Izzy will go which is kind of the point..Barney and Kevin haven't the foggiest notion just how depraved Izzy is until they see it with their own eyes, the result quite tragic. Stephen Geoffreys has a small role as Kevin's teacher, the owner of a rat that Tommy stole to starve.

Torture porn that is torture to watch.
Greenzombidog21 August 2016
I watched this movie about three years ago. I'd heard a great deal about how nasty and shocking it was. The torture scenes in the barn near the end are quite brutal. But the thing that I remember most about this film is how annoying the lead actress's voice was. You spend the majority of this movie with this character and she is painful to listen to. Not only because of her delivery but because of the actual direlogue itself. I couldn't root for the character because she was so annoying and skanky.

If the most memorable thing about a movie is how annoying the leads voice is, it doesn't bode well for the film. I'd avoid this film.

The Muffintop Massacre
ElijahCSkuggs15 October 2011
Oh, Sick Girl. How sick you are. Ya got your kicks peeing on nuns, lopping off weiners, and kissing your brother. You actually sound like a pretty cool chick, it's such a shame you're monotone and you have a dumpy butt.

2007's Sick Girl, created by all around blowhard Eben Whatshisname, focuses on the small-town life of a girl named Izzy, who is forced to become head of her household when her brother ships off to the Marines. Things sour from there on out, and Izzy's already shaky disposition crumbles into a pile of constant premenstrual insanity. No one's safe anymore; not her flamboyant younger brother, nor their bike-riding bear of a neighbor. The blood flows, children die, and rats are fed and returned to the gay guy who did porn after being in Fright Night. You know the guy.

I'd like to say Sick Girl is a good time, but then again, I'd like to say I enjoy popping pimples along the under-carriage of my fanny. A little juicy, kinda painful, and totally unnecessary. This movie fails for a few reasons, namely its weak script and dodgy direction. If you enjoy drawn-out scenes of inept dialogue and really pointless scenes of gore, including a controversial moment where a severed member is forced onto a make-shift dildo, the less discriminating horror-hound may actually enjoy this sh!t show.

So throw on a wife-beater or two, break out the Christmas lights, and don't say I didn't warn ya. Sick Girl sucks.

WTF... I wasted 1 hour 18 minutes of my life!!!!!
bravolingus6 December 2009
I've seen some bad movies in my life but this one takes the cake. What a piece of garbage.

It's pretty sad when the best actors in a movie were a rat and a severed penis. At some points, it actually appeared they were reading their lines. You could walk in any walmart and randomly pick a better cast.

The acting wasn't the only short coming of this movie. The whole movie was relatively pointless and under developed. The best part was when it was over!

Do not waste your time watching it.

Absolutely Terrible
chrisinaltoona26 September 2009
Did Uwe Boll direct this? What a worthless piece of trash. The murder scenes were amateurish and predictable, and there is no story whatsoever. If it wasn't for the penis scene, I would of gave this a 1. It's hard to believe films like this even make it to script let alone DVD. I guess I can keep talking being I can't post this comment until I get 10 lines in. What else can I say? The Christina Ricci lookalike did a decent job of acting like a white trash psycho, but the writers and directer should be ashamed of this mess. Do they just let anybody direct nowadays? I have a 3 page script about the same subject that has a lot more potential than this entire film. If you're going make a revenge/slasher/gore kinda flick, either get some good fx guys or have a half-ass story.

That acting though...
kaaate0915 September 2014
Okay, I definitely agree that this movie was sort of disturbing in nature, mainly due to the fact that most of the cast/victims were so young. However, the twisted mind of the main character was the only reason I was even able to finish this movie in the first place. I was intrigued to see just how far she would go with her sadistic behavior...and she did go pretty far.

That being said, I am giving this movie a low rating because I could not get over how terrible the acting was. Specifically the main character, played by Leslie Andrews. It made the movie so off-putting for me. It was like watching a non-confident 14 year old perform in their first play at school. I will never say that a movie is not worth my time, but I would not recommend this one.

Dark, Twisted, Messed up, but god awful acting !!!
SpannersGerm66917 September 2014
Coming into Sick Girl , I was expecting something that would be truly depraved and have an interesting story on the side.

As far as depravity is concerned, this movie passed with flying colours. The main character really is what the title suggests! Some of the stuff she does will please any fan of extreme Horror. I was quite shocked with a few scenes, especially the depiction of sexual violence at the end! Not to forget the scene involving a school bully!

But, my god the acting!!! It was absolutely woeful! It killed the dark atmosphere that the film so desperately needed! Sure its a low budget film, but even for those standards, the acting was well below par!

It was so disappointing, because Sick Girl had the ingredients for a success, but unfortunately acting ability didn't want to be associated with this project!

Makes High Tension look like Confessions Of A Shopaholic
Tromafreak7 January 2010
Alright, let's see. An intriguing and original story. An awesome leading lady. An absolutely chilling score. Shocking, intense, gruesome, gory, vile, and scary as all hell. Yeah, that basically covers everything. I've finally found it. The Horror masterpiece of the decade. True Horror fans, I give you Sick Girl.

Izzy, for the most part, is a fairly reasonable, dare I say nice person. Izzy lives with, and takes care of her 9 year old brother, Kevin, while her older brother serves in Iraq. All we ever learn about the parents is that they're gone. You could say Izzy has a lot on her plate, having to raise a sibling, and all. Not to mention Izzy misses her older brother a little too much, if you catch my drift. A lot of people go through life, having no idea what to do with their stress. With others, it simply comes natural, whether it be sex or drugs, or what have you. But with Izzy, she just up and realized one day that life would be so much more fulfilling if she could only kidnap, torture, torture, torture, rape, castrate, and kill whoever she wanted, whenever she wanted. So, anyway, that's what Izzy's been up to. Little bro, on the other hand, Kevin's got his own problems. The local bullies have been giving the little fella a hard time. If you think Izzy is above torturing and killing small children... well, she's not, which is all that needs to be said about that.

I am in my late 20's, and I can honestly say that this is the first time a Horror movie has scared me since I was a little kid. Feeling that queasy, that shocked, and that impressed, all at once was not at all what I expected from a modern Horror movie. I just can't praise this dismal, graphic masterpiece enough. Besides being horrifying, original, and gory, another word also comes to mind. Interesting. As in, it's awfully interesting to observe how vulnerable someone who is already slightly disturbed, can be. All it could take is one disappointment, or tragedy, or even a bad day, for one to suddenly cross that line from "slightly disturbed" to "ferocious killing machine", with seemingly no chance of return. It happens. Even to big sisters. Comparing this pitch-black diamond to pseudo-indy garbage like High Tension or Hostel, would be insulting. If anything, Sick Girl should only be compared to the elite, such as Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, or Maniac. Sick Girl is a morbid little beauty, just waiting to be discovered, hopefully by someone who can appreciate real Horror when they see it. Lastly, I am totally counting on more from the refreshingly disturbing Leslie Andrews, who is ultimately what made this movie work so well. Now, that's what I call a scream queen!!

The heart of darkness is in small-town rural America
jmclennan31 August 2008
Let's cut to the chase. The creator-provided synopsis goes, "A girl who wants to protect her little brother, f*ck her older brother and torture everyone else out in the barn." Any questions? Well, while undeniably accurate, the film isn't quite as simplistic as this would suggest. Izzy (Andrews) is left to bring up her young brother (Trepany) after her older sibling heads off to Iraq with the Marines - both parents are absent, and the reasons for this are, interestingly, never made entirely clear, though we have some evidence for Izzy's involvement. The only one who helps out is Barney (McGarr) a biker who plays Santa Claus at the local hospital, but it's soon made clear that Izzy is entirely capable of fending for herself. Especially when a proto-thug at the local school decides to pick on her kid bro.

Izzy is an intriguing mix, a character somewhere between Juno and Dexter; to those she loves, she is fiercely loyal, yet anyone else had best not cross her, or the results will be horrific, in ways beyond your imagination - certainly, at least one sequence goes well beyond **our** imagination! I think it's her sheer cold-blooded approach that is the most chilling thing here, and Andrews is simply phenomenal in the role, possessing a calmness which is completely unnerving. Even when engaging in brutality of the most appalling sort, you suspect her heart-beat rarely goes above 85. She even takes time out to lecture small children on the evils of bullying, where her philosophy is, "There's nothing wrong with hurting things smaller than you - providing you also take on things bigger than you. Then size is irrelevant." Cold: very cold. If you want to peer into the abyss which is the very darkest corner of the human psyche, then this is low-budget cinema at its brilliant best. However, you should be aware that you might see things you will not easily forget.

Film Quality Aside, a Visual Slaughter
gavin694231 July 2009
Writer-director-producer Eben McGarr opens us up to the world of Izzy, where parents are dead, one brother is in the military and the other is just starting to grow up. What lengths would you go to in order to protect your family?

This film has been floating around film festivals and conventions for a while now... and I've had an interest, particularly after hearing about the cameo from Andy Signore ("The Janitor"). Now thanks to Synapse, we all have the chance to see it on DVD (though, for me, it helps to review films as a job).

The biggest criticism I can give of this film is the dreadful mixing on the sound. Much of the dialogue is too quiet and the sound effects and score are too loud. So, you end up not hearing what everyone says and getting blasted by the music. It's more than just a little frustrating. The plot is a bit convoluted at times, the CG is awful, and the acting is cheesy, but these negatives are forgivable.

What has gotten this film so much attention is the sheer nastiness in the violence. Kids forced to kill kids, sodomy, rape, dismemberment, suicide... not all of it is as gory as you might want, but much of it is more graphic and gory than you'd expect. I don't want to give away how extreme it gets, but let's just say if you want gore and violence, it gets more and more intense as the film goes along, and you will not be let down.

Get a copy of this from Synapse. Order it today. Do not hesitate. You could rent it, but seriously I think this might be one you want to keep on your shelf for just the right occasion.

Decent Low-Budget 'Shocker'...
EVOL66613 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Heard all the yap about how 'sick' and 'disturbing' this film is, so of course I had to see for myself. Oftentimes I'm utterly disappointed when I finally get around to watching these 'extreme' films-and every now and then I'm impressed. Though not a great film-SICK GIRL is definitely closer to the latter with me.

The story revolves around a young woman named Izzy, and her little brother. Their parents died (no mention in the film as to how...), and their older brother (who Izzy has an unhealthy fixation on...) is serving overseas in the Marines, leaving Izzy alone to raise the pre-teen brother, with a little help from a friendly neighbor. Izzy is obviously a bit (understatement) off mentally, and it's made very apparent that she has some major anger-issues, especially towards a guy that tried to pick her up hitch-hiking, a nun, a catholic school-girl, her older brother's girlfriend, and a group of kids who bully the younger brother. The 'action' of the film revolves mainly around Izzy's revenge on those that f! cked with her and her family...

First off, from a technical standpoint-SICK GIRL is not a great film. It's obviously low- budget, the acting is hit or miss at times, the actress who plays Izzy has an annoying voice (though despite this I still liked her in the role...), and there's some audio issues at times where I couldn't  make out the dialog real well. That said-I feel that the film succeeds as a low-budget indie 'shock'-film. The storyline is decent and the characters are developed enough that you have some sympathy for them. I usually can't stand child actors but I think the younger brother did a decent job. The friendly biker/neighbor did a decent job as well. And voice issue aside, I liked the lead actress. She did a solid enough job throughout most of the film as being a believable sociopath. I also found that the semi-twist end-scene made the case for Izzy being a psycho a bit stronger. The often mentioned 'disturbing' scenes are decent enough. The FX are obviously cheap, but the gags are effective enough if not anything ground-breaking. I doubt anyone who has watched a lot of 'extreme' cinema will find anything in this film all that 'shocking'-but I will admit that there's one particular scene that I can't say I've seen in a film before. Overall, a solid film if you aren't terribly hung-up on film-making technicalities-and I'm pretty sure that most fans of low-budget 'shockers' will be entertained. It's probably too 'rough' (both in terms of content and from a technical standpoint) for the casual horror-viewer. 7.5/10 (loses half a point for lack of nudity-a film like this needs some...)

Awesome
nogodnomasters17 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Izzy (Leslie Andrews) is F-upped. People who get in her way either get killed or worse, they end up in the barn. She loves her brothers, perhaps a little too much and the parents are presumed dead. Neighbor Barney (John McGarr) helps out.

The film pushes things to the edge. In this feature children are tortured and killed. A nun is urinated on. And people in general are tortured and killed with a graphic manhood removal scene. The arm breaking scene made me cringe.

Izzy is clearly psychotic. Her quiet mousey way is entertaining.

The extra features included a public service announcement that I loved. It was pretty funny. There is also some biographical material about Leslie Andrews who grew up taking bloody, dead photos of herself. Not for everyone film, just those with a sick sense of humor.

Guide: F-bomb. Fake male organ nudity. Brief butt nudity. Blood, violence, and gore.

It's a dumb movie but i like it
icefireterry3 January 2021
I'm easily entertained so give me a movie about a crazy killer sociopathic lady and I'm all in regardless of quality. the premise of a sociopath older sibling taking care of their younger sibling could of been done better but i like it.

Sick and twisted, and I absolutely loved it...
Indyrod26 September 2009
Oh boy, where to start with this one. This is absolutely one of the best and sickest movies I have seen for awhile, for a low-budget movie. It's about a rural family that the children, the oldest boy, youngest boy, and in the middle is Izzy, the sister that goes completely berserk after her oldest brother joins the military, are living since their Parents died. Izzy is a short gal, that was schooled by her brother in some martial arts, and turns into a killing machine. First off is a school bus, full of students and nuns, and Izzy kills them all and pisses on a Nun. Then she kidnaps a couple of boys that have been bullying her brother, by forcing the main bully to kill the other two. That boy and a couple end up tied up in the families barn, and that's where the movie goes to a different level of torture and one particular scene that completely blew me away for being so decadent and extremely shocking. "Sick Girl" is so over the top, with some of the most sadistic scenes I have ever seen, and delivers them with no remorse and in graphic detail. I have to admit, I was expecting this movie to be a cheapo, that was predictable but something I might like. It was way way beyond that, and for an old gorehound like me, I couldn't believe the extreme direction the movie takes. It sets up also for a sequel, that they absolutely have to make. Izzy is such an insane killing machine, that one movie is not enuff for this character. I kept looking for the teaser trailer scene of her blowing away a movie audience because they were annoying her, but that scene is not in the movie. It is however in the Special Features, and could be in a sequel very easily. I absolutely loved this extreme and graphic thriller, it shocked the hell out of me. There is plenty there for gorehounds too, I think the gorehound fans will like it, but far more that gore, the movie is just down right nasty. Nothing is held back, Izzy is a homicidal maniac, and I could not recommend this tasty little movie any higher. This is a must-see for anybody that has the same demented taste in movies as me.

Very sick indeed and hence quite good
Woodyanders12 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously messed-up young gal Izzy (a remarkably brave, fearless, and convincing performance by Leslie Andrews) isn't having an easy time of it: Both her parents are dead, her older brother Rusty is overseas fighting in Iraq, and she has to raise her younger brother Kevin (a sympathetic portrayal by Charlie Trepany) all by herself. Moreover, Izzy blows off steam not only by killing various people, but also by torturing several folks she has tied up in the barn right next to her house. After catching three bullies picking on Kevin in school, Izzy blows a gasket and embarks on a vicious rampage. Writer/director Eben McGarr certainly doesn't pull any punches with this extremely dark and disturbing portrait of one incredibly troubled, unstable, and dangerous female psycho: The no-holds-barred nasty and warped tone, plentiful graphic and unflinching gore (the scene with Izzy calmly cutting one poor guy's penis off is downright painful to watch), startling moments of shockingly sadistic violence, an inventively harsh rape set piece, and the nihilistic bummer ending all pack a savagely potent punch. Moreover, McGarr grounds the story and characters in a plausible workaday reality as well ass further spices things up with a wickedly funny sense of pitch-black gallows humor. John McGarr contributes an engaging turn as friendly and helpful neighbor Barney. Stephen Geoffreys (Evil Ed in "Fright Night") pops up in a neat small part as amiable elementary school teacher Mr. Putski. The rough cinematography by C.J. Roy and John Carreon gives the picture a gnarly bleached-out look. John Francis Conway's shivery score does the flesh-crawling trick. A totally twisted flick that supplies one hell of a deranged kick.

Main character nailed her roll
joshuathirteen12 June 2016
Others have said the acting was terrible, notable the titular character. I cannot disagree more about her. The portrayal of a psychopath was spot on. Seemingly normal and caring in ordinary life, but absolutely without empathy and totally ruthless when dealing with those who would hurt her family. it it is her portrayal which has stuck with me in the years since I've seen this, and is the reason I Recommend this film to others. The other characters may be lacking, I honestly don't even remember or care, as the central role is riveting. It makes the film. Watch this film. But do beware it is not for the faint of heart. There are some gory and disturbing scenes. She is a very sick individual like the title says.

Along with Run Lola Run, my joint favourite film
johnbuckworth14 July 2017
I'm giving this 10 out of 10 because:

(1) when I first saw this film I was utterly gob-smacked, in the same way that Hellraiser and Evil Dead gobsmacked me. Utterly unique.

(2) Leslie Andrews is simply phenomenal.

(3) There are some films I watch again, and some that I watch regularly, every couple of years. Run Lola Run and Sick Girl beat all the others hands down in terms of repeat viewing (Peter Jackson's Braindead is close 3rd). (Note: Run Lola Run is not a gore film, it's just perfect).

(4) I'm not going to give any spoilers, but this film does not shy away from showing children that their casual cruelty can occasionally have surprisingly disproportionate consequences (which is surely a healthy message for all our younger generation to absorb?).

(5) On the region 1 DVD, the extra features include Leslie Andrews' "Death by.." art project, where she photographs herself as victim of 'death by..' (e.g. death by washing machine, death by garden hose) - subversive and really funny photographs, I wish they were available as a book. Worth buying the DVD for if you can't stream this movie.
