Well done!
avalon-763597 May 2020
Well done exposition for the redemption thread that runs throughout scripture. It is not an exhaustive commentary of the entire Bible, wasn't intended to be. It is an unadorned (though not plain) explanation of the finished work only Jesus Christ could accomplish with the invitation to the viewer to consider what this means in their life. It's like a primer to draw viewers into a deeper search of the reality that God the Father desired, Jesus Christ implemented and Holy Spirit reveals. Grace and Peace. And remember:And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. (Hebrews 9:27-28)

At first, I was annoyed with this couple the way they were talking, but after a while I found this mini series so beautiful. The scenery, everything about it. Now I find the couple adorable

This movie should be subtitled, "We hate Catholics"
mhampton-94 May 2020
It is sad that someone would take such a great opportunity to explain the life and purpose of Christ and intersperse it with voluminous anti-Catholic bigotry based on a misunderstand of Catholic Doctrine as well as lies and poor interpretation of Scripture. In addition to inserting opinion over actual Biblical text, it is presented as starting at Genesis and going through to the Crucifixion. BUT THEY SKIP EVERYTHING AFTER EXODUS and go straight to the New Testament. That's like 2,000 years of IMPORTANT history that God placed in His Bible. But, I guess, If you are going to inject your personal ideas, then forgetting the rest of God's word is acceptable. To be honest, though, I kept with them until the show about the birth of Jesus. After that, I could not take the distortions any longer. As I said, it is sad that they squander this great opportunity to present God's Word to a thirsty people.

Superb Overview of God's Plan of Redemption
mark60-39 August 2020
I was immediately drawn into this mini-series after beginning to watch. It is very well done and theologically very sound. The succinct narrative is packed with truth and delivered in a powerful way. The production and directing values are high as well. If you are Christian, Teletelstai will bless you. If you are not a Christian, watching this series will give you a firm and accurate rendering of Jesus Christ and his plan for your salvation.

The intention is good, the production terrible.

Short review: Well intended Evangelical Born Again Christian at an interpretation of the Scriptures, but brought down by terrible production values, over-the-top acting to the point of being absurd, and disconnected completely from even their core audiences.

Long review:

Tetelestai is, firstly, extremely difficult to watch, as it's only available on a single streaming platform (not even on the less-than-legal ones), and cost money to watch (about 15 dollars for the whole season in FHD, 1080p).

This limits the number of reviews, which as you can tell from the IMDB rating are strongly divided between '10' and '1'.

The 10's seems to be given by people who feel a bit frustrated that the Roman Catholic Church narrative is the generally understood manifestation of any given "Church". Evidently, that's a fallacy, as any armchair Theologian will tell you there are at least 35,000 Christian denominations, with 7+ main denominations to pick from (Presbyterian, Methodist, Lutheran, Anglican, Orthodox, Baptist, Coptic, Catholic, etc.)

The '1's come from groups that dislike the fact that Tetelestai is very much an Evangelical, Born Again take on the Scriptures, which is also known as "Sola Scriptura". I am myself of that denomination, so in theory, I'm the audience that would "enjoy" Tetelestai.

But the fact is, I did not enjoy it, at all. Unlike a series like "the Chosen", it does not attempt to fictionalize the New Testament. Instead, it is simply an explanation of what Evangelical Christianity is, and is executed by having 2 well intended, but completely over their heads actors reciting a script.

The way the actors recite the script is borderline comical: they point their fingers at the sky when they utter the word "God", push the palm of their hand towards the camera when something means "Rejection" and embrace their own chest when talking about "Love". For a second there, I thought they were attempting a weird deviation of sign language.

Quite frankly, as BA Evangelical Christian, I felt that they made my faith "look bad". Disconnected from reality, the modern world etc. The message of Christianity is to be "In the world but not OF this world" - they seem to have forgotten the first part of this sentence.

If you want to offer a "documentary" on NT BA SS ST Evangelical Christianity, I think it should be done with firstly, the only goal to praise God. And here they do it well. But it's over the top for any given audience, even their core demographics. We're bombarded with the aforementioned hand waving, and overdone pronunciation and elocution of words, giving the whole thing a "Cultish" vibe that has so long been a disservice to our Faith.

In conclusion, i cannot in good conscience recommend "Tetelestai". Yes the intention is good, and yes they were able to praise God and not themselves. But everything else it is supposed to be: a documentary, informational, dare I say "Entertaining", it fails at, and miserably so.

2* for the effort as my French teacher used to say.

Not an infomercial
bamcdonald-1880921 April 2020
When I started watching I thought I was going to find out that this was a commercial for a church, Bible sales or something similar. I kept waiting for some more devious plot line to emerge. The over zealous dialogue of the couple seemed kind of hokey and annoying. But I hung in there and realize it was a legitimate bible study! If you can get past the over zealous hokey dialogue, you will find a very well done program. Informative, and inspirational. Give it a go!

Tetelestai

We enjoyed watching this documentary over the course of a few weeks. The scenery, music and explanations of Scripture from the Old and New Testaments ties together the story of God's strong love as plan of redemption for His people.

Excellent short series.

This series is an excellent example of Christianity for all ages. If you're a new believer or a seasoned one like me, it's great. It reviews and presents the entirety of the Christian faith! The drama and scenery is very nice and you can believe you're right there, living the adventure with those ancient heroes of the faith! I would recommend this series to anyone. If you don't understand or believe the Bible, this will open your eyes and you can find God! If you listen with an open heart, you will meet Almighty God. I have seen other versions of dramatic Bible and none of those dig very deep into the subject, but this series does.
