Hard to Watch...

...which is actually a rave review because I'm THAT invested in the characters/victims in this story.

What I'm finding annoying is the "Jodie Foster Voice" the character is trying to wear: Did the non-fictional Elizabeth actually DO that...?? Because it was annoying when Jodie Foster did it as a child to make herself sound hard or adult or...something. So that's grating my nerves a little bit. I love Jodie Foster, mind you.

Everyone is doing a spectacular job, as I mentioned: I'm very invested in the characters and my heart is shattered over Edmond's storyline. That was just brutal.

Took me this long to recognize Michael Ironside!!!

Episode 3: A masterpiece of an episode that got to my throat.

The level and quality of the acting, development, surrounding and relation(ship) nuances throughout the episode were just superb and Amy Winehouse's song "Back to Black" toward the end was just the cream of the cream making me dead still and in awe like being struck by the desert heat.

Apple store scene

There is one scene in this episode which is powerful and so striking. The scene is very short and is not integral to the arc of the story.

However, without giving away any spoilers, Elizabeth Holmes - played with a hypnotic presence by Amanda Seyfried - goes into an Apple store to get her iphone repaired.

Her interaction with a customer service assistant is something to behold.

The two characters are of a similar age - in their 20s - and seem to be from a similar background. However, the Elizabeth Holmes character deconstructs the vibrant customer service assistant and this reflects her inner turmoil, frustration, rage and drive in keeping her company - and her self image - afloat.

The actor who plays the customer services assistant - or 'genius' using Apple store terminology - plays her part to perfection. Before our eyes she questions her life without saying a word and also getting Elizabeth's iphone repaired at the same time!

The actor who plays the Apple employee deserves massive credit but she was not mentioned in the show's credits.

If you are that actor and you are reading this, you are an incredible talent - I believed your character as if I knew you. May I wish you enormous success in your career - we need your acting talent!

Episode Three - Green Juice

With the exception of her relationship with Naveen's character, I can't feel empathy for the protagonist, just as I can't root for her success or be sad for her failures.

But I believe that this is the intention of the series, right? What scares me are the comments that didn't think it was wrong for her to falsify the prototype.

Guys, she is playing with lives, regardless of whether those lives are numbered, but it is still inhumane and you scare me for thinking this is normal.

She is extremely bad character, manipulative and spoiled.

The parts that I believe they try to make comedy are so bad and so dull, and I can laugh easily, but this series can't.

Episode three of the first season of the Miniseries The Dropout watched on May 25, 2024.

Rating: 4/10.
