do not watch if you have misophonia

I enjoyed the acting and story, but oh wow the sounds in this that they amplify for effect are grating on the misophonia.

Warning: Spoilers
"They WERE married for 22 years"?

WTF kind of closure is that? Did they get divorced?

Did one or both of them die?

My favourite Episode In The Series To Date....

No spoilers. Excellent acting throughout. Less dialogue in this episode. The company of actors here will keep your eyes glued to the screen. Kudos to the director & writers as well. Highly recommended.

The Applause

This is by far the most engaging episode in the series.

Mélanie Laurent absolutely shines in this show as does the rest of the company of actors.

Well written and beautifully executed. My personal favourite in the series.

Long and boring.

2.5 out of 5 stars.

Kind of a slow burn with this one. Love the cast with Melanie Laurent. And Zachary Quinto. A french girl going on a silent retreat and meets Jack. She day dreams and can barely hold her silence.

The episode is slow and boring. It is kind of a forgettable episode.

Terrific Episode

This would be my personal fave from this series. Most of the episodes had good stories but the actors (sometimes) didn't do the greatest job of selling their part. There were episodes that lacked cohesion and good direction.

Not with "The Silence". Brilliantly directed and acted. A little twist at the end was interesting as well.

An excellent episode to be sure.

Episode 4 not for me
cynmc2145 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have loved the previous 3 episodes and the last 3 episodes of season one. But season one episode four was irritating and awkward with the lack of dialogue. I know it is supposed to be silent but the way the silence is filmed I can't tell anything about the main character, except for the fact that she's at a silent retreat. And the fact that all the surrounding noises are loud and extremely irritating. Very disappointing episode it would've been a lot better if I could've at least had a backstory about the character, who was at the silent retreat, and why she chose to go to the silent retreat.

Truly magnetizing

This episode engaged my soul. The story is balancing humor and seriousness excellent. Again and again I was impressed by the creators not falling short by taking the easy way out in places where so many others would have and did so in the past. You are giving small glimpses of possible roads ahead for the story, you do want those glimpses to evolve and unfold. But when you are either withdrawn or surprised by something else, instead of feeling missed out it makes you even more absorbed. Brilliant acting by brilliant actors. In a series of great episodes this one is the star.

I feel like a jerk for hating it

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, despite the lovely ending (which is why I gave it a 2), I was so bored during this episode that I stopped watching the ENTIRE show altogether. I do love the fact that they fell in love over the silence but watching half an hour of just silence was not enough to keep me engaged. I kept getting distracted and looking at my phone, forgetting I was supposed to be paying attention. I respect that this was a different type of thing, and it looks like a lot of people love it, so I'm sure my one bad review and loss of viewership isn't going to hurt the show or appleTV, but if you're like me and get easily distracted... skip this episode and just move straight on to episode 5.

Perfectly Executed and Written
paula-2060728 March 2020
This had me roaring with laughter while watching. The episode begins a little slow, but the payoff is sublime. The writer clearly knew all about the pretentious aspect of meditation retreats and pin pointed them with surgical precision. It turns into a delightfully silent funny and refreshing episode within this series. As a meditation teacher, I am thrilled to have experienced pure joy watching it and grateful for not putting my students through such torture! Excellent.

Great concept and excellent acting
barbaraallen-679817 February 2020
This was quite possibly the most creative of all the episodes in Little America. I was riveted by the actors' performances. If you've ever experienced a silent retreat, you would recognize how quickly the world transforms once speaking stops. The slightest noise acquires significance. Primal instincts begin to surface, as this story tells it, with comic results. The actors had a rare opportunity to convey their characters without the use of dialogue for most of the story. This led to some of the most nuanced performances I've seen in a long time. Clearly I loved it.
