Well...

Warning: Spoilers
I can tell you this; this is the first time in any movie that I've ever seen a ghost rip off a man's privates while he's sitting on the toilet, then climb out of the toilet, and strangle him with the toilet seat.

Not a good horror film....
MovieGuy0117 November 2009
I thought that 13 Hours In A Warehouse was not a very good horror film. It was about five guys who are having an all night stay at an abandoned warehouse and former film studio, several bizarre occurrences quickly lead them to believe they are not alone. It was supposed to be a simple plan of keeping a hostage, there with them for the night. But a series of numbers begin to appear on the walls, things turn nasty as terror takes hold, the thieves are about to discover that they are being stalked from the shadows and that their chance of living to see daybreak are passing very fast. I thought that the camera movement in this film was very shaky, where i found hard to keep focused on the film. 3/10

So bad, it's good-all serious movie fans should view for laughs
landocolt4516 December 2008
I noticed this movie because I thought the cover was really cool looking. The first thing I thought was, is this going to be a Saw rip off (there's a saw blade shown on the cover). It wasn't, but it ripped off more movies than any of the Scary Movies. Unlike Scary Movie which was supposed to spoof other movies, this takes itself very seriously. I recommend watching this with a group of people as it will be more entertaining that way (I saw it in a group of 4).

It starts out with a group of guys planning to heist an art gallery and then meeting up at an abandoned warehouse. A woman is carjacked and brought to the warehouse. She is tied up while the crew apparently didn't rip off Reservoir Dogs enough as an imitation Steve Buscemi instead of talking about Madonna, talks about Robin Williams and what a genius he is. I can't make this up.

A series of numbers keeps appearing as well. Ghosts that look like a combination of The Ring, 13 Ghosts and Pulse characters appear.

I don't want to ruin anymore of this gem for you. We came up with this list of movies that were ripped off for this film: Reservoir Dogs,The Ring, 13 Ghosts, Pulse, Silence Of The Lambs, Hostel, The Blair Witch Project, Gothika, 8MM, Pulp Fiction and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There's probably more, but thats what I could come up with now.

Lets hope there's a 14 Hours In A Warehouse in the works................NOT!

Unredeemable
glbalive28 May 2010
A friend and I were quite bored yesterday evening, and with both of us being fans of low budget horror flicks, figured we would give this one a watch. If you are of like mind and in a similar situation, save yourself some mental anguish and remove this from your netflicks que. No really, open a new tab to your netflicks account and do it now. I cannot begin to understand the mental workings of those who have positively reviewed this film, nor would I want to. Were I to author an idiots guide on how to monumentally fail at film making, my readers would be directed to watch this film as a failsafe. Terrible acting? Check. Poor stages and lighting? Hell yes. Plot points stolen from classic horror films, mashed together willy-nilly, and vomited up in true Linda Blair fashion? You bet your as*. From the first line of poorly scripted and pathetically delivered dialog to the hackneyed attempt at a surprise ending, this film is a true lemon.

P.S.: For those of you unfortunate enough to have seen either "House of the Dead" or "Zombie Nation", just think of "13 Hours in a Warehouse" as an equivalently disastrous film possessed of a lower budget.

Worst F***** Movie Ever!!!
zmyerly15 January 2011
If I could rate this movie negative I would. The plot was horrible, and filled with random dialog scenes referencing nothing to the theme of the movie. The acting was below mediocre... I've seen better acting in a kindergarten Christmas play. And the special effects? They were probably made on a calculator. Each scene featured a maximum of two angles, and the quality seemed like it was filmed on a camera phone. Overall, the movie was pointless. They were so cheap that they couldn't even afford a college ruled notebook. If this was filmed in Minnesota, I don't think I ever want to visit. Everything was repetitive and dumber than poop.

Lame and disappointing Reservoir Dogs ripoff
MovieMaddis21 October 2008
Had high hopes for this movie after reading a couple of positive reviews but have to say this was a big let down. The plot was an obvious ripoff of Reservoir Dogs without the good acting and great storyline. I mean really, guys meet up in a warehouse after a heist and have a conflict...surprise this didn't get hit with a lawsuit.

So the story is that five men find themselves in a warehouse after meeting up after a heist. From there the story drags you along as one by one they meet their demise and a couple of resident ghosts along the way. The story had promise but took every amateurish turn it possible could and in the end simply had no bite to it. It then proceeded to copy movies like 13 Ghosts and Silence of the Lambs(nightvision scene) to a laughable extreme. The acting was just awful, the soundtrack nonexistent, and the set was about a barren and uninteresting as an empty shed. I mean would it kill them to put a few set pieces to draw attention away from the meathead performances.

The one plus was that the ghosts were creepy until they also started to talk and act. I appreciate this was likely made with a group of hopeful friends and worked on a low budget, but so did the movies it ripped off. Nothing better than a student film here and you can't help but think it could have matured into a much scarier and likable film in the hands of a better director and better performances from the bland cast. These guys should really find another line of work.

Suggest staying away, this one is a stinker.

Cheers, Maddis

Within the First Five Seconds...
bigdarvick13 April 2009
...you'll find out this this flick stinks bad. I knew I would be guaranteed of a flop, just by watching the previews. Apparently, these filmmakers (lol) were responsible for past epics of infantile freshman film-making 101. Whoever gave this movie decent reviews (and there were a few who praised it) must be someone involved in the making of this golden turkey, or someone who is a paid shill for the film company responsible for this completely amateurish attempt at ripping off Resevouir Dogs. I laughed out loud at some of the positive reviews--who are they fooling?

Endlessly spinning camera shots open up this "direct to DVD" mega bomb that accomplishes nothing except to cause nausea. Choppy, poorly miked sound, made it difficult to hear anything (not that there was much to listen to.) Would Dav (without an "e") Kaufman please refrain from ever, I mean ever, making another movie? Instead of me paying RedBox (those morons) a 1.07, I could have a lot more fun either burning my money, or just flushing down the toilet.

1 1/2 hours of torture watching 13 hours in a warehouse
cuevasf716 March 2009
Poster looked wicked sick. I always rent 3 movies on Tuesday. I snag 2 new releases then go for a B horror movie. Been doing that for a couple of years. I gotta around to watching 13 Hours yesterday. First few minutes started off good. You got criminals holed up in a warehouse that had a spooky past. Chill factor was right there. People get spooked when they visit places like abandoned mental hospitals for the insane or old mortuary places where dead people where.

Spooky past for this was a pretty cool idea. The warehouse used to be a kinky film studio where people got snuffed out. B movies always steal from bigger movies. 13 Hours mashed together Reservoir Dogs and 8MM.

13 Hours is a B horror movie that looks good with special effects. Not like a group of high school friends out with a video camera and flashlight trying to make a movie. Its gonna sound bad but it looks like a movie. Good as any Wes Craven or Rob Zombie movie. Where it slowly moved in to torture was how boring and bad the story came out. It was painful to watch. Cheap acting with even cheaper directing. Wes Craven or Rob Zombie would have made this a good movie. You could give whoever made this movie a million bucks and Wes Craven or Rob Zombie whatever they really spent. Guess who wins? My advice to the people who made 13 Hours is to give up. Stay away from 13 hours like a rotting corpse.

An often creepy modern haunted thriller
Shattered_Wake15 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
On an all-night watch over a robbery hostage in an abandoned warehouse of a former film studio, a group of thugs are terrorized by unknown forces. At the start, numbers randomly appear printed on the walls. Then, when the hostage makes her escape, the kidnappers begin to turn on another looking for a suspected rat. Eventually, amidst the fighting and fear, the gang discovers the terrible and sinister secret the film studio once held. . . and who the other residents of the warehouse might be. . .

Enticing cover art and an interesting synopsis have too often led me astray into the land of bad cinema. Before checking a single review or finding anything else about '13 Hours in a Warehouse,' I decided to give it a shot. After all, if they took the care and time to make a cover this desirable, I'd assume they did the same for their film (ignoring, you know, The Asylum productions and everything Ulli Lommel). And, when it comes down to it, I can't say I was disappointed in the least. While the film is inconsistent, constantly altering tone and mood to the point of seeming a bit muddled, the highest and lowest of the swings are the best parts of the film. The horror elements actually are scary and the comedy elements actually are funny. The writing's not too bad, though the dialogue between the thugs tries too hard to be Tarantino-ish (including a seemingly endless rant about Robin Williams for some reason), but it's entertaining enough where it isn't a complete put-off. The story is interesting and works pretty well. Also, the direction is above average from what is usually seen at this budget level. The acting, for the most part, is acceptable, but the actors do slip up and lose their flow every once in a while. There are some nuisance problems like the annoying lapses in realism that occur throughout. For example, why would what looks like thousands of dollars in expensive film equipment be left to collect dust in an abandoned warehouse? Also, if a man commits suicide in a place, wouldn't the police perhaps investigate as to why? Maybe watch some of the tapes that are sitting around to see if there was anything shady going on? It's stuff like that that can really ruin the enjoyment of a film, but I was able to suspend my disbelief enough to look past it for the most part. . . actually, that's how the entire film turned out for me: Suspended disbelief = Enjoyment, and this was an entertaining enough film.

Final verdict: 6/10. Not too shabby.

Bad on every level
tedthumb30 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have no idea where to begin because every part of the movie I watched was bad. It's rare when a movie doesn't have one good thing a viewer can say about it. I'm a fan of low budget movies that aren't from tinseltown. 13 Hours in a Warehouse only backs up peoples opinions on low budget movies that they are made by people that don''t know how to make a movie. Director Dav Kaufman's attempt to borrow a plot from Reservoir Dogs and make it a sorta horror movie did not work. Bad guys meet up in a warehouse with a kidnap victim. Said warehouse was a used to make twisted type snuff films. You can figure out what happens from there. I am 100% agreement with another reviewer that said Meisha Johnson stunk as the victim. Director Dav Kaufman for what ever reason took some kind of high ground by not following the B grade low budget horror formula. There has to be some kinda nudity. 13 Hours in a Warehouse tries to take itself to seriously. Don't waste time on this movie.

This is the way an indie suspense film should be made!!
gromero152352 November 2008
I watched this film last night, and I was quite impressed. It encompassed everything I would hope from a low-budget independent film, but always find myself disappointed time and again. This film gallantly strayed from the usual excessive blood and guts and T & A that some filmmakers use to make up for a nothing story line, and I applaud director Dav Kaufman for having the guts to break free from the routine and tired formula and present something not only suspenseful, but fresh and entertaining as well…especially on his debut film. That's a risk the majority of filmmakers are afraid to take, even seasoned ones, and it paid off rather well. I know from experience that this director has a career in front of him.

The relationships between the thieves I found both intriguing and believable. I can't help but to wonder how things would have turned out for them if the ghosts didn't intervene. The acting talents of the cast (who I assume on a low-budget film such as this were paid nothing) while certainly not Oscar worthy, but served their characters well. What was obvious was that they understood their characters enough to make us believe their motivations, their struggles, and their internal conflicts, or lack thereof as is the case with the older brother.

This film reminded me of the subtle Hitchcockian suspense films of the old days. It's not what you're shown that scares you, it's what you're led to believe might happen that does. But I also think that with today's more sophisticated and cynical audiences, this film may be placed in the "underappreciated" category.

I see some others have inaccurately compared this movie to the likes of Reservoir Dogs. Comparing the two is like comparing a Mercedes to a School Bus because they both have four tires and a windshield. By that rationale, every zombie movie is a rip-off of every other zombie movie, every vampire film, every football or baseball film, and so on.

If all you watch movies in this genre for is to be shocked by graphic and gory scenes which pose as a sacrifice for a good, solid story, and does nothing but insult your intelligence, then this is not the film for you. If you prefer a more sophisticated, keep-you-hooked suspense film with an intriguing story then I highly recommend this one! I look forward to more from this director.

how to make the movie of your dreams
boccaccio622 October 2008
Just imagine you and your friends, a bunch of cinema fans, have time to kill, and one comes out with the idea: let's make a zero budget movie. If you are in this mood this movie is an absolute must: you will get a lot of good hints and a (short) list of things to avoid. And dream to be as good a beginner as this Kaufman is. You will need a location: if it is good you can just write the script inside it, by night. An abandoned, gloomy, brownish, creepy warehouse would be perfect; you can have it for just a few beers. The genre, of course, horror/fantasy to avoid the traps of intimate dramas, or the costs action movies. With a wise script special effects can be very simple and at the same time so pertinent to their background to be unarguable (when you see them in this movie, just reflect how they are obtained and what's the relationship with the story). The movie has apparently no pretensions, the language is simple, the end may be imagined, the use of cinematographic archetypes abundant, citations range from Charlie Chaplin (a character features this across the whole movie, and, please don't think it's naive or stupid, on the contrary, it gives a special flavor) to the standard up-to-date gore. A partial theatrical approach also helps giving some structure, but in the whole, it is the location that keeps all together. There are nice ideas here and there that put salt in the soup, some scenes that need a bit of cleaning, the suspense is always alive. A film to look with critical eye to fully enjoy it. But if you are a lazy consumer and like the genre, it is worth the price anyway.

Warning: Spoilers
If you want to waste an hour and a half of your life then this is the film for YOU!!!

I'm a big horror fan and low budget films too but the acting, set and effects are simply awful. Avoid at all cost. SORRY As this is Dav Kaufman,s first direction maybe you could forgive him but i personally hope its his last. Meisha Johnson Who plays the "VICTIM" is simply dreadful and actually smiles when supposedly terrified. As for the rest of the cast, what can i say but 1.99 bargain bin would be a total rip off.

Please, if you want to keep your faith in the genre then keep away at all cost...

Perhaps the worst film of all time
gnick889 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
"13 Hours in a Warehouse" is probably the worst movie have ever seen. The story shines the most of any elements involved in the production, and it's easily one of the top 15 worst stories I've ever witnessed. If I had to rank every actor I've ever watched the 5 guys starring in this movie are probably the five worst. The most interesting part of the movie for me was seeing how these awful actors could continue to top each other. Literally every single line in the movie was spoken like it was being read directly off the lackluster and unabashedly stolen script, which attempts to emulate Tarantino every chance it gets. The problem with this is that Tarantino both had excellent actors and talked about interesting subjects in a fresh and witty way. Kaufman can do either. I have literally seen more wit and creativity from a Family Circus cartoon. I would venture as to say that the acting of this film alone makes it one of the ten worst of all time, it's just that bad. Sometimes while watching the movie I struggled to fathom how bad the acting is, I think it would have sounded more realistically if they were blatantly reading off scripts placed right in front of them.

The special effects are inexcusably terrible. People will say that because it's a low budget movie they should get a pass there, but these effects are on par with stuff seen in the 1940s, when even the best technology couldn't rival the worst technology of today's times. I would probably rate the realism of the ghosts somewhere above the original King Kong but below Wallace and Grommit.

Overall, this movie should be sought after and viewed by everyone with the means to do so. It is the single worst movie ever made, and therefore is an essential film for anyone who enjoys the subject.

Warning: Spoilers
well what can i say ? watched this last night, the external reviews made it sound really good!!!?? and thats where all the good stuff ends . the story was about the best thing and the idea was good, mostly let down by the acting or lack of , absolutely no budget at all . having said all that it was an Indy film and i don't like to rate them too low but if they had got rid of a couple of the "actors" and got some local acting school to lend them some people it may have bumped the rating up a bit ,the film tries very hard to entertain on the no budget it has clearly got, the makeup of the "spoiler" ghosts isn't all that bad a bit of a cheesy sfx on them though (budget again). so to summarise very low budget, bad acted, good idea and story spoilt! some cash and a remake would help

After a good start the film waders off and never really amounts to much, but its worth seeing late at night curled up on the couch
dbborroughs28 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
After a gallery robbery the crooks wait in a warehouse for the man who hired them to show up and pay them. The location was once used to make films of an unsettling nature. As the night wears on the ghosts of the past, a rat in the ranks and a hostage they grabbed all conspire to to dwindle the numbers of thieves. Okay caper horror film starts off good and then begins to wobble as logic comes and goes beginning with why do they kidnap the woman who's car they carjack? (Other than to get a woman into the mix.) Taken on its own terms its an okay little movie, unremarkable and somewhat forgettable, but haunted by the feeling that the film should have been better. As it stands now its something I'd wait to stumble over on cable.

Warning: Spoilers
Another challenge for me to write 10 lines for this crappy horror film. The poster design is just great, really really great for this film. I mean, what's more except "don't see it" to tell you guys? The only thing that horrible is the storyline, well... there's hardly any story at all.

Certain guys meet up in a warehouse for some sorta crime, where happen it was used to film sicko killing video. They are holding up a gal, so I was hoping just like most low cost horror film, there will be nudity scene, well there's none. Ghosts appear, killing ppl blah blah blah... and the ending, i will leave it to you if you are bored enough to go see this film. LOL.

Warning: Spoilers
Well, I was with my friends and we wanted to have a spooky night, so we went to the movies store and while we were searching I found this. I liked the cover so we choosed this and "Dorothy Mills" (Another crappy movie BTW) First of all, the budget is low, so low, I'm pretty sure the director paid the movie with his McDonalds part time salary. Don't say just because is an "indie movie" you can't expect a gr8 acting and effects, 'cuz is not true, the acting was horrible, it was creepier than the movie, the ghost were stupid, I don't know why a ghost from hell is going' to look like a broken TV screen and why the hell was always chewing a wood stick, Satan doesn't have some Tridents? Honestly, there's not a lot to say 'bout this movie, just don't make the same mistake I did watching' it, don't waste your time, your money, your energy and enthusiasm. I can say THE WORST MOVIE I'VE SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE (and I think it'll be 'till the day I die)

A very dark family secret.
michaelRokeefe16 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Directed and written by Dav Kaufman 13 HOURS IN A WAREHOUSE is a lot better than some reviewers express. It doesn't exactly lumber along, it just doesn't progress at a break neck speed. Five small-time crooks, including the Hancock brothers Randy(Chars Bonin)and Mike(Danny Salmen), pull off a heist and take refuge in a warehouse that once belonged to the brother's old man before his suicide. With a hostage(Meisha Johnson) in tow, the gang have time to kill. Its going to be a considerable wait until the next morning when they can unload the stolen art and collect their payoff. The warehouse once was used for shooting snuff films and porn by the brother's father. During the wait each becomes suspicious of each other and when strange noises are heard paranoia sets in. Plus it doesn't help that a strange set of numbers begin appearing on the walls. What in the hell is going on? A very dark family secret is revealed; and the night will become hard to survive.

Reservoir Dogs meets The Ring
Leofwine_draca4 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
13 HOURS IN A WAREHOUSE is a low budget indie thriller that looks like nothing more than a typical RESERVOIR DOGS at the outset. Before long, weird stuff starts to happen and the atmosphere gets ominous, which is when you realise you're watching a ghostly copy of THE RING rather than a straight thriller. It's the usual type of picture that suffers from dull dialogue scenes that serve to add little to the narrative and merely consist of a bunch of guys sitting around bored out of their brains while the director tries hard to build suspense but fails miserably. Some brief elements of found footage camera-work add little to the experience, but the bits involving the ghosts are quite effective and the FX aren't too shabby. The film's hilarious highlight is a crazy bathroom encounter which feels like a tribute to TRAINSPOTTING's most notorious scene.

13 Hours in a Warehouse-Great!
d6band2 November 2008
I was pleasantly surprised by "13 Hours in a Warehouse". Having seen many Indie films, where most jump from one scene to another,so quickly,it's hard to make scenes of it. The scripts are weak and acting usually is pretty bad. When I first saw the trailer for this film,I thought I must watch it,because it was big screen quality. I wasn't let down when I saw the film. I found it very well thought out, which is very different from most scary films like :Nightmare on Elm Street,Halloween,Jason, etc. movies that seemed to go know where, and only focus on how to just cut people up, and the villain gets more lives then we need to see. The "Oceans 11" feel, with characters being pretty witty and smart,Characters with problems with resolved resolutions not forgotten,The "Silence of the Lamb" feel that fit better with this movie, than it did with "Silence of the Lamb" did.Just when I wondered how it could end,it surprised me with a great thought out ending for once, which those are hard for most films to come by. I found myself never losing interest, while watching it. I am still trying to figure out how come this wasn't at AMC Theatre first, because it is better than many of the films I have recently spent $9.50 on. I much enjoyed the actor's. They knew their characters,I found them believable. My only suggestion. The sound tracks were a little to low. The good scenes, could have been even greater with louder sound tracks. I think a louder sound track, benefits the movie, artist or band. All can promote each other with these. I think bad language isn't needed so much either, when a film is already great. I find it cheapens it. Wow, my interest was kept without millions spent on special effects. What a concept. Other directors could learn from, Dav Kaufman. If this is Dav's, first film. I see another Steven Spielberg in the making. Thanks for the Entertainment, I much enjoyed it. A must See!

Nice little movie
blumdeluxe28 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"13 hours in a warehouse" is a movie I actually had a lot of fun with. It tells us the story of a group of gangsters that has to kill some time in the middle of a coup and gets hunted down by the ghosts inhabiting an abandoned warehouse belonging to some of the group member's family.

While this is in general unquestionable a rather dull plot, the producers managed to make a film that comes along with believable dialogues, consequent characters and some nice side-plots. The cons of the movie always begin when the ghosts actually show up. As in most smaller productions, it would have suited the film better to let go of special effects, simply because good ones aren't realistic within the budget. While I thus doubt that many people will experience traumatizing horror through this movie, it is still a nice little piece that you can enjoy rather easily without getting bored.

All in all I can say that I think the title is a bit underrated here and if you don't mind unwillingly funny special effects, this could be worth a watch.

ENJOY YOUR DAY
nogodnomasters8 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why the film producers chose a lame soundtrack for the film while using a great one during the credit roll. The soundtrack as well as the quality of the low budget production gave it that super VHS feel. Now having said that, I did find the film enjoyable even if the twist (if you can call it that) was so obvious.

A gang of art thieves hold up in a warehouse awaiting the fence who will arrive in the morning. They also have an unplanned person (Meisha Johnson) with them who they have to tie up. The rat infested warehouse, we are told, was once used to make porno films. The number 32369 appears written on the wall and is the movie's other mystery. The guys opt to stay up all night drinking and listening to music...but then there is a loud noise...

There is some good interaction dialogue including a philosophical discussion on the genius of Robin Williams. Acting was acceptable. Decent ghost story with build-up.

F-bombs, no sex, nudity (male butt) sex talk.

Great Indie!!!
scottr19677 February 2009
I enjoyed this movie cause not just was it original but the acting and writing was great. Without giving away the whole plot I would recommend this movie for anyone liking a good heist/horror/mystery movie.

The writer had enough twists going to keep you guessing right up to the end. The writer/director Dave kaufman is someone to watch out for in the future. It is rear to see a movie that the characters are believable. Too many Hollywood movie are all about the formula and not the substance. This indie movie will surprise you. Hollywood has run out of ideas and the constant slew of remakes shows that. I will be waiting to see the next film from writer/director Dave kaufman.

Tarantino-cum-Oceans 11 . . . in a Haunted (Ware) House
rdfranciscritic22 January 2023
Am I a little late to the game reviewing a 15-year-old movie from a one-and-done writer, director, and producer named by Dav Kaufman? That's what you get when you fall down a Tubi rabbit hole. A few reviewers mentioned DVDs and video rentals, but in my hard digital travels, I've never seen 13 Hours in a Warehouse on the shelves -- not even in the dollar store or Big Lots cutout bins. Those are the bins where ALL direct-to-video indies go to go die -- especially ones on the Florida-based niche genre distributor Maverick Entertainment shingle -- as most of their catalog ends up in an "electronics aisle" discount outlet (I've picked up a couple of their 10-film packs).

So, if you dug a little on the film's backstory: this is a Minneapolis, Minnesota-made film. Dav backed this himself and was able to secure distribution with Maverick. Based on my past experiences of viewing Maverick product (there's a LOT of it on Tubi), 13 Hours is certainly an odd duck in that Maverick mostly deals in Latin and Urban product (action, drama and romance on top of it) -- so a horror film will pique your interest.

Anyway, to the movie.

While the Tarantinoeque comparison can't be avoid and are valid, I don't think this was the case of Kaufman setting out to ripoff Tarantino or write a "heist" picture. I'll take a guess he had free access to a warehouse and, using the old indie angle of writing around what locations are available to you, the wheels started turning. So, with a warehouse at his disposal, Reservoir Dogs, clicked. I also think (he's excellent) screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker's 8mm (1999) -- with it's snuff film angle (which takes place in dilapidated warehouses) -- clicked. I think Kevin Smith's Clerks leaked in, as well, as our dopey bandits -- using wood crates n' pieces -- cook up a hockey game, which gave me a good laugh (in a good way, as I got "the joke" of it). Same goes for the Ringu-in-toilet scene!

So, two brothers lead a six-man crew in an art gallery theft of a "McGuffin": turns out, they didn't steal a painting, but possibly a sculpture or cash, because all we ever see is a black duffel bag -- and never inside the bag (which takes us to the briefcase in Pulp Fiction). The crew holds up in a warehouse owned by the brothers' late father (dead by suicide?) who used it to produce adult films for the porn market. The twist: Dad was a serial killer who produced snuff films for the black market. Then, the J-Horroresque ghosts show up -- with an added TV-to-low-grade video flicker about them, which makes sense (and is a very cool effect) considering how the women met their deaths.

Back in the video '90s, I avoided the chains and hit the mom 'n pops where you could get all of the Shock-O-Rama SOVs, as well the SOV-mail order-only Cinematrix imprint works. That's sort of the "style" of movie we have here: it's dirty n' sleazy, but not as over-the-top as S-O-R's, and with a larger budget that's shot on film and not on video.

Seriously, 13 Hours isn't bad movie at all. It's above the fray in terms of cinematography and editing. The acting isn't ugh-enducing -- and Chars Bonin is a stand out. It's too bad he and Dav Kaufman, it seems, became discouraged, as neither has done anything of note, since. Its seems Bonin is sticking to screenwriting these days, Kaufman writes novels, while our lead damsel, played by Meisha Johnson, became a major-market TV newscaster.
