One of the worst episodes I have ever seen
AdrenalinDragon22 September 2019
My god Doug Walker what the hell was the point of this so called "Review"? It was just you acting all dumb, self-indulgent and pretentious while singing awful musical piss takes on a beloved Rock Band with no substance or funny jokes at all. I basically got absolutely nothing about the actual bloody movie the whole time and was dumbfounded at how this garbage managed to hit 40 minutes long. Outside of one of the band members from Slipknot appearing, I literally got nothing out of watching this.

Also, why don't you upgrade your crappy video and audio equipment? It's been like a decade and you still make content that sounds and looks like something made by a teenager (He's clearly not poor!) and those special effects were dreadful, even by YouTube standards. I can only imagine how much more insulting and pathetic this video is to watch for people who are huge fans of Pink Floyd. Worst TV episode of 2019? If the Nostalgia Critic counts as a TV series on IMDb, it's most likely a yes!

Not Funny. Didn't Laugh
robinsonaustin-074906 October 2019
I hate to admit this, but I used to be a big fan of the Nostalgia Critic. Aside from the later Roger Ebert or Chris Stuckmann, Doug was one of my favorite movie reviewers. Then he ended the series to make Demo Reel, a pile of trash. As the Critic was the one that was providing traffic for Channel Awesome, Doug resurrected the Critic, and his videos...varied in quality. Of note was when he introduced other actors to make skits in his reviews. The skits were okay at best, padding out the video span at worst.

Then there was 2018 when the infamous Not So Awesome document was dropped revealing how Doug and the others poorly managed the anniversary specials by either denying cast members food or water, or firing those who failed to meet up on a Skype chat in their intended time. Worse, they covered for a sex offender whom they also threw memorial videos to when said offender committed suicide back in 2014. Suffice to say, several contributors left the site, and the site had since made poor apologies, or called the people mentioned in the document liars.

But that's all besides the point. Doug's worst review to me is unquestionably his review of the 1982 film Pink Floyd's The Wall based on the album of the same name. The Critic doesn't even bother to research the history behind the album such as by not realizing just how bad schooling was in Great Britain, and instead concludes that Pink was a whiny little rocker and compares the American school system to Great Britain's. The film delves into many of Pink Floyd's personal demons, which anyone would recognize with a minimum amount of research. Something that Doug Walker -- a movie critic -- seemingly forgot to do.

Nothing beneficial happens in the review which was forty hours long (and he had the gall to poke fun at the movie's runtime). Worse, that shows that the Critic didn't even try to make the animation amazing instead opting for MS Paint (like that bird representing "ego"). While he goes out of his way to call his review and album a "love letter," a majority of the lyrics blatantly take jabs at Floyd's songs to the point that it comes off as an insult. I know that he also hired another YouTuber to create CGI beasts. The problem is that the fantastical elements in the original film were there to symbolize events in Floyd's life. These CGI monstrosities have nothing to do with Doug in particular, and it would've made more sense if Doug instead used his own recurring characters.

And after 40 minutes of pointlessness, what does the Critic say to sum up his feelings of the movie? He said that it , while pretentious, was okay. Why did it need to take 40 minutes if you were just going to sum your opinion up as that? And how can we really know that it's what he seriously believed since he took several instances to take jabs at Floyd's music?

Overall, an incredibly bad review that misses the point and was largely unfunny.

this makes me sad
mentalheadphones24 September 2019
I used to be a Nostalgia Critic fan when I was a kid. I used to think that the sketches weren't so bad. When I was 13 my favorite review was Catwoman. These aren't even reviews anymore they're just SNL sketches. I know that's a cliche thing to say but that's only because it's true. And I don't like this happening I used to love the Nostalgia Critic. I still look up to the guy I admire him. But I can't keep doing this anymore.

Holy mackerel this is terrible, everything about this is done without any respect for the original material. The fact that Walker could call this a love letter to Pink Floyd is nothing short of an insult.

An embarrassment for everyone involved.
EarlyEJ4 November 2019
I'm sorry for everyone involved (except Doug). I especially feel bad for Fennah. The mockery he got for this was unwarranted. It wasn't his fault that his part made no since to outsiders. It was Doug's fault for not properly introducing him and his work.

Doug Walker fails to understand why people enjoyed his videos in the first place. He's not a movie maker, artist, musician, or even really a critic. He's good at making fun of movies. Stick to what you are/were good at Doug, and don't drag talented people down with you.

How the mighty have fallen
daytonapacecar10 November 2019
Congratulations, Walker and Michaud. You managed to lose the last few fans you still had after #ChangeTheChannel. I hope you're happy. If I could vote 0/10, I would happily do so. The "plot" is that there's no plot, and while some may claim that "it took effort", sometimes effort doesn't make a good product. This "review" completely misses the point of the original film, and makes Demo Reel look like pre-revival Nostalgia Critic.

In other words, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?

Worst review ever made.
calvind-42 September 2020
Already reeling from the Change the Channel protests, Doug Walker renders his reputation completely unrecoverable with this episode of the long-running Nostalgia Critic series. This is the story of a man who's love for movies was transformed into a cynical scam by paranoid copyright holders, until he was turned into a shadow of himself, having lost his friends, his personality, and any sense of credibility.

As you may be aware, YouTube's freedom of speech is under constant attack by a bunch of insecure Hollywood goons. So Doug had a better idea: gather up his crew to reenact scenes from the movie and work from there. The result is that it's all gotten very... impersonal. It became less about critique and more about just making parodies for parody's sake. The idea came to a head with this hideous, misguided, ill-thought-out, poorly-edited parody of a pinnacle of British pop culture.

For reference, Pink Floyd's The Wall deals with subjects like the needless deaths of World War II, the draconian education system of 1950s Britain, Thatcherism, and drug abuse, all causing a rock star to isolate himself from the world, building the titular Wall around him. Here, the Nostalgia Critic brushes all that under the rug and tacks it down to sheer pretentiousness. He himself says "Many saw it as too pretentious and full of itself," which is a thought that only a handful of people share.

Schools were abhorrently cruel to children at the time; Thatcher's Tories were abhorrently cruel to the common people at the time - and he makes a mockery of it all! Why else would someone say "LOL, so school sucks; grow a damn pair of balls"? Society has evolved from the days of corporal punishment in schools, but still man, have some respect for the people who had to suffer in those days!

From beginning to end, it's just PAINFUL to watch, and it baffles me that the show survived even this. If neglecting your own cast and crew doesn't kill your show, if this doesn't kill your show... what will?

Channel Awesome's The Wall
tdwest-6987514 June 2021
People always talk about how Doug Walker missed the point of Pink Floyd's The Wall, but I think they are the ones missing the point. This is not Pink Floyd's The Wall, this is Channel Awesome's The Wall: a deep, beautiful piece on how self-centered, emotionally stunted, morally bankrupt, and nostalgia-drunken Doug Walker is and how little he cares about the deeper message of anything because all he can see is the surface of what he "reviews."

Sorry
alvarogbg23 September 2019
Doug Walker, you re my idol, my icon I mean Im 13 and now a saw all the movies with another perspective thanks to you, you inspired my style of humor and the way I think of a movie, YOU´RE MY HERO!. But this week you made this "review" and...man, just man, i was very dissapointed, i don t think is awful but is your worst episode ever, I mean you have all this talented people but... you don t go to the direction of "Suicide Squad" or "It (2017)" or even for thye direction of "Mad Max: Fury Road" or "The Phantom of the opera", in step you go for the "Hocus Pocus" direction but even worst, at least that one has a plot this one doesn t, I mean all this work is the result of nothing, it doesn t need to exist.

Don´t get me wrong there some things that I liked, the editing is amazing, and the part of Feenah was visually amazing and the way that is edited the songs (Specially the one from the begining) is really good for a episode.

But good editing and visual effects doesn´t always mean better, this one hasn¨t had any plot, it´s just he and his friend do strange things random (like in the movie "That Darn Cat!", HELLO!) At least the "Hocus Pocus" review had a plot and one thing it´s do a parody and the other thing is called a "review" and the songs are very dissaponiting(Im Spanish so maybe when it had subtitles I´m going to forgive a little bit tahat appart or only I´m going to hate even more) and the FEENAH scene it doesn´t look that amazing how the trailer shows and it was just for a musical number out of nowhere and I only see you and your friends working hard for nothing, the only thing that you have get It´s that your episode has beeen rated in the worst of all of them with 50 votes in 4 days and a rating of 2,9.

CONCLUSSION: I said before that I m 13 and I remember that i meet him on youtube one day when I was 11 in a summer (and that summer i saw at least 5 episodes every day) and now you come whith this losing your time and effert, and here some of that effert It´s here, I don´t said that this episode is awful but I can said that is the worst episode that you ever have done and i will put you a 10 for high your rating in (like I do in the ones taht i though tat are infravalorateds) but in this one I´m going to said:

Sorry, it decerves that!

This review is actually awful. I don't usually say that a movie critic is wrong, because we're all allowed to have our own opinion.

But, Jesus Christ, Doug. Not only did you miss the point, you made a mockery of yourself, your friends, and everyone else you had involved in this.

No wonder everyone makes fun of you.

Something else is comfortably Dumb
sebaweirdo24 September 2019
Before talking about my feelings to the review itself, i would like to talk about my opinion of Pink Floyd´s The Wall. I like it, i won´t deny it has flaws and frankly there are better movies and i dare to say, it still needs a lot to be an actual "good" movie, but as a representation of the album, it´s a good attempt. Now, The critic´s review tries to recreate the film´s visuals and to be honest, it really looks interesting, it gives you the idea that they are going to criticize them while also doing them and showing why they work and why they dont work...Sadly it never goes beyond that, because instead of a review, we only get the most simple parody of the movie and worst of all...it´s completely in song. The Wall has so many elements to make fun of: The disconnection between animation and Liveaction, the acting, Bob Geldof´s singing, the editing, the repetition of stuff and the actual oscar bait song (When the tigers broke free instead of Goodvye Bluesky), etc. Instead we only get a bare bones attempt at making a recreation and an analysis, the only thing it has in it´s favor is that, just like the original movie, it has some nice and surreal visuals and the CGI is good. But, just like that, the main problem that this sequences have and the review in general is that this is made completely in song. Now, i feel like if instead of doing something stupid like adapting tons of song from an album and trying to fit them in a review, they should have gone for what they did for the miserables, where there is dialogue and then the songs explain it in a more visually interesting way. That and Doug´s singing voice is terrible, the only song he can pull out it´s Comfortably Numb, and that´s only Water´s part because when he tries to do Gilmour´s voice...well, its not that good...At least the instrumentals are kinda cool.

Why would you do something like this?
CloseToTheEdge197314 October 2019
I'm going to start off by saying that I hate internet critics, I find a lot of them quite annoying and pretentious, but I never thought they would create something this bad. I could describe this mess but just watch it somewhere else (With adblock don't give this guy any money) but if you don't want to watch it (I don't blame you) here is a brief description, imagine a mentally unstable manchild yelling at you for 40 minutes about a film he doesn't like, it's that painful....... (English is not my first language)

(Also doug was never funny)

The point has been missed... by a hundred miles.
llamadog-109091 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For those who say this isn't bad... Did you even research the source material before coming to defend this bald devil?

There are so many errors made in this "review", for one, Doug seems to think Pink Floyd - The Wall is some edgy, boring, whiny, unsubtle and pretentious, yet pretty film.

And what does he do to review it? He makes an unfunny, amateurish, frustrating, pretentious parody of it.

A parody should be made out of love for the original, and yes, he does claim this review to be a love letter half-way into the video, but that point is defeated, as he constantly bashes the original for reasons which aren't even true, makes Doug look like a complete jerk, and/or, speaking without having done any research about the album or the film.

He doesn't seem to know the album came three years before the film, leading him to call 'Goodbye Blue Sky' Oscar bait, which is an impossibility, as songs performed live or released on any sort of media before production of a film is not eligible for an Oscar award.

He mocks the film for having an absurd runtime, even though the film is only an hour and thirty-five minutes, not that long for a movie. Yet, he comes in to waste our time with a forty-minute "review" and not even giving a clear answer, just saying "I liked it fine. A little pretentious, but... Good music and imagination." in the last minute of the video, before singing the SpongeBob theme (which has nothing to do with Pink Floyd -The Wall).

Though there are minor positives in this review, such as FENNAH's and his girlfriend's animations, but they don't last long, or have characters which aren't given proper introductions and are just thrown in as a random cameo.

The music sounds unfinished, (not surprising, considering the Walker brothers are known to rush their productions). They did hire YouTube musician, Rob Scallon to perform the music in the review, yet he doesn't utilise power chords in any of the tracks. The music sounds like it was made from a rough memory of the original, not missing certain riffs and verses from the original songs.

Corey Taylor barely does anything in this "review", only sitting in a sofa, not saying anything until the very end when he the The Critic "It's a review! That's literally the opposite of what that is!" completely defeating the point of this entire video. He doesn't even sing a sobg, aside from the SpongeBob theme, making his inclusion pointless to an already pointless review.

I wish there was a no star setting for this.
Payback10163 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
First off, basic stuff. He didn't do proper research into the movie. Neither it's history, nor even bothered to understand what the animated features were about let alone the live action features. While I am not gonna lie, The Wall isn't a perfect movie and even the people that worked on it such as Waters, Parker, Geldof and Scarfe hated it, they at least had more effort on making this movie than NC ever did on tearing it and it's album before it apart. Anyone who can do a quick google search can tell you that the Wall is all about War, Insanity, Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll and the sliding scale of anarchy and conformity. Pink's attempt at keeping his alleged oppressors out through his mental Wall, resulted in him becoming just as bad as he believed them to be. From abusive teachers to a cheating wife. How does Critic interpret this? "He's a whiny B**** who complains about the American School System." That review earned as many dislikes as it can allow and those who contributed to it including Fennah should be blacklisted.

A violent car wreck but you have to look.
penguinlink8 April 2020
An epic 40 minute Youtube review of an hour and 40 minute movie. Including, high-budget CG animation and a full cover album of one of the most legendary rock albums of all time.

Starring a bald, middle aged man who cannot sing, a rejected Halo 3 character and Corey Taylor

It's visual beauty is reminiscent of modern classics like Blade Runner 2049 or The Dark Knight Rises. Any screenshot of this masterpiece can be taken and framed upon a wall of a museum and I wouldn't bat an eye

The worst review of anything ever of all time
gamergunk4220 October 2022
I have to commend Nostalgia Critic for pissing off pretty much everyone with one of the most aimless, longwinded reviews of all time. Even with recent reviewers like Kotaku and Mr. Enter, while their reviews are garbage and feature points that don't make sense, at least they're not making 40 minute long skits featuring furry-inflation bait and Corey Taylor about how Turning Red was just OK.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why he made this, why it needed to be 40 minutes, why he needed to make an album out of this review, why he had to dress like a Nazi to make fun of Twitter nerds; it just sucks. Plain and simple.

Hey Doug.
Ford_Maverick7 July 2023
Hey Doug, The Wall is a great movie. You should try watching it sometime.

I was a huge fan till this video. Now I barely pay attention to Channel Awesome anymore. Hell, I even stuck around after To Boldly Flee, but this 'review' was a bridge too far.

It says nothing about The Wall. It just displays a profound lack of understanding of the source material. I'm only half kidding about suggesting that you've never seen the movie. It's like, you got some of the visuals, but paid attention to nothing else but the music, and even then without listening to more than the chorus of each song and going on that alone.

And what the hell was that crap at the end? The last ten to fifteen minutes have NOTHING to do with The Wall, it's just a 3D animated hellscape with no substance.

The moment DW's ego collapsed in on itself
Karaokuma31 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It goes without saying that Doug Walker's ego had been inflating to dangerous proportions a LONG time before this video came out, but this was the moment it collapsed into a vortex from which even light couldn't escape.

Everything about this so-called "review" is awful, but the most awful of all is how completely tone-deaf DW's interpretation of The Wall is. He obviously did no research into how it was influenced by Roger Waters' loss of his father in WWII, the abusive school conditions in mid-20th century England, and the descent of England into fascistic Thatcherism. This was the moment where only die-hard, in-denial NC fans could deny that Walker's reach exceeded his grasp.

In a nutshell, all this video is is a fortysomething minute fanfiction by someone who has no interest in context, history, or actual intellectualism. I would say the soundtrack is like a low-grade Dollar Tree Weird Al parody, but frankly that's a hugei nsult to both Dollar Tree and Weird Al.

Avoid this one at all costs.

So-so
TheLastPersonStanding30 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Currently on YouTube, this episode has more dislikes than likes. While I'm someone who gave it a dislike, I don't think it's one of the worst YouTube videos I've ever seen. This episode seems to be a tribute (I'm not entirely sure) to the film "Pink Floyd: The Wall", which I enjoyed, although it's been a long time since I've seen it. I used to watch "The Nostalgia Critic" a lot, but I lost interest in the show. I watched this episode to see what all the fuss is about and... well, I didn't like it, but it's not godawful. It has parodies of songs from the film. For example, there's a parody of "Comfortably Numb" called "Comfortably Dumb". Hardy har har. The songs aren't funny and I wouldn't care to listen to them again, but I don't think they're atrocious. Doug Walker's singing voice isn't terrible.

This episode is admittedly somewhat amateurish and cheap looking. The animation in it ranges from being bad to OK. When it's trying to be horrifying, it does look kinda horrifying. I remember "Pink Floyd: The Wall" being weird and so is this episode, but the songs and the animation in the film are definitely better. Corey Taylor from the metal band Slipknot is in this episode and at the end, he performs a cover of the "SpongeBob SquarePants" theme with cast members. It has nothing to do with "Pink Floyd: The Wall" and, unfortunately, it's not that good of a cover, but at least it's short.

There's a bizarre commercial with Doug Walker for something called Honey. I don't really know what it is, but it's not actual honey that bees make. For some reason, Doug is really hyperactive in the commercial. I guess he's just trying to be funny, but he's not. It's weird watching him act like a crazy cartoon character without being funny. Also, the commercial goes on for too long.

Even though the show is called "The Nostalgia *Critic*", there doesn't seem to be much criticism of "Pink Floyd: The Wall". The Nostalgia Critic does say that he likes the film, but this episode is obviously different than other episodes where he sits in front of a camera and reviews a film. Again, I'm not quite sure if this episode is a tribute to "Pink Floyd: The Wall". Maybe it's a spoof? Maybe both? Well, unfortunately, it's not funny and entertaining. At times, it reminds me of this crappy low budget film called "The Amazing Bulk". Both that film and this episode have bad animation and actors who definitely look like they're in front of a green screen. "The Amazing Bulk" is actually funnier, but to be fair to this episode, some of its animation *is* better than that film.

The acting is OK, I guess. It's like other episodes of "The Nostalgia Critic" that I've seen. I don't watch this show much, anymore, so I don't know what other recent episodes are like. This one could've been a lot better... or maybe Doug Walker should have left "Pink Floyd: The Wall" alone.
